A great Video game to Movie. Tomb Rader was horrible, Final Fantasy was OK, but Resident Evil Rocks!!! A must see for all that love horror/adventure movies, and that played the game.

Don't expect much, but Resident Evil is still a pretty good horror film. There are tons and tons of flaws, but if you just want a fun movie and you don't feel like thinking, go see it. Again, it's not that great a film, but it's scary and a good time.

This movie to me was like a cross between Return of theliving dead and Alien with a few added modern effects.

Hello all, My name is Patrick and I'm a Cinema & Communications student. Hopefully, my opinion will convince you NOT too waste your money on this movie! "Resident Evil" lacked in so many areas. For one the acting was poor by Milla Jovovich (I thought she was great in Fifth Element) , but more importantly, we the audience do not feel a connection with the characters, they all feel rather distant and undevelloped. Secondly, there's way too many "trying to be suspenseful moments! " A few worked, but most of them didn't. And finally, the soundtrack for this film was way too loud and overpumped, a sad attempt to add excitement to the film. However, although most of my comments were negative, I am a addict of the resident evil video games. I thought the makeup and costumes of the zombies were well done, and the action was decent (but in my opinion, anything less then Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon action fighting doesn't impress me) In conclusion, I suggest you don't waste your money on this film if you have high expectations for a action packed flick. Take your girlfriend to see "Amelie" she'll love it, and deep down you will too. Laterzzz. P.S. email me with your comments if you want!

Excellent... I am Impressed. I expected it to be one of those movies that spoils the movie by seeing the trailers, I enjoyed the effects and the overall movie. I do have a feeling there will be a part 2...

It's a movie you see if you want to get scared and not by pointless hacksaw, hockey mask psychos. It has a plot and they respect the game. It's defintely good.

Why would anyone go see this movie? Would it be because of the intense action? The incredible musical score? The disturbingly realistic make-up and special effects? The strong writing that's delivered by a well chosen cast? How about the fact that this movie was (for lack of a better term) shocking? I went to the theatre having played all the PSx games and with a firm knowledge of all their stories. The film didn't have the "Hollywood Machine" pushing it down our throats with over-advertising, trailers that give away everything, and a cast that is pure cut-n-paste. Instead, the movie producers took a low profile approach. Anybody remember a little movie called "The Matrix"? It came out in the shadow of "Star Wars: Episode I", and had a simple trailer that left you wanting to know... Everything. Resident Evil had the same approach, it has a diminutive trailer that only shows the characters faces and one (albeit extreme) action movement. The true power of this movie is found in 3 aspects:-1) The Cast: Being made up of relative unknowns and actors that have always followed, (with the exception of Mila Jovovich) never lead, it was brilliant when they were melded as an ensemble and allowed to devolope their own characters. -2) The Effects: There isn't much that can be said other than you have to see it to believe it. Unlike previous... Undead (I use that term under protest, because of the company it could be related to) films, the individuals are all unique and horrifying. Much like comparing the original "Planet of the Apes" make-up and effects to Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes. It's unfair to compare any previous "Zombie movie" to Resident Evil. -3) The Score: I am a huge Metal music fan... But Marilyn Manson isn't near the top of my list. I've never been a fan. But I'll have to admit that he has found his calling. The music score to Resident Evil took the movie from common suspense to intense, moving and screaming terror. When the music would suddenly calm, or dissapear, the entire audience would coil up and await the release, which was usually in the form of screaming. I try to judge movies based on content and mass reaction. With Resident Evil, I found everything in proportion and well executed. As for those who have a need to devalue this film because of its lack of bloody encounters... Seek help, immediately.

[...] I must say I generally love these kind of movies and would never complain to watch some action since I've seen chick flicks the last 8 or 9 times out, but this movie simply SUCKED. Everything about it was horrible! Special effects were extremely weak (I have no clue why they're being touted so much) No plot at all. Terrible acting. Bad action sequences. Bad music. And all the "thrills" were really stupid and cheesy. Terrible! Horrible! Save your money! This is pure GARBAGE.

This movie is a must see if you are a resident evil fan. It follows the same guidelines like the resident evil series that keeps you on the edge of your seet with suspence. Truly my favorite sceen is the one where the dogs come out. The only thing that bothered me about the movie was the quick way they dispatched all of the really cool looking dogs.

Well resident evil is a fiction horror movie and I would like to clear all those people who are saying the movie has no plot and it's a waste of money... so dear friends first when you see fiction movie it means the movie is about which is not true to our lives... its only to entertain people or show some good action sceanes... and I must say resident evil have all these qualities... and there is someone is saying he or she didnt understand (When the virus broke free inside the hive, all the employees got infected by air. But then when the team entered into the hive, they will only get infected by wounds.).. it's bcuz the effect of the virus in open air is only for 2 hours in that hive... after that the only way to get infected is if they get any wound or scar... so I ll say go and see the movie again with your open eyes and ears also! And if you notice every single sceane in fiction movies and compare it with reality so there is no use to watch these kind of movies cuz as I said it's not true to our lives... well folks I must recomend this movie cuz I liked it and I have intrest in horor movies maybe that's the reason I liked it and it's a great movie not to be missed! :-) thanx..

