Good film. Mixed feelings. But the end seems run in a hush.

This moive is absolutely brilliant! The plot is so mysterious and thrilling. That makes me very into the story. The landscape is incrediblely beautiful. I don't think it is long and boring at all. I think this is a must see movie since Matt Damon truely did a very good job in his role, and Jude Law too. I really like the way that it ends the story because it is so mysterious that you have to figure it out by yourself! Fabulous and thrilling!!!

An absolutely must see movie! I don't understand why people said that it is long and boring. I think they just don't understand this movie or they expect much more from it. Well, I think it is beautifully shot and the actors are great! Especailly Matt and Jude, wonderful! This film just takes my breath away, especially when Mr. Ripley started to become crazy and wanted to become Dickie. He just hates to be himself and wants to be somebody instead of being a real nobody! This is a very brillant movie. The story is just amazing and breathtaking! I'm so glad to see it!

It is a good film, but it does not finish to good. Matt Damon is a very good actor and usually he is a hero in all the other films that he did. It is very sad to see him the movie playing a bad guy. The movie is not as I expected it to be. Not to much action.

Very desappointing. The actors are good, and the adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel is really well done. But the story just didn't do it for me. I think this movie is just missing a 'real' end!

This movie was a little too long making the viewers feel as if it would never end. More importantly the ending wasn't satisfying. The story built up very well but lost its effect thowards the end. On the other hand the main actor as well as the supporting actor did a great job.

It was one of the best movie i have seen, great casting and beautiful setting. The characters were portrayed very well by the actors. It did seem a bit long but I enjoyed every minute of it. (although this holiday season's film all seem to be very long) The homoerotic theme can be the reason why most people didn't enjoy it, but it is very intriguing and intersting.

I enjoyed this movie. The acting was good and it kept my interest through out. My only complaint as such would be, that it is rather predictable with no real surprizes.

Not at all what we expected and that's not a good thing. However, Matt Damon did a terrific job. His imitation were good, but the plot was slow. I nearly fell asleep! We think they ran out of film at the end!

What were they thinking!!! Nobody can tell me this movie is any good no matter what. A long and drawn out affair worthy of the TRASH! Only a few positive points allow me to give it a 2 rather than 1. Save your money ... go see Toy Story.

This movie sucked!! When I heard it was going to be a great movie I figured I'd go and see it, but what really was going to interest me was the shocking ending! A door with a mirror shut, wow! Big shocking ending. I spent two and a half hours on that! I wouldn't see that movie again even if it was free! Although Jude Law was very hot and thrilling to watch!

This was one of the worst movies I have seen in ages! It's predictability was only overshadowed by the wooden script. A definite waste of money.

I found this movie entertaining from beginning to end. The location is fabulous (a dream place) and Great Cinematography. Matt Damon was fantastic in this role and so was the others. I liked the way it ends, it surprised me (and believe me, american movies usely don't).

I thought it wasn't great when I saw it (it was kind of long) but the next day, it haunts you! You start wondering why he did the things he did. The cast was wonderful and it was great to see Matt Damon as that character! Go see it NOW!!!!!!

I thought this was a great movie, not your typical easily wrapped up American fare. Matt Damon was wonderful, he made an abhorrent character sympathetic. Jude Law is on his way to stardom...Gwyneth was Gwyneth...Kate Blanchet was wonderful, wish she had the Gwyneth Role... a must see movie, beautifully shot... gorgeous scenery, great acting.... Anthony Minghella is an amazing talent.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
Very contradictory movie. The recreation of Italy was beautiful. Just don't like movies that make the bad win over the good. Matt Damon played a serious personality disorder person that just because he could not find himself he would copy someone's else persona. And when in conflict - three people know him as "Dickie", Peter knows him as "Tom", he would kill Dickie by killing the only person who knew him by that name, Peter. A lot of killing. Very good acting, very bad story and a beautiful Italy!

This is probably the least interesting movie I have seen all year. As much as people say the ending is unexpected, I found it to be predictable. Matt Damon does a poor job of acting suspenceful, and Gwyeneth Paltrow attempts to act in another movie. A definate must Not see!

This movie is not bad. The acting is very good. Jude Law was perfect for the role. The movie really succeeds in sending through its message. Ripley is hateful and conniving. The scenery is breathtaking. The director doesn't hand feed you any conclusions. It was too long though and the ending was a let down.

A little disppointing... While the suspense was kept on throughout this film, the story could have been better told (an unfortunate Hollywood 'tradition' lately...) Cinematography was pretty good (obvious attention to detail on location), and as for the acting, it was, well, acceptable at best... sorry - even those comfortable + big seats and 360 deg. theatres couldn't bring this move up to scratch. Wait for the rental...

I'd give it a 9 on 10, the movie loses a point for being ever so slightly long. It's well worth leaving the comfort of your home to go out and see this movie. This movie has many layers which unravel as you watch the movie. Decidely, it seems a bit long, but I don't think there were any scenes which could have been excluded. You have to pay attention and let yourself get involved in the plotline. I felt sympathetic towards Matt Damon's character... all he really wanted was to fit in and for a while, it seemed as if he did. After all, isn't that what we all want, just to belong and fit in somewhere. I thought Jude Law's Dickie was well acted and Gwyneth Paltrow was good at playing Marge (she's had better roles and better acting under her belt). I think she underplayed her so as not to be the main focus of the film. This movie makes you think... I really liked the ending, how else could it end, the line about always being in the basement was crucial and yet poignant, because the character saying it (don't want to give anything away), realized that actions do have repercussions. Sometimes we have look beyond visual special effects and physical humour. Sometimes a movie can have textures that make us think after leaving the cinema.

The story itself was so so, it dragged on for too long and to no avail... the ending was unexpected but pointless.... The acting was good.. the scenery breathtaking... makes you want to pack your bags and visit this beautiful country... don't expect for the previews to serve as a prelude to the movies... you'll be dissapointed!

An excellent film! The filming locations are amazing, very beautiful images of Italy. Some people might be bothered by the way men are portrayed behaving close together in the film, which is nicely done, in a way that does not suggest homosexuality (except at the end, where it is different and obvious). I thought the ending was perfect. It doesn't "resolve" in the way you'd expect, which is nice, it leaves an even stronger impression. A very strong film.

While watching this movie, I couldn't decide if I should hate, love, pity or despise Tom Ripley, and this is what makes Matt Damon a very good and talented actor. This movie is sometimes predictable, but the end is so unpredictable and it will make you think.

I did not enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would. The scenery and the acting were pretty good but the story itself was stupid. I also found that the movie was dragging on and there were a lot of scenes that could have been removed to make it shorter.
