I liked this movie, one of Nicolas Cage's best so far. Very entertaining and amusing, funny at times. Don't miss it.

Well, after reading some critical reviews I decided to sit down and watch the film. I put aside the original, and found this to be a pretty good movie. Cage seemed to re-create a bit of a Matchstick Men role with more edge (acting-wise) It definitely left a few things to be desired in the storyline, but all-in-all I was entertained. Good movie, worth seeing 7/10.

They could have worked on it a bit more to turn it into a masterpiece. Anyway, great idea and Nicolas Cage was fabulous.

Werner Herzog should have stuck with managing baseball teams. Oops sorry, that was Whitey Herzog, who took the St. Louis Cardinals to a sensational World Series victory in 1982. Could it be that they're one and the same person? Because this movie looks like it was made by someone who is better at playing off baseball players' egos and micro-managing ball games than making coherent movies. What's with all the upshots with reptiles in the foreground? Don't get me wrong, I love reptiles. God bless all reptiles (and God bless each and everyone who is reading this) But if you need to watch some out-of-control cop ripping people off and making a moral mockery of his job I recommend the original with Keitel. This one is half-baked and non believable. If you're going to make a remake, make sure it's better than, or at least on a par with, the original.

Why are people giving this crap a 10!!!? Cage was lame! The last time I have seen him do something good was Leaving Las Vegas. It felt like a low budget cop drama. Harvy Keitel would shot himself in the head watching this. I love the reptile closeups NOT! How stupid was that! Everyone was lauphing at how bad and random the movie was. Oh ya... does anyone else notice how much makeup Cage has on in his last 5 or so films? It makes it even more realistic when cops are wearing make-up! Hahaha.

I gained the most respect for Nicholas Cage as an actor from his role in Bringing Out the Dead. I have slowly lost that respect, but it has now officially been revived with this movie.

I'm not sure its worthy of the 8.8/10 I see here. As much as Nicolas Cage is a good actor, the movie itself doesn't really stick together. From a drugged up cop to his prostitute girlfriend, to just a city that has gone to hell. With Xzibit as the gangster and a supporting role by Val Kilmer (why such a small part for a great actor?) it really could've been produced better.

This is pretty awesome. A mix between Fear and Loathing and a (good) Training Day.

The trailer was pretty good so I expected much more. The beginning seemed interesting but I got really bored and in an hour left the theatre. Wasn't really my style at all.

The pace of this movie and the familiarity of formula, not to mention an interesting performance by Nicholas Cage, reminiscent of his Wild Orchid days made this an entertaining flick.

Love the suspense, drama and plot. Cage still got it and that is why he is the leading man.

This is the best movie of 2009, Cage is over-the-top great as whacked out currupt cop. Viewed this at TIFF but will see it again.

Here's what Werner Herzog has to say about directing a remake of Abel Ferrara's "cult" flick Bad Lieutenant: I've never even seen the original film, so we know now the films have nothing to do with each other. (It was the film's producers who insisted on the title) It was a speculation to start a franchise. And from day one, I said this is a mistake, it will backfire, it is wrong. Got it. It's not a remake. Nicolas Cage is a terrific actor. He is fearless. Unfortunately, he never seems to know how to dose it in whatever roles he picks. Or actually, his performances are barely ever suitable to the characters he plays, making him look bad, uselessly quirky and annoying. With Bad Lieutenant he finds the shoe that fits. His paring with the German director is a match made in heaven. They both understand the material, which would have been bad in lesser hands. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is like an over-the-top parody, and I can already hear some people asking what it is that critics like about this film. The tone is subtle, and it can easily be mistaken as a badly written screenplay, when in fact, it is a terrific film. Cage is the painkiller-addicted Lieutenant who has to solve a murder, while dealing with mobsters, drug dealers, his prostitute girlfriend, some gambling problem, etc... There is a lot going on. At one point I was afraid it would all fall apart, but instead, every subplot is imbricated and nothing is left unresolved in the end. But Bad Lieutenant isnt really about the plots - or the subplots - but rather about the madness, almost surrealistic, but it's not even close to be a character study. Werner Herzog said of his film it's the most hilarious one of his resume. I agree, but not hilarious in a laugh-out-loud way. Herzog doesnt take the script seriously and lets the story tell itself. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans has nothing to do with the Harvey Keitel flick of 1992. A lot of people will be turned off by its crudeness, or they simply wont get its tone. It's not for everyone, but it's a terrific film, and it features Nicolas Cage's best performance in years.

Werner Herzog has always been a great director and, in Bad Lieutenant, he uses Nicolas Cage's talent to create a taut, brilliant and darkly humorous film that had the audience applauding in the end. Certainly well worth the time and money.

Nicolas Cage's best performance since his Oscar-winning role. He is wonderfully disturbing and frightening to watch. Great black comedy, very interesting to watch. Herzog did a great job directing it, pulling fantastic performances out of Cage, and to a lesser extent, Mendes, Coolidge, and Dourif. It's about bad people and is very interesting thematically. Good score and well shot. Also, it's hilarious.

Nick Cage's performance is great in this movie. You see the world through his bizarre drug induced perspective as a "bad" cop who is actually really a good cop. Some of the scenes are laugh out loud hilarious and so random... Well worth watching.

Saw the movie at T. I. F. F. with Nic Cage on hand for the Q & A. A very over the top performance that works and is extremely funny. Herzog and Cage had fun with this one.