Interesting movie. Not the best plot, some things were just not logical but the effects were very good. I just don't get 1 thing... why does always someone survive? For the sequel? Or just because the girl is cute?

I thought this movie was everything a horror zombie movie could be... ok, the fact that the movie had lack of deep characters and a misleading plot could turn off some of the older folks... but it was a thrill ride that reached it's goal to scare! As for the zombies... ofcourse the topic of flesh-eating dead people feeding on the new, didn't make much sense... and even though I am a game-player... these creatures were extremely cool. This movie full filled the whole zombie needs!!! CRAZY im seeing it again!

Resident Evil is a thrilling addition to action/horror genre. Milla Jovovitch is a highly watchable update to the gun moll as she kicks serious zombie butt. There is a gruesome forboding which hangs precipitously over this movie and is served extremely well by it's postindustrial production design.

I liked the movie. Personaly I would have liked to see more walking dead and more gore as the game depicts but they did a wonderfull job. There are not too many special affects and that, to me, is a good thing. They often get carried away. The sequel will be amazing!!!

What's wrong with this movie? Were you people not scared? It scared the s*** out of me, and I see movies every day... Wasn't it intense enough? It was non stop action and quite tensed whenever the pace was slower... And what's the problem with the plotline? I bet the skeptical among you who said it didn't make sense all have Masters and PhDs in molecular biochemistry or genetic engineering!!! Guess not... Well I don't, but I know it makes sense anyway (as far as fiction goes...)

A nice rendition of one of the best video game series' of all time. The director did an excellent job bringing the horror and suspense of the game to the big screen. However, there was not much content to the characters and storyline. Resident Evil is basically just a mindless-fun film.

Oh Gosh! I don't understand either why this movie has such a high rating. If you think about it, the plot does not make any sense. When the virus broke free inside the hive, all the employees got infected by air. But then when the team entered into the hive, they will only get infected by wounds. And if the zombies were only driven by their very own instincts, why would they not bite out of themselves. The scenes tried to frigthen the audience with senseless little matters but unsuccessfully, it was way too over-killed. Furthermore, there're some scenes of unnessary nudity. Only go see this movie for two reasons: either you're a big fan of Resident Evil, or you'll got paid for viewing it.

Ok... I'm 25 and I have NEVER been one to be squeemish but this movie disturbed me. The previews that were shown for this flick were misleading to say the least. I didn't know that it was a video game so maybe that was my problem but that's no excuse. What happened to the people that rate these movies? 13 and over? I don't think so... It was very disturbing to see a film like Resident Evil rated as 13 and over. Imagine what could happen if a teenager went to see this movie! It freaked me out! The story line made no sense whatsoever. Just when I thought that I was beginning to understand the whole point of the stupid movie, they would go and confuse me with a stupid twist. As for the acting... well let's just say there was a lack-of skills. I do have to admit that there were two great scenes of Milla Jovovich kicking some butt but besides that, you see the same scenes over and over again. Basically, don't waste your time seeing this movie and don't let your kids go watch it.

Resident Evil was an excellent movie, its visual effects were great as well as the music. Most of the scenes made evryone jump almost every two seconds. My Heart didn't stop beating either!!! It really stook to the video game storyline. I was as freaked out as ahile playing the games and also was freaked out while watching the movie! The Soundtrack is also great, I downloaded all of it... you should too! There's gonna be a sequel, it's gonna be awesome! So all in all everyone should see this movie because it some of the best movies I've seen in a long time!

Well, not great of a movie. Considering the effects and the constant trying to scare you, thrilling scene (which you beecome numb to at the end) , it is not too bad for one of "those" movies. The story line was ok, it is interesting how they did achieve the sense of a video game as the movie progressed. Anyhow, not bad for a ok rental movie.

If you're an adult-STAY AWAY. 2002 and we're still making movies like this? I don't understand what on earth was so good about this film. EVERYONE has raved about it here on this post and then it hit me... Look at the age of the critics. GEEZ. 13-17. This film is Soooo riduculous, I didn't even know it was a video game at first... I can't believe I was talked into it. For those of you with a moderate education and some basic intellegence... STAY AWAY. Rent a video instead! Money In The Garbage serves better usage.

This move was pretty kick ass. The effects were cool and it was pretty freaky. It was much like a video game where, you get a basic overview and then all the action takes place, rather than intricate character development. I went with my girlfriend, and she was scared so I'd like to go again, and see it without having all the circulation in my arm being cut off. Go see it..
