DVD: "Basquiat"
Great performances by Jeffery Wright, Benicio del Toro, Gary Oldman and Bowie is classic as Andy Warhol. Talent lost too early.

Became a personal favorite after 2nd and 3rd viewing. Well done, but more importantly is the drama of thes artist at the time and place. I personally missed much of this era.

Even tho I saw this film twice, on video, it's not that great but not that bad either -- Jeffrey Wright is a good actor but excruiatingly booor-ing!! I still trying to think of what he could have done to make it even a LITTLE bit more interesting... thank goodness for the other actors - Michael Wincott fans will be amazed - now THAT guy is good - he's the reason I watched it twice.

I am not visually attracted to most of Basquiat's work, but I still respect the emotions and images that he projected. I feel that his artwork represents him perfectly. It shows his internal and societial struggles. There are aggression surrounded by truths. I understand the muddled configuration in his head. The confusion, desire, anger, Love, imagination, and most of all addiction. I feel that if most drug addicts or enthusiest were give a paint brush and canvas, their creations would be just as jumbled and confusing to someone who never has experienced the agnoy and exstacy that is addiction. By looking at his work, you don't automatically see his fondness for drugs, you see a lifetime of phrases, expression and experiences on a canvas. Those are his experiences, and I don't think that it is possible for anyone to understand experiences that he could not phathom. His entire life he never fit into a category, religion, race, living circumstance, ect. He continued this pattern in his artwork and has stupified a social class that requires categories and labels..

I now own a copy of this movie "Basquiat", because I think it is superb and well made. The cast is wonderful, especially Jeffrey Wright as Jean Michel Basquiat. This is an excellent story, Julian Schnabel!

Basquiat was an intense movie about an intense artist that I didn't know existed until today. After researching the man and his works, I don't think the movie really captured his essence. However, I'd recommend seeing it to any man who isn't aware that such genius existed.

His movie but from what I've heard it's a must see. The movie portrays a great artist in a junkies body, that cant seem to ever be happy, no matter how much money he gets for his work, he still lost in a poor junkies world. This portrays how much money matters to a man that doesnt care about it. However he maintains a junkies mind that will never accept this bullshit world that we live in, he's lived the low and has experienced the high, pun intended. Don't pay any mind to whoever says this movie isn't worth your time.

I saw "Basquiat" about a week ago, and it's been in the back of my mind since then. I thought the movie was, for lack of a better word... beautiful. I'm truly saddened that jean-michel isn't here now if for nothing else to see a revitalization in the art world. The movie itself was a work of art. You have to take Basquiat for what he was and forget the drugs, forget everything and just look at the only thing he did leave behind. This is getting way to corny. Just watch the movie and you'll understand.

Movie with a drug abuser as the main character are often garbled and this is no exception. However, this really was basquiat's life in a nutshell. I gained a true understanding of his life and how he really did waste the moment. It's a movie worth seeing if you are an american art fan.

I saw Basquiat a few days ago, and thought it was great. The marvelous work of Jean-Michel made me look for some pictures of his work from the internet. I think everybody should see this movie.

This film about the master of doodles dawdles. I still don't understand why Basquiat is considered an artist whose work is worthy of museums and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Skip the movie and turn on the TV to a scrambled station... The images are about the same, and you'll save the movie-rental cost.
