This movie was a disapointment. I'm really sorry I didn't wait until it comes out on video. Don't waste your money, wait to rent it.

It is a fun movie. But It seems not romantic enough. But, still recommend you go to see on TUES.

This movie was BORING. I was expecting something funny, but what I got was a cheezy, clichée, romantic movie, with jokes from the past. Don`t go and see it.

THIS IS A ROMANTIC COMEDY..... I was somewhat dissappointed because I expected an all out comedy, but on the other hand once I started watching it and forgetting about when the funny parts were coming on, I enjoyed it immensely. Great cast, great characters, and pretty great storyline.... it has a good moral to it....

This movie is not only incredibly funny but its got a wonderful storyline. The actors and actresses do a wonderful job portraying either characters who are hot and conceited, shallow, or people who don't have the classic looks that everyone wants. I think that Gwyneth Paltrow did an especially good job portraying such a large woman and her emotions. The romance is very cute and Jack Black does a wonderful job portraying such a shallow man, and as usual he is pretty funny.

Many movies have a message behind them, I have to admit that this movie's message is the most blunt I've ever seen. Some of you don't like this movie because it has bad jokes on fat people. Well, you know what, look around you, it's a mirror of what's going on in real life. The movie is a wake up call to society I find. Personnally I would prefer going out with a lady who doesn't look like a super model because she would have less of a chance to be a real b*tch. Girls who are pretty and they know it sometimes do not have the best personalities out there.

The previews showed most of the funny scenes... thus the movie was a disappointment. The film makers seemed confused about what kind of a movie this was supposed to be. It's not a silly slap-stick comedy like Dumb & Dumber or There's Something About Mary. Sometimes a serious issue and commedey just don't blend that easily... and that's the case here. In my opinion, the most comedic part of the movie was seeing the HORRIBLE editing (I caught the hanging mic on 3 different scenes!). The movie DOESN'T suck... but it's not worth more than a cheapy night experience.

For the people going to see this movie, you must realise that it WASN'T made to make fun of overweight people. So when someone gives this movie a lower than deserved rating, what did you expect?!?! Hello, if you want to see an oscar winning movie, go see k-pax. But you are watching shallow hal, don't expect it to be nominated. Anyone with HALF A BRAIN would realise that you walk into this movie to laugh because it's SUPPOSED to be pathetically funny. Not because of great acting. People who are UPTIGHT and CAN'T take a joke should NOT go see this movie.

I am ashamed to say I paid good money to see this movie... I wouldn't recommend it, even to my enemies. I understand the whole "beauty is found on the inside" message but I also wanted to go to a comedy that would at least make me laugh once!!

Shallow Hal was a really funny movie. I went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. There was so much more of a story than the usual comedy movies. There were some really funny jokes, and Jason Alexander was great! I really think this is the kind of movie to take lightly because you can't read more into it than what you see.

Throughout the first bit, I wasn't convinced that this movie would hit its mark, considering this comedy somehow became a movie with a message in the making. Watching it to the end proved to me that, more or less, the nail was hit on the proverbial head. I probably would of done it differently, maybe without so much of the stereotypical 'fat humor', however overall the message came across, sometimes sad in between the laughs, I just hope that people with the attitude that people that are not regarded as normal, average or perfect, that watch this movie learn something, that being shallow doesn't get you anywhere in life and doesn't allow you to really get to know someone. However nice the outward appearance of another may be, the beauty of a soul and personality overrides looks any day, and in the long run, it'll will be one of the most components, and life lessons one will learn.

It's an ok movie. The jokes are made at someone else's expense, and quite frankly, you will feel guilty laughing at them, that is if you have a heart. I can't imagine how an overweight person must feel when watching this movie... It is rude and unconsiderate.

I thought that the movie was ok, I thought that there was a lot of fat jokes that was not nice for people that are over weight. The ending proved that weight was not an issue. I think that it should be seen on a cheap night.

