Good start to a trilogy but as a stand alone, not so great. This gives a trilogy the best drawn out prologue and intro yet. See it for the point of the whole story.

Never saw this movie in theatres I missed out on that but I made up for it. I've watched it enough on my Tv at home! LOL. It's an INCREDIBLE movie Just WOW! I wish that exibition for just a night would play all three of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. With like 15 minute breaks in between but not in between each movie at a different place to create a different affect. I think that would be cool!

The first 45 minutes or so of this movie are captivating. We are drawn into this prehistoric world and amazed by the cinematography. Then the great theme is tarnished, slowly but surely, by endless and rather annoying violence, stupid plot twists, and an overabundance of monsters to be killed. This is what an episode of 'Xena: Warrior Princess' would look like with an endless budget. Unless you are into something like Dungeons and Dragons, or unless you think it's really cool to be like everyone else who thinks it's really cool to watch and pretend to like this movie, you will not like this movie. Did I mix you up? Well, now you know how mixed up this movie is. All that having been said, it still manages to get a passing grade only because of the cinematography and special effects.

It was an AWESOME movie but it had some problems. The biggest problem is: It isn't in the shape of the big movie for the story like LORD OF THE RINGS.

I watched the first two of the trilogy : The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers on the same day! I was overwhelmed! They were not boring at all! During the same week, I watched each film three more times. The more you watch them, the more you like them. I think they are the best films ever made!

Well, I saw this movie thrice in a row in the cinema and I just loved it! The movie itself was brilliant but I say the scenery played an important part as well, it was beautiful! The casting was amazing because I think no one can replace Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas and everyone else they were made for these roles, the directing was unquestionable, I have read all three books and yea some scenes were cut but the idea wasnt just dropped they changed the story to make it more interesting... Th music was sensational it fitted the scenes perfectly... well overall ill give this movie an A** it is a masterpiece and will be one of the movies that will be remembered for decades... I bought the dvd and watched the movie over and over again I just love the movie and I wouldnt hesitate to watch the movie again... well some of the American cinemas are showing all 3 movies in a row I wish that Windsor cinemas would do it too!

Most of you are probably thinking I loved this movie. But it was a COMPLETE waste of my time. I could do at that movie what I do every night... sleep and I did sleep but my friend who forced me to see it kept waking me up. Dont waste your valuble time seeing this movie(if it even counts as a movie) go see a movie worth seeing. If you enjoy rat faced weirdo's with hairy feet be my guest and waste your time and money. Dont bother to buy it either it will collect dust to fast.

Great acting on all parts. Incredible score. Mind-blowing sets. Amazing costumes. Splendiferous Scripting. Fantabulous cinematography. Great job of adapting Tolkien's master peice to the screen. Some good parts missed out but nothing overly important. Jaw-on-the-floor special effects. Just a pleasure to see, makes the eyes want more.

An excellent film, made better by the addition of several scenes the director decided to leave on the cutting room floor for the theatrical version. While the additional scenes do make an already long film longer, I feel the added details and additional insight into several characters make it worth the time. Boromir is given more screen time and dialog, which lets us understand a little more of why he does what he does at the end of the film; We are also given an interesting look at Gimli and how his attitude toward the elves is changing. There are many more changes that I could discuss, but that discussion would turn this into a whole essay on editing and home VS theatrical exhibition. I will also mention the copious (two disc's worth) number of "making of" features in this set. You will really get a feel for every aspect of this production, from the writing and early conceptualization to set building to editing and music scoring: this is truly a comprehensive piece of documentary. But it doesn't stop at that; as it's also a very human piece with many insights into the lives of the cast & crew and how this grand production changed each and every one as it brought them together. It really is worth the time to sit down and watch all of these features.

... well where do I start? This movie was crap! And I think that if it came down to it in the real life (well as real life as wizards and hobbits get) Harry Potter would kick Frotos lil hobbit a$* anyday... it truly is depressing how much this movie killed an amazing novel... take the money you spend on this movie and buy the book it would be a way better idea and a smarter way to spend your cash.

These people are brilliant. Film one movie and sell three. Honestly though, I doubt I will remember this in one year's time. I've heard the books were very good, and I can see how a fan of the LOTR storyline can find the movie extremely fun by recognizing story elements reproduced on the big screen. However, if you have never read the book and have never heard of the story you will most likely be almost bored by the length of the movie and slow progression of the storyline. Also, several turns in the plot appear incoherent and I can only hope that the author of the books took better care to develop a truely credible story than the screenwriters did. Then again maybe I'm just ticked off cause I don't get to see the ending of the movie for another TWO YEARS!?!?!? I would recommend reading the books first, THEN going to see the movie, otherwise you will be as lost and unimpressed as I was. That said, the acting is good and the special effects are well done. I give this a six. I wasn't running out of the theater, but I was checking my watch 2 hours into it.
