Mark Fergus' stylish, poetic directorial debut, First Snow, is an existential thriller with a pinch of Knife in the Water and a dash of ancient Greek myth. It effectively employs an uncomfortably peaceful quiet to build to an almost unbearable tension as the story patiently unfolds. Guy Pearce is excellent in his textured portrayal of a very flawed, but also very human and ultimately sympathetic character. The oblique script encourages the audience to ponder life's deeper philosophical mysteries once the credits role.

Movie started out good. Then the middle was very slow paced. Very good idea but did not reach it's full potential. Great acting by Guy Pierce. 6/10.
