A fantastically gritty but entirely graceful cop drama that ranks as one of the finest I've seen in years. Unlike most b-movies that slip into this genre, this film contains absolutely brilliantly drawn characters brimming with conflict, different motivations, unique in every way, but also closely tied together. Co-writer and director Gavin O'Connor has a tremendous understanding of the dense dark material in this movie, and he does a beautiful job capturing each character's reaction to everything going on, and making sure that we as an audience member understand the heavy implication of everything that we see. That cast are all tactfully intense and at times overwhelmingly believable, in particular the continually surprising Colin Farrell. The visual style in Pride and Glory is also exceptional and worth noting, invoking a subtle but gorgeous colour palette that suits the sets, costumes, and tone of the movie perfectly. And the unusual size choices and framing with the handheld camera makes for a very unique take on somewhat of a familiar technique. This is a tragically overlooked film brimming with substance that may not have the age-old artistry of a movie like The Departed, but is a far more powerful, and truly exemplary cop drama.

Great cast, great potential kept your interest but just a warning its another one of those movies with an ending that leaves sooo much to be desired which in turn makes you feel like you wasted your time, it'd be nice if hollywood would just keep us happy and give the audience what they want... enough said.

Im surprised this movie got REALLY bad ratings... mind you it aint Oscar worthy or anything like that but it had action, mystery, suspense, and drama all into one and a great cast to boot... I enjoyed it and so will you.

I loved it, kinda long and not much "Get-Go" action but I found the ending to be refreshingly new.

I like cop movies, but can't help but think I've seen this one before. Not a whole lot of original material. Acting was OK, but certainly not great. Wait for video material.

Old worn out story about a corrupt Irish NY police dept family... poor acting and what the #@$! %&&& is Ed Norton doing there... he has far more talent than that!

Being a big fan of Edward Norton, I was harshly disappointed. The acting was hardly passable, the plot is predictable and, although 'corrupted police' scenes are well done to the most part, the movie is far too long for the point it is trying to convey. I was, however, positively surprised by Farrell's performance - if he sticks to playing bad cops, he can make a career out of his acting!

Great action, loved Ed Norton, but dark and thought-provoking. Still thinking about it a week later, so that is a good sign.

I really liked the story and Edward Norton was fantastic as always. The movie is way too long though and some parts were just boring and not necessary.

To be perfectly Frank: I was bored. I didn't think it was possible for Edward Norton to really and truly disappoint, but he most certainly did. I doubt that any actor could have made that screenplay work. I have never walked out of a theatre before, but after enduring one hour, I dreaded the idea that there was still another hour to go. I hereby award this film a 2, but only because of Mr. Voigt's mildly entertaining drunkenness.

It was a waste of money. Very very simple story line. Could have been solved in 1hr. Lame.

Entertaining but too Hollywood and doesn't give the viewer much credit to know the protocols and "common sense" (read: ending) so was a bit of a let-down. Very glad they didn't continue w/the one "scene" of innocent being mutilated I think I would have walked out. Entertaining nonetheless.

Could have done a lot better with this cast. Interesting story line. Did not really care for the ending.

Though not original, like many pointed out, this is a great movie. Police corruption, family ties, etc. may not be the newest themes around but they are still relevant. The cast is great and the mood is just palpable. I had a great time watching it.

Waaay too long! The camera was moving around way too much and too fast it got me dizzy! Poor filming - I kept seeing the mic above their heads atleast 10 times which was very distracting and took my focus from the movie.

This movie was horrible, I have never been so jealous of people walking out of a free preview before, this ranks up there with Get Carter. This film is poorly written, poorly directed and poorly acted. It rips off many good cop films as it goes through the motions, in it's paint by numbers format. There is nothing that surprises you in this film, it's predictable from start to finish even right up to the final climax that leaves you wishing you had a barf bag. Never before have I wished that I could go back in time and give myself a flat tire to avoid this piece of trash. In closing there is not one redeeming quality in this film.

Waaay too long. It has the makings of a better movie in there but it needs to be condensed. I kept thinking it was going to end but no, the story just kept plodding on. Shaving 30 minutes off it would considerably improve the impression this film leaves on you.

I was let down on this one. It could have been much better. The story had compelling themes: family, the good vs the corrupt, a who dunnit mystery, etc. I blame the disappointment on the bad editing. It's as if they liked to much of what they shot and didn't want to throw out and of the film when they should of gotten rid of at least 25min worth. The edgy shaky film style too was over done and became more annoying then truly stylistic. Try again guys!

A strong compelling start but degenerates to a cliche riddled fight-scene complete with an Irish jig playing in the background. What a disappointment.

Remember the Canadiens game when they lost 6-4 to Anaheim? Even if they managed to put 4 goals in, it was still a bad game. Same with this movie. Interesting story line, but very bad direction, pacing and editing. They tried to go for the 'epic' feel in terms of character development but failed completely.

Did anyone else notice the mic that was over the actors head about 75% of the movie Am I the only one that saw a mic floating around the entire movie over every actors head. How could an editor not see a mic just dangling around the entire movie its sad.

A disappointing outing for fans of Edward Norton, whose intelligence and verve usually enable breakthrough in an edgy role. Not here. This 'gritty' police melodrama is really more slimey; the ooze of corruption, poverty and the fetid stench of a claustrophobic family tree are barely relieved by the ho hum good-cop/ bad-cop plot. And the plot doesn't twist, it purges itself like a bloated bowel. Colin Farrell's sadistic selfishness provides a counterpoint to Norton and Jon Voight's confused integrity; he is a simpering, violent boil on the family's blue arse. The film's resolution is predictable and anti-heroic, be-lying the pretension of the title. No redemption here for a crew that should have been pensioned off years ago.

Same old cop story: loyalty of honesty. An age-old dilemma that has been done so many times. There are exciting moments, but I felt as if I had seen this story before. And if you have a hard time understanding the Bronx accent (dialect even), you'll miss a lot of the dialogue.

It's really good and well done: the story, the acting, the suspense, the ending... etc. I loved it so much cuz in the movie it shows the real face of the latinos and that they should NOT be proud of what they are or anything and to me Colin Farrell he was the hero in the movie!!

Boooring! Le film est long, c'est une histoire déjà vue, traitée de manière ancienne. On dirait un film en retard de 30 ans. Le seul point positif est la toute fin, la manière surprenante dont le cas du personnage de Farrell est réglé.

Edward Norton is very good as usual, but the movie could be more better, more involving (and with a less number of "f..."! I counted 283 of this bad words during the movie)
