User's review

Does Scorcese have a violence and gore fetish? It's not a matter of being squeamish about it, rather that after a while it didn't add anything to the film. Visually the movie was superb as was Day-Lewis and a few others. It was very interesting from an historical perspective --however inaccurate-- but beyond that it was flawed. There were too many themes with none of them being dominant. The love story was weak and obviously thrown in as part of the Hollywood formula. Rarkle, you snob, you could use a grammar lesson yourself.
