Excellent movie. The problem with Hollywood today is that they are incapable of bringing common folks problems to the big screen.

Movies don't get any better than this. The performances are so believable you are startled to realize that you're sitting in a movie theatre. Leigh manages to convey the tragedy and comedy of ordinary characters in everyday situations with almost Shakespearean drama. When one of the main characters declares "Secrets and Lies. We're all in pain. Why can't we share our pain? ", it's a scene so emotionally charged and genuine as to be almost unwatchable. The emotional roller coaster ride ends with a quietly triumphant happy scene that lives on in the imagination for quite some time.
