A very emotional tale of deceit and courage. Brings us back to a time where abortions where illegal and very covered up. Outstanding performance by Mcguire. Genius casting! Caine brings true intergrity to his role. Brillant! A must see!

I thought this movie was interesting in its presentation of pro-choice abortion issues. I believe it could have been improved if Homer had've held on to his pro-life beliefs in spite of what he felt he needed to do as the director of the orphanage.

Finally a movie that sticks pretty close to the story it was based on, due largely to author John Irving's involvement with the movie. Sad, sweet and moving, it gives hope where there may not always be any.

A very powerful movie. It has heart and emotion, and gets very emotional at times. A great movie to see.

A rare movie. Among other things this movie tackles the issue of abortion, taking the opposite view from mine, and I enjoyed the movie and did not feel offended by their point of view. They told a story well, with both good and bad told in a true and honest way.

This type of moving is one of my favorite. But what made it real good was the nice selection of actors and the scenery (setting) was very well done. You saw yourself back in history seeing it for yourself.

Very good movie. Unexpected ending. Very good story. It's an 8 on 10 for sure.

A moving account of a young orphan's life. Toby Maguire plays a young man learning of life under the study of an abortionist. Micheal Caine plays the abortionist trying to teach the art of healing to a boy he calls son. A touching story of learning to love in a place where all love should be lost, but is not. Micheal Caine at his best, Toby Maguire is a shining star. Also starring Charlize Theron and Paul Rudd.

As most people would agree, I believe Cider House Rules is a great film to see. Great cast, great story. I also believe this movie should have deserved the Oscars more than American Beauty.

One of those rare "movies" based on a popular novel that doesn't offend the book. Probably because John Irving wrote the screenplay as well. Critically the movie has been attacked for softening the book's pro-choice angle. My belief is that the movie simply does what it can in the limited space to portray the truth of the issue - it's not easy to take sides. Good performance from Michael Caine, but I still think that kid from Sixth Sense deserved the Oscar. (But what does my opinion count...NEXT!)

It is a very touching film. It really makes you identify with some of the characters. Comedy, romance, tragedy: everything I love in a film. I kept crying throughout the film, but now and then I burst into uncontrollable laughter. It was a great mix of emotions, and treated so many subjects in a non-confusing way. Only one little tiny critique: in real life people don't usually recognize and regret the error of their ways (although it is so easy to do on the big screen). But that is also what makes this movie such a "nice" movie: it is sad and moving, but not depressing at all.

This was an excellent movie. I enjoyed it immensely. It is now my favorite movie of all times. Perhaps it was because I want to open an orphanage late in life, perhaps not. The actors were sensational, and the plot was easy to follow. It was enjoyable movie to watch and it made the viewer think. It covered issues of abortion, racism, and many other universally controversial issues. I recommend that everyone go see this film. Michael Caine was wonderful and Tobey MacGuire really makes the film.

I still don`t understand why this movie is supposed to be such a masterpiece. I usually like these movies but this one missed something and I think it may be due to the cast but still worth watching.

"Cider House Rules" is a moving film dealing with some of the centuries most controversial issues in a respectable manner. It is both entertaining and touching. The movie does, however, tug at your heart-strings with the adorable orphans.

EXCELLENT film - no wonder it is nominated for best oscar... The children are adorable and many controversial issues (abortion, adoption, orphanage life) are explored throughout the story. Great acting on the parts of the two leads (McGuire and Theron) - the kids are amazing. You won't regret!!!

Such an excellent movie, well deservant of the Oscar for which it is nominated! The issues the movie deals with are very true and gives the audience a realistic view of those times. Excellent!

On the technical side the film was proficiently made. The scenery was gorgeous. The direction was patchy: sometimes passable and often leaden. The actors struggled valiantly with what little they had. The best part of the film was the very fine acting by the child actors: astonishing and unexpected in this particular context. Those stellar performances by the children highlight the problems of the film as a whole because of the comparison. It's very sad nobody thought to hire a good writer. What a waste of money!

This movie is fantastic! It's beautiful to watch, and touches upon many controversial issues in a frank and thoughtful way. Rarely does a Hollywood movie actually take a real stand on such emotionally-charged issues as The Cider House Rules does. Tobey Maguire is an independent idealist, Charlize is simply elegant, and the kids who play the orphans are so delightful ! A definite must-see !

This movie has a clear message, does a grand job of putting it forth, and has endearing characters, well-acted. Fans of John Irving's book may find that the movie deviates a bit from the original work, but not to a painful degree. Enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this movie. As the movie began, I thought to myself that I did not want to watch the movie, I thought it would be boring and too long. Before I knew it, the movie was finished and I wanted to see more. I loved every minute of it. I was touched by this movie and hope to see more movies like this one in the future! I give it a 8½/10.

"Cider House Rules" combines visual appeal, characters who invite the audience to identify and sympathy with them, and a strong narrative which sweeps the viewer along almost ireesistably. Unfortunately, behind this captivating surface, lies a manipulative attempt to win the viewer to certain moral positions. The decent Homer becomes an abortionist - how dare we not agree with his choice? In short, an entertaining and well-made movie based upon a questionable literary work.

A beautiful movie, well acted. Yes, it's another coming of age story but it holds your interest for the entire film. Beautiful scenery. Great representation of life in Maine during the WWII. Caine is sure to get an Oscar nomination. Perfect ensemble cast.

The movie reflects a real life issue. No reasons why events happen the way they happen. Yrt, the director failed to show the covering facts behind the real life story which is evident in the movie However, he still got away with snapping the eudiance's attention to the drama sidewhich is not the main issue in the movie.
