If you consider film making an art and the purpose of art to evoke a reaction from its audience, then judging by the passionate reviews for this film, director Robert Altman has created something very special here. I personally thought this film was as good as any of Altman's other recent work. Perhaps the negative reactions are the result of Altman attempting to say something about one half of the potential audience that they do not like to hear.
