Agent Joe Devine (Alec Baldwin) has been assigned to cook up an elaborate scheme to take down infamous mob boss John Gotti. He assumes the role of a Hollywood producer and tells all the right lies as he enlists a stooge to help execute the sting. Unsuspecting "wannabe director" Steven Schatz (Matthew Broderick), who'd do just about everything to ge the chance to direct a "feature", falls hook, line, and sinker for the pitch, but what doesn't tell Schatz is that the movie will never be made. It's just a front for the investigation to take down the mob. Everything goes according to the plan... until Devine and the suits at the Bureau start enjoying their new lives as "Hollywood players" a bit too much.
