The first thing I ever thought after watching this movie was: I want my money back! The movie just tries to attract the attention of the audience by some fake glamour (like the scene when the girls dress up to go to the night club) and a very silly and childish story. The dialogues are extremely cheezy and artificial. The story is nothing but a silly cliche with very bad acting (except for the guy who plays the role of Sabah), poor cinematic techniques, amatourish framing and sound editing. The final scene (resolution of the whole story) also comes very sudden and stupidly when a very religious and protective brother sets all his beliefs aside for no reason at all?!! Overall it was just a box office movie to get some simple minds in the theatre and make money out of them. The movie is a very fake and untrue portrait of the muslim faith and their families.

This movie is a disgrace to all muslim women, I mean if you dressed Sabah in decent clothes instead of her being reveled and still wore the so called hijab she had on atleast would have been better. Her drinking, and going swimming in a swim suit, and having sexual intercourse and all that bull was just stupid, I mean if the guy became muslim I could totally say way to go sabah, atleast they would have gotten engaged or something. ISlam is portrayed very badily, atleast show some real facts.

Whilst what Islam is all about is quite distorted - I think this is purposely done to make it more palatable I. E the way the hijab is worn, how prayers was done etc. But otherwise oh what a beautiful yet simple love story. Arsinee is gorgeous and excellent so is Steven & the chemistry between the 2 is great. I think its about time we have more movies portraying Muslim people -their values and lifestyles. Well done.

Well it's not what islam stands for. This movie shows a western perspective to islam and muslim women, rather than more indepth and insightful study of islam as a way of life...

As a Muslim Arab woman living the West, I didn't see reality in the movie. The movie is told from a Western perspective that fails to understand the complexity of a thousands years tradition. I wished the producers have given themselves the chance to study the women and the culture they were trying to present rather than imposing a shallow judgemental view. Judging different cultures without trying to understand them is like judging another person. I am sure the movie will sell good though - with all the attractive women and men and the belly dancing that predominate its scenes.

I am a Muslim, and I rated this movie as five because I took the average of 10 and 1. This movie is 10, if you are looking to see an image of Islam as a religion that is made up of rigid rules that do not look to bring happiness to neither men nor women in society. This movie is a one if you wish to learn about what Islam really is. It is a one if you want to understand and learn about just how much Islam has value and reverence for women and human being in general. It is worth noting that while Islam is a code of ethics to be followed only by those who choose to follow it, it is the most growing religion in the world, with women being the number one reverts.

It was nice to see a male act as a normal human being, without it being overdone and fake like some of the American Actors (eg Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, etc. ) The movie was enjoyable to watch from beginning to end!

Excellent movie. Middle Eastern culture must be thrilled considering their reputation is horrible now in the world. They should celebrate this movie and celebrate diversity. Excellent film.

About time! About time! As an Arab woman, I believe what my culture needs most is diverse opinions and this film paints one beautifully. I wear my hijaab loose and love it. It represents more who I am then some strict fundamentalist point of view on Islam. Arsinee Khanjian was beautiful and so great and the love story was fabulous. We want more more more!! Great film.

I'm so glad finally someone came up with the idea of creating a movie like this. Sabah is excellent. You can really see what it is like to be a muslim woman in todays world and normally not a lot of them dare to do some stuff like sabah. I can watch this movie over and over again.

Well 1st of all muslim women dun wear hejab like that... and 2nd of all they r not deprived of everything as they showed... and 3rd of all the hejab can be very elegent and can look really good if u used the right clothes, I'm a muslim girl and I;m studying medicine ispeak english and a bit french and of course arabic, iam very educated and I'm in love with a gr8 person and my family knowz and wer gonna get married soon, it's such an insult to show to ppl that doesnt understand the muslim rules well that ruined stupid picture that does nothing but destroying the beautiful meaning of hejab and by forbidding drinking that is medically prooved to damage our bodies if u dun want to follow gods rules. Ithink this movie is a huge insult to all arabs either religous and non relegoius ones... and iwanan sya something to that ruba Nadda person, if u wanna make a movie that reveals what arab look like and how do they live, u better make a realistic movie that bases on facts or actually true facts.. dun bring a bunch of bad actors and a naieve and a weak story to show ppl how arabs r.

How anyone can compare My Big Fat Greek wedding to this movie must be incredibly simple and dumb. That movie raised the bar? How! I mean in Greek wedding movie they fall in love as quickly as a snap of the finger. So to say that movie raised the bar must be on the most idiotic things I have ever heard. That person must have also loved Battlefield Earth. Sabah was a great movie. And yes I agree, about time we saw Arab culture portrayed as funny and humane.

I love some of the comments on this site. You sound like experiences critics. One of you Said it had more potential? You should go out and make a movie and lets see how will you do. As a Caucasian man who was dragged to go see this movie by my girlfriend, I quite enjoyed it and learned something new about the culture. But just taking a look at some of the comments here made by some Muslims, I have to admit, I feel sorry for your community. Rather than be proud of this Middle Eastern filmmaker, you try and put her down. You sound backwards. [...]