It was no Dumb & Dumber, or There's something about Mary, for that matter, but it was a great film nonetheless. First of all, I didn't find the movie all that insulting to fat people (I used to be a bit of a porker myself, and am now well on my way to reclaiming that title) ; rather, I thought it was quite touching and moralistic (is that a word?). There were only a handful of scenes that poked fun at fat people in a demeaning way, and all of these are on the commercials. The rest of the fat jokes were delivered mostly by Jason Alexander, the film's villain, if you want. Now, if a movie villain does cruel things, does that mean the movie is cruel? No, this just makes him a better villain. I found myself pondering my own shallow tendencies after watching this flick. The Farrelly brothers really got me thinking here, who'da thunk it? Now, about the cast: not as funny as I would've liked. Gwyneth Paltrow was great, as was Jason Alexander. Jack Black, although I loved his performances in high fidelity, Saving Silverman, and who wants to be a millionaire, was substandard here. I don't think he can carry a movie's lead role. I think Jason Alexander and Jack Black should have switched roles. Then, I would've given it a 9.

Nothing spectacular, the movie is fine
It is somehow evil towards bigger people but it is a comedy after all
So it is worth it on a cheap day... No need to cry over this.

A really funny movie, touching and with a good message. The plot is well laid out and you definitely feel for the characters. One of the best comedies of 2001. For those overweight who think is an attack on their unhealthy way of life, please review this movie on its mérits and not your lack of self esteem. This is pure comedy and smart movie making.

Oh my God!!! I saw this movie and I have only one question. Is this a Comedy? This has to be the worst acted movie in the history of making movies in the last 100 years. My grandmother could have acted in this movie and it would have came out better then this and she has been dead for 10 years!!! Please what ever you do, DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! PLEASE!!! I rather buy you a ticket to the zoo then for you to waste your time with shallow hal. The movie was so shallow in its self. And like the Klumps big time but this movie was not funny at all. I never laughed... Not once thur out this movie. THE VALUE WOULD ONLY LET ME PUT 1 BUT I RATED THIS MOVIE -100 1/2.

Some of you people should stop talking bullshit here! This movie does contain jokes made on fat people, why? Because it wants to show that this is not right! How can you prove that one thing is wrong even without specifying the problem first? Furthermore, this movie shows that not only fat people have been treated unfairly, but also other people. Think about the little girl in the hospital burn unit, when she shows up on the screen the second time, weren't you touched by this scene? You should be unless you are cold-blooded!

I had mixed emotions about seeing this film with all the reviews stating it was making fun of fat people. But after going, was glad that we went! It was extremely funny and Gwyneth was wonderful! It did touch on some touchy, oh don't talk about it subject, but did it in a funny and light hearted way. I think it had an excellent lesson to teach all of us!

In regards to Shallow Hal, I too shop in the 'husky' section. I do not understand the previous negative reviews. I think 'FAT' people have finally found something that they can rally around and call a 'cause.' wake up, it's a movie! Pass me an m&m, Husky and happy!

I cried during this movie and felt humiliated because I am over weight. I am truely hurt when people are treated this way. I was ashamed of my self leaving the theater. If you have any pride and wish to keep it, don't go to this movie if you aren't a perfectly shaped person. For you people who like to pick on people and hurt them you will love this movie.

The comments below seem very very low... Now if you go see this movie expecting to see a serious piece of film, go see something else!! This movie is very funny throught out the whole film. Gwyneth rarely takes bad roles and usually knows what she's doing. In the case of Shallow Hal, she said that she wanted to do something totally different and definetely wanted to have fun. You can surely sense it; as this movie is a great laugh!!

If you're a bleeding heart liberal, you won't like this movie. But, if you can think for yourself and enjoy making fun of life's differences, then you will enjoy this movie. It's a shame that many can't handle this subject matter. I wish people could just relax and have fun. And, this is what this movie does... It relaxes and has fun. That's just great for me!

Shallow Hal is one big fat joke. Just like Eddie Murphy's The Nutty Professor, Shallow Hal pretends to have a sweet, heart-warming and socially responsible message but first makes all the immature, disrespectful and offensive fat jokes that each of us has already heard. By the time the jokes are made, the 'moral' of the story is lost and what we're left with is a motion picture which endorses the ostricization and ridicule of people who happen to be fat. How Original! Shallow Hal's release and mere existence is depressing not only for those who are fat but is destructive to every woman of any size who once again sees in this film the price she will pay mentally, emotionally, spiritually and socially if she dares "let herself go. " Nearly all USAmerican women hate their bodies, fear food, fear fatness, fear 'losing control' of themselves. Shallow Hal is just another enforcement of the ubiquitous, cultural norm that says fat people are filthy, disgusting, slothful circus freaks who will know no love or respect except in 'hilarious' instances of random hypnosis played out in the pop-fiction entertainment of our time. Aren't we proud? I'm infuriated by this film's subject-matter.
