In spite of appearing in only the second half of the movie, Penelope earned her Oscar. Am not a fan of hers, but she delivered a decidedly candid, earthy and sensual character. Otherwise too much of Scarletts bottom on display. Rebecca Hall is luminous. W. Allen's script seems pulled out of hat but funny and entertaining!

I'm not a big fan of Woody Allen, but thought I'd watch this movie since Penelope Cruz won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I thought the movie was just all right. It kept my attention, it was an ok storyline, but it just wasn't WOW!

This was the worst movie I've seen in a long time. It's two hours of my life I will never get back.

Well, at least it is not set in New York! Only Woody Allen could make such a mish-mash of a movie. There are some good bits: Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem and their fabulous chemistry; Barcelona (who could screw that up) Bad bits: Scarlett Johansson (who should REALLY stop acting in Woody Allen's movies before he wrecks her career), Rebecca Hall, inane narration, really bad script. And somebody should have told Woody. Allen that they speak Catalan not Spanish in Barcelona (and fought a small civil war partly over this) - specially since the unilingual American woman main character claims to writing a thesis on Catalonian culture. Yawn.

For those with a sense of romance and passion in your life. For those who have traveled Europe, have a taste for the arts and a heart for human's lovely foibles, you'll love it... you'll get it. For the bitter... stay home and be quiet. Just stay home. Give the rest of us some room at the cinema! Yay.

Wow, beautiful city and countryside, engaging and sexy leads, clever woody allen dialogue (OK, this works for many, not others), modern relationships, and no hollywood ending, what's not to like?

I enjoyed the movie while I was watching it--everybody's so good looking, like the lush surroundings. But where's the edge? Where's the stuff I can relate to? While it purports to explore issues of love, passion, how to live, it exists in fantasyland. After mulling it over for awhile, I feel like it's --sorry, Mr Allen --an old man's indulgence.

Refreshing, good acting by Cruz and Bardem. Johansson seemed a little out of place. I loved the scenery! Made me want to get inside the screen and seat with them...

The worst thing about this movie, was Johanson's acting. Even in the first scene, you see her just posing... and that went along the whole movie. Cruz was amazing. The story was Allen's style. Entertaining and different as usual.

Great movie, very funny. What I love about Woody aleen is that he'll never do the same thing twice, I mean you wouldn't really think that Match point and Scoop are from the same director despite the same actrice (Johanson)

The better of the two Woody Allen movies that are out right now. Great acting. I could hear Woody Allen's voice in some of the characters (actually, that was almost a bit annoying) Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz make the film.

One of the great Woody Allen films! (not all of them are!) Keeps you hanging all along, beautifully absurd at times, so real at others, full of unexpected twists and turns, funny, ironic, realistic and unrealistic at the same time! A film I can watch a second time! Very entertaining.

We tried to watch it tonight, but it's basically unwatchable. Ridiculous dialogue, and wooden acting to a dumb script.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
This film has intelligence and is well filmed. BUT - it suffers from too many words and is overly long. Generally Woody Allen puts all this relationship angst about falling in and out of love into comedy. This movie was not particularly funny. It comes off as intellectually strained - we are told over and over that Cristina is unhappy with her boring husband. Also, I kept thinking, where are these two women getting the money to eat in lavish restaurants - one is a student and the other is an amateur film-maker. Surely the artist they meet, who is driving a fancy sports car and lives in a lavish home can't be making any money from those atrocious paintings we see. Towards the end Cristina leaves for Paris which is far more expensive than Spain. Where's the money? Only Penelope Cruz infuses needed energy into this movie.

If you have nothing else to do than watch it... someone narrates the movie half of the time... pretty boring, all about "mmm" and nothing else. Scarlett Johansson was boring as usual. Penelope Cruz was just amazing... she stole the spotlight.

I'm an on and off Woody Allen fan. This one is off. This is like an Eric Rohmer's wanna be film. For those who don't done, Eric Rohmer is an elderly French filmmaker who specializes in relationships of young people in exotic places. They are mainly talking head kinda films which weigh heavily on the actors... In Woody's case, the key actos are quite annoying and their opinions are very banal. Still, kudos to good old Woody for trying...

I found this film sedated. The writing of Allen is usually more volcanic and intensely intellectual. I did enjoy parts. The ending was horrible even for horrible endings. I thought the film just got going and all of sudden it ended. Very forgettable!

Interesting film; light and dark, funny sometimes, gorgeous views of Barcelona. Cruz and Bardem offer a tantalizing translation-- or fantasy-- of european culture for Johansson and Hall (the american tourists-- also us, perhaps, north american viewers) the question "how should we act? " is at the centre of this film, though it revolves around risk and passion. A thoughtful movie, definitely worth seeing.

I expected this movie to be much heavier, with more sex scenes. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it is done in a light tone and even funny at times. The sex scenes were not longer than necessary to the story, which I appreciated. If you're not looking for an action-packed drama, it is a pleasant little film.

Kind of boring. Beautiful actors and beautiful locations- but that’s pretty much all this movie has going for it. Nothing original here, and nothing particularly funny… or serious. I found myself wondering what the point was.

I saw this film, not because of Woody Allen, but to reminisce the grandeur and beauty of Barcelona. Xaviers' advances (is he sexy enough?!!! OMG!) surely responds to the European way of approaching tourists. I thought Penelope was funny, she reminds me of la Loren in her hey days. Enjoyed it greatly.

This movie mixes two of the more attractive spanish movie stars. The story is too simple for me. And the chemistry between roles is not heated enough to make this movie not forgettable. Woody Allen's movie has a problem of too simple as usual.

I now feel like a Woody Allen insider. The man is bent in a delicious manner and the cast he chose were pure genius. I laughed and felt real and warm and fuzzy inside. The humanity and lack of hypocrisy alone are worth a ton. Go enjoy this work oh humanity.

I can't stand to see the ugly Penelope Cruz anymore! And producers selling their souls to cigarette companies and bringing those back into the films pisses me off too. This is my political statement.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would highly recommend it. Is it realistic - well, no, but if that's what you're after, watch a reality TV show. This movie is pure fun; watching Javier seduce these women is amusing and Penelope Cruz (who is a fantastic actress - see Volver if you haven't already) was fiery. I am not a huge Woody Allen fan (except Match Point) but still really loved it (probably because he was not actually in it!)

I didn’t pick to see it, and to be honest if it was on TV for free I probably wouldn’t have watched it. I knew it was going to be bad. It wasn’t romantic and wasn’t even funny. Storyline was nothing special, kinda boring actually, with no real beginning, climax or ending. This movie was about lovers and there weren't even any real love scenes and no nudity (if well done it just makes this type of movie much more convincing) Basically it's one of those movies where you ask yourself at the end ‘What was the point of this? ’ Even if you're a woman I wouldn't recommend it.

I had high expectation before going in... Because most of my friends enjoy the movie. To my surprise I was disappointed by this movieI felt there was no real plot or conclusion. Also It maybe time for Woody to search for an other leading lady because Scarlett really didn’t deliver on this one…She had no presence. Only Cruz performance in my eyes salvage the movie she was so funny, and yet so dark.