About time a Muslim woman was depicted as having a choice and making decisions and yes having sex and enjoying it. Had this been a movie about a Muslim man, so many of these extremist comments would never have been made. Sabah is a wonderful achievement but sad at the same time, as I know my community still needs to do a lot of catching up!

I suppose the movie has a lot of sterotypes, nevertheless a wonderful story. As a progressive muslim who does not have to deal with the same family pressures- I can still relate and I think sabah (main character) plays a very touching role. I found it realistic. Great movie. Go watch it!!

As a Muslim woman who is married and leads a fairly conservative life, I had to see this movie during the day as my husband forbid it. I highly comend the people for making this film. Oh how I wish I could be in love like that. And it's about time that Arabs were shown on the big screen. This reminded me of Breakfast at Tifanny's -such a clasic and elegant film. And a beautiful, beautiful love story. I was caught up and cried when the film ended. I loved it.

Personnaly, I think that with this movie, they made so much attention on not provoking "wrong attention" from extremist Muslims that they made the movie really "cheap". This movie would have had so much potential, there were great jokes in there but that was just that. The movie has nothing but some good jokes put in really wrong places, the dialogue as so bad that it makes the movie so long, acting is very poor, personnaly, I think that if they made a movie like this with so much to tell, they should have at least got good actors... finally, I think that My Big Fat Greek Wedding put the bar up so high that every single movie that does come out, is just ver bad or poorely made... Sabah is just poorly made... I would go to giving this movie a 1 but I think that it well (very well) deserves a 4 on 10.

A remake of "My big fat Greek wedding" nothing origninal about the story line or caracters. The best performance is by Sabah's Arab sister in law, and her daughter. The mother can't act she is terrible.

Sabah is such a great movie! There was a very angry Muslim woman in a hijaab who was visibly upset afterwards and kept saying, this story should not have been told. Sabah should not have been Muslim. I never thought (as a WASP Caucasian) that this story would be so controversial! But it is. I guess it's the first time you see a Muslim woman falling in love and feeling something with someone who isn't Muslim. And Sabah's sweetheart is so cute too! Excellent chemistry!

As a Canadian-American middle-aged white wasp male that has been guilty of viewing middle-eastern or arab persons with some suspicion and apprehension because of ignorance, I must admit that I was very taken by this sweet movie. Yes it may be simplistic but it is also very accessible and very well played and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the characters. I certainly do not ever recall a mainstream movie that focusses on a middle-eastern family with such positivity and good humour. I must also admit that I find Arsinee Khanjian one of the most appealing and sexiest women I have seen grace a screen in a very long time.

A beautiful film that will absolutely charm you. The director deals with a very difficult topic and does not pull any punches. She takes a uniquely Canadian approach and solution to a dilemma that has always existed. To those who feel that she shows a one-sided approach to islam, grow up and be more tolerant! Many of the characters represent VERY REAL individuals and situations in muslim families today. However, in the end, the characters are redeemed thereby acknowledging that compromise is the only real solution. A great film that will leave you smiling. I highly recommend it!

I heard so much about it and being a progressive Muslim, I thought that its worth a shot. Sorry to say, this movie feeds EVERY SINGLE STEREOTYPE about MUSLIMS and ARABS and isn't well written or well put together. The filming is awesome, but so it was in "Clone Wars" and SWII still sucked! Great cinematography does not a great movie make! The movie panders to cheap emotions and patronizing instincts of the viewing public. It minimizes the struggles which Arab and Muslim Women are going through and reduces the whole "Muslim Immigrant" experience to a simplistic farce. I had high hopes for this movie, but unfortunately Atom as not been able to rescue this fuzzy feel good blob from the eventual doom and a flat landing which it offers the viewers. I felt cheated at the end. Even though it had some good spots. Soo, if you are Canadian Mainstream and think Irshad Manji is the best thing that happened to Muslims, you'll love this sentimental tripe. If you are a person with half of your critical thinking neurons left intact despite the onslaught of the mainstream media, you might be in for a bit of a rude surprise. P. S. Loved the trailer, hated the movie. Sorry folks! Didn't mean to bust your well meaning (though patronizing) bubbles.

The only thing this movie succeeds in doing is painting a highly distorted image of the lives of the muslim-arab women of Canada. Misrepresentation to this extreme only adds to existing stereotypes and promotes cultural misunderstandings... appallingly irresponsible... and terrible acting as well...

I am very critical and dislike most movies. Sabah, however is exceptionally well done, and I hope its director goes on to make many more quality films. I take issue with anyone commenting that Sabah does not accurately reflect the predicament of many Middle Eastern women who are faced with family pressure to continue observing conservative beliefs and traditions while exploring alternative, non-traditional ways of living life. It is in no way degrading to people from the Middle East, and is a definite 'must-see' I'll recommend to my friends and others. [...]
