It was gross!!! I am not someone that tolerates torture and executions... but still! I found it really hard to understand the story. But the costumes and the decor was really good. I dont really like Cate Blanchett but she was actually good.

I find the historical Elizabeth I very interesting, and I'm a big Cate Blanchett fan. The costumes and make-up in this movie were really impressive. In my opinion, her performance was more worthy of an Oscar than was Gwyneth Paltrow's, who won that year for "Shakespeare in Love."

This movie is an absolutely the most real, historical movie that I have ever watched. The actors definitely made the story come alive. And just the costumes and props alone, told a story.

A very powerful piece of film making. I really enjoyed it, particularly when Elizabeth battled Mary for control of the throne. I loved the way the film showed the power struggles and politics of the day. I bet in 400 years someone will make a great movie about today's power struggles.

Kapur's fascinating portrayal of Elizabeth shows raw emotion rather than impenetrable queen. Guided by hauntingly smooth directing the time period becomes your own.

This is the best Victorian style movie that I have ever seen. Cate Blanchett plays an amazing Elizabeth I. Wicked movie.

Enjoyed this movie so much we bought it and added it to our collection. Visually stunning and Cate Blanchett is riveting as Elizabeth - definitely Oscar-worthy in our opinion. If you enjoy historical films, you will love this one.

Magnificient movie, but you will enjoy it much more if you had a little background in History. This film is beautifully made and although some parts seemed rather long, I loved the whole 2 hours of it.

Take away all the incredible costumes, and there is not very much worth watching. The movie suffers from a catalogue of camera styles and long boring shots on faces of characters agonizing over their fate. The rock solid pace never varied, no matter that every scene had it's own internal dynamics. I tried to get a sense for the history, and even though I love British history, I couldn't get past the posturing. Like all good historical dramas, the material is there. In this case they failed to make it work.

The director captures the dark and haunting atmosphere of the english palaces perfectly and transforms this historical drama into a thriller which is no mean achievement. Blanchett shines as the virgin queen and its a pity she didnt win an oscar for that (though Paltrow deserved it too) Fiennes as the queen's lover falters near the end but Blanchett gets better and better.

It is fabulous to see a film about such a strong and powerful woman. Elizabeth's transformation is fascinating to watch. Visually the movie was stunning too. I will definately see it again. One of the best movies I have seen to date.

A visual experience transforming you back to a viscous time where royalty, sex, treachery and religion were all intricately intermingled. Cate Blanchett beautifully portrays Elizabeth I and is well-deserving of an Oscar nomination. Geoffrey Rush also delivers a powerful and memorable performance. One has to wonder how he was not nominated for a supporting-actor Oscar for this much more deserving stoic portrayal of Elizabeth's advisor than a bumbling theatre owner repeating the same line..."It's a mystery" in Shakespeare in Love. Speaking of which...Joseph Fiennes seems to play the almost exact role of the passionate forbidden lover in both movies. I really hope he does not get type-cast because his presence on film is undeniable. Final comment on the movie, an excellent period piece which drags at times but it's detail to costumes, setting and powerful acting makes it a worth while view.

Very interesting. Good acting, wonderful costume, and apparently historically accurate. Gives fascinating insight into the life of Elizabeth first and the late Middle Ages in general.

A most beautiful film if a little long. The direction and cinematography were excellent. The use of the REAL tower in those scenes added to the flavour. The soundtrack was monumental and the acting, of course, superb. Cate Blanchettt *IS* Elizabeth I. And the costumes.... oh, need I say more? Go see it!!!
