After reading all the reviews, I went to this movie expecting very little. Perhaps as a result, I ended up being surprised. I found the movie both tender and erotic. Admittedly it was rare to find both tenderness and eroticism in the same scene -- but that's the whole point of the movie, about the difficult relationship for many people between romantic love and uninhibited sex ... and finally about the difficult relationship between men and women. I think what saved this movie from ennui was the intimate and vulnerable and sympathetic way in which the main character was portrayed -- that was the passionate glue that held the movie together and kept me caring. I found the movie also succeeded in conveying interesting, insightful and sometimes surprising ideas. And all of the scenes held my interest, including the slow and non-erotic ones. I forgot that I was watching actors and got involved in the story. In sum, I'm happy I took the time to see this movie.

Interesting experience... It's like you see an XXX movie on a huge screen with other idiots who have nothing to do instead of paying 8$ for the ticket. Basically it's not a piece of art, and it's not porn either, because there is too much philosophy there. But dicks are really big.

Anti-Romance. Too much of nothing.

If you think this is a good movie, well the only thing it will do is make you re-asses your relationship and wonder about the balance of power between men and women and how we all view our own sexuality. Its a movie with a lot of sex, different types of sex and the psychological predicaments that our attached to female sexuality exploration. The actor a good, but you feel sorry for all of them. If you heard of Rocco Zifredi and always wondered if his penis is really that big well here you will get a good peek at his organ. Wait for the video, or go on a free movie pass. Many people left during the last hour of this flick!

I'm certainly glad I didn't let the bad reviews from the moral majority (as recorded here) prevent me from seeing this movie. I went, expecting to be depressed, but also to find some consolation in the subject. I was pleasantly surprised. Unlike what another cinemamontreal reviewer had written, there *is* a lot of tenderness in this movie. The things that this woman is thinking at times are shocking, but I recognized them as the transient things you think when your focus shifts during the act of sex. She is in despair, reviled by the man she loves. He has deep problems having to do sanitation or control (e.g., completely white apartment) and self-image. She cannot bear to leave him, but she does the next best thing--adultery and submission (submission absolves you from guilt, you know). Even when she seems unhappy with the sexual circumstances at first, it uplifts her. There are some things that she tells these few men that are absolutely dead-on. You have never heard this perspective of sex from anyone from around here. Go with your mind wide open. And it's not pornographic, even if it is explicit.
