I had great expectations after the first half of the movie because it really was good! But after it just fell apart. I'm not an Ethan Hawke fan and even though he was good as an actor, his character was annoying and I don't know if I was supposed to feel pity for him or not... I didn't, I just though he was an idiot. Gweneth was very sexy in that movie, never saw that side of her... but overall, the story kind of sucks. The title suits the movie well... you have great expectations with the way the story is gonna grow but you end up disappointed. Still worth a rental on a lonely night...

Wow. Very weak. Really a have baked effort on a great Dickens story. Even movie - wise it does not stand up. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the Great Expectations, Directed by David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge on the river Kwai, Oliver Twist) It is issued by Criterion and HVe.

This film is by far the best I have ever had the privilege of watching... of course, it is based from a most impressive story by an incredibly talented writer, charles Dickens... but the movie is excellent as well... I could not have asked to substitute so many of the actors and actresses. Robert DeNiro, without a doubt, dominates his role and no other could have played the role with his same effect... and Gwyneth Paltrow, of course, was the only choice for estella... she obviously proves her talent through his incredible love story... everyone must see it.

Child stars were markedly less stilted than their two older veteran actors. I was totally captivated by the cinematography surrounding their (drinking) fountain scene. Given filmographies of DeNero and Bancroft, more suitable actors couldn't possibly be chosen for their respective parts. Critics panning this film I've found admit not having read the book. Obviously then, a certain intellectual appeal of this present day film adaptation of Dickens novel is lost on them."Moi, " I give it two thumbs way up!

The gorgeous Gwyneth Paltrow is once again remarkable in this love story. She plays the character of Estella beautifully and should be proud of her performance, she is by far the greatest actress ever!!!

This is the most beautiful movie I've seen in my whole life. That explains why it is my all-time favorite motion picture.
