Very disappointing. Pancino was just like a zombie. This movie had potential... but failed miserably even the story line was choppy.

Al Pacino was excellent in his portrayal with Insomnia which was also brilliantly visualised.

It explored the depth of human emotion in terms of guilt and raised questions of morality in terms of "does the end justify the means? "... gripping and thought provoking. Pacino was at his finest! Take a friend, worthy of coffee talk afterwards.

[...] It wasnt for action! It didnt say "this movie is going to be filled with blow-em-up kick in the ass action"! It was about the guilt, and as said in the name, his insomnia! I thought it was an excellent film.

I saw the movie at the Fox recently. It starts off with an interesting premise and location, then adds a twist that's throws ambiguity onto Pacino's motives. So far so good. Unfortunately there's Robin Williams as a fairly uninteresting antagonist who, despite being a novelist, is capable of performing feats normally reserved for a champion log roller. Pacino, at 60, can apparently swim fully clothed in freezing water for almost a minute without taking a breath and resurface without so much as a sneeze. He also can tell where Robin Williams' character lives in a State he's unfamiliar with by simply seeing the latter's photo on a book sleeve in front of a non-descript cabin in the woods. Amazing cop. Overall, not bad, but not the... sleeper... I was hoping for.

I was again impressed with Al Pachino's performance. He is perhaps the only actor I could want or imangin that could do that roll with will be a no dought best actor nomination, and what I've seen this year, he'll win. Bravo A+.

Rarely are do all the pieces fit together as perfectly as they do in this film. This one will become a classic.

You have two of the most powerful character actors in Hollywood... you've got a comic genius and your stereotypical "gangsta"... and what do you get when you put them together in a psychological thriller? Nothing... *sigh* I have absolutely no idea why the writers did not expand with Finch... it was there... it was so there... and they didn't take it. The trailers for the film lead you to believe something that isn't there. The hype that this movie created in my mind from the trailers was not what it was. Sadly I'm disappointed. I agree with other reviewers... the Alaskan and Vancouver Island footage is breathtaking but not worth the admission price. Wouldn't have been as painful to drive the 10 hrs to the coast. The story was there, the plot was there, but the development of everything got missed.

This movie is simply cinematic eyecandy, and this finally is the only reason to go see this film. The sweeping shots of Alaskan mountains and the searing brightness of midnight are really the only story here. Al and Robin fumble their performances in that they seem to walk through this movie in a zombie like haze. Kudos to Robin who plays against character but doesn't really interest. And, well, Al, his performance was no, " You're out of order..." all in all an ok film but wait till it comes out on video... or see it as a matinee simply for the big screen explosion of colour, landscape, and stark lighting.

I found this movie interresting and unusual. I had seen the original 1997 version in a foreign language. I have to say the american one is much better.

I liked the movie, but the characters could have been developed a little more in depth. Robin Williams was convincing as a bad guy with a guy face; I almost felt sorry for him. Unfortunately he was not seen enough in the movie and his character was used too superficially.

Pretty good, left a couple of holes in which they hope the audience isn't smart enough to comment on, but not enough to make us not enjoy it.

I figured with Christopher Nolan directing, given that I loved Memento, and with Al Pacino starring, this had to be a winner. I am disappointed. Pacino, as usual, was a consummate professional, the rest of the cast good, but the movie was slow, the plot insipid and weak. This seemed like a movie that was made solely to draw an audience with star power. Well it worked, it drew me and I regret it.
