A film adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the original 1988 cult film. "Pleasantly plump" teenager Tracy Turnblad (Nicole Blonsky), her mother Edna (John Travolta), local African-American DJ Motormouth Maybelle (Queen Latifah) and her children Seaweed (Elijah Kelley) and Lil' Inez (Taylor Parks) intend to integrate 1962 Baltimore. Tracy soon becomes a council member of The Buddy Dean Show parody The Corny Collins Show and becomes the target of the snooty teen queen Amber Von Tussle (Brittany Snow) and her equally-snooty mother Velma (Michelle Pfeiffer), but soon Amber loses her popular-guy boyfriend Link Larkin (Zac Efron) to Tracy. Can Tracy and her friends integrate Baltimore?
