If you love action, you will love Shaft. Just a real ass-kicking picture with all the extras. I loved this movie.

I thought the movie was good. Samuel L. Jackson was good, but I thought that Busta Rhymes was excellent the role was meant for him. However, I did not like the end of the movie I thought it looked like a easy way to wrap up the film.

The movie is ok. It's good but it's «déjà vu». So... I was a bit disappointed.

I really enjoyed this movie. There is never a dull moment and two hours go by fast. However, did I detect some fake accents? I think so. But I loved everything about it, the actors the plot the seventies theme and music and the one liners! Very entertaining, definitely worth seeing.

Despite the misrepresentation of the Puerto Rican american drug lords, the master performance by Samuel L. Jackson is worth enough to pay 8$ and see that movie. Great first appearance by Busta Rhymes, the taxi driver, which is a rapper and not normally an actor.

Samuel L. Jackson does a great job as a cool, take charge, and rebellious cop in the main role of John Shaft. The movie was entertaining but lacked the groovy vibe that the original Shaft movie. If you're looking for a movie with action and one-line zingers, you'll definitely 'dig' Shaft.

Samuel L. Jackson did a great job portraying John Shaft, but the plot didn't really seem to go anywhere, and there were too many characters too keep track of. I felt plot twists were just thrown in for no reason. However, it was funny and enjoyable, and didn't get too long for it's own good.

The movie was quite a disappointment – albeit entertaining. It has a lot of action, but the plot is thin and unbeleivable; there is tons and tons of foul language and sexual innuendo; it’s so 70’s, although it takes place in the present time; practically every white person in the movie is a racist; and there’s plenty of that funky 70’s sex talk…for god’s sake…the movie starts off with barry white singing aboutJohn Shaft and what a “sex machine he is and only his woman can understand him”. What’s the relevance? I know the movie is based on a television series from the 70s, but give me a break…Barry White? !! The only things missing to make this movie a true 70’s throwback are the bell bottoms and gargantuan afros! Everybody’s a critic right? !

What a painfully bad movie this turned out to be... What was I thinking when I went into the theater? Exactly what I was thinking when I walked right out two horribly long hours later... Good theme song... Too bad the movie stunk. I will admit that Samuel L. Jackson is an amazing actor, but he totally half assed his way through this movie, throwing out "Motherf%#$@R" like it was going out of style. The entire movie was a cliché. The only thing halfway decent about this movie was Christian Bale, who turned out an excellent performance in American Psycho and came into Shaft playing a new type of bad boy... And unfortunately came out only looking pretty. From the lame catchphrases("It's my duty to please that booty") to the endless over-dramatic stylings of Toni Collette. This movie can only be described as.....

I wasn't expecting much and in that regard I wasn't disappointed. Story was not too believable and tons of gratuitous violence. The most enjoyable part of this movie was the theme song and 70's background music. I'd wait for the video.

"Shaft" stands in the same category as "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels", "Pulp Fiction". Although the storyline is not as complex the latters, "Shaft" is just as cool with just as many lines that you just cannot forget. Serge

Hey. Shaft was amazing. It does real homage to the original movie. It's a little gratuitous in the cussing and killing, and there's not enough booty but it's still really well writen and acted. I recommend it!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
If the premise of this movie was to honor the old "Shaft" movies, then it succeeds. The story is thin, the NY characterizations are from any number of other cop movies set in the Big Apple (listen for the latin characters' accents to fade and strengthen throughout the movie), and the car chases are no different than those used in TV shows since the 1960's. Perhaps the most frustrating part of the movie is the inability of the antagonists to shoot straight. In one scene, Shaft, armed with only a hang gun, holds off an entire gang of machine-gun toting thugs. He walks away with nary a scratch or crease in his leather clothes, whereas most of them won't be walking ever again. That being said, the move was entertaining if you suspend your belief in reality. Samuel L. Jackson is a great actor, and brings his looming presence to yet another film. Is it worth $11? That depends on your budget and love of the revival of 60's-70's movie culture. I suggest waiting for the video release.

Not bad, couldn't have been much better, I wasn't expecting it to be exceptional. I wouldn't have minded waiting for this movie to come out on DVD or video, it's not a MUST see like Gone In Sixety Seconds or GLADIATOR (one of the best movies ever! ). But, entertaining, lots of slow parts, but the action scenes were pritty cool.

A good movie: better than most movies that came out this year! Some funny parts, some action but I have to be honest so: some parts of the movie were kind of boring and other were somewhat ridiculous. Still worth seeing.

Good movie. Lots of action (en veux-tu, en voila! ) Jackson as good as usual. Can't see why Richard Roundtree was in the picture, hardly spoke a word anyhow or did any action for that matter! N. Y. Life in the streets, drug atmosphere well pictured. All in all, good, with some predictable outcomes but the ending quite unpredictable.
