I rented it today and watched it a few hours ago. Believe me, people who are scared of spiders shouldn't watch it. I learned my lesson from that, but the commercials made the movie look good. So I decided to rent it anyway. It's not that scary, it was more disgusting. What scared me was the spiders! *goosebumps.

This movie is in the same vein as Tremors. Man vs. Creatures created by contamination. It is funny, scary and knows how to poke fun at itself.

Good spoof on the old b/w b-movies. I kinda like the screechy sounds of yester-generation though. Woulda been ruined if they tried to take the genre seriously. Many laughs were had. Good movie.

Good tunes, good times. I just don't understand why it was called 8-legged freaks. Actually, I bet it had something to do with the spiders.

Excellent, and an enjoyable funny and disgusting movie at the same time. Just imagine a huge spider just jumping and attacking you in order to impress their queen and of course you die! I loved it. It deserves to be seen again and again and again and again...

I thought this was a great movie. A really good idea for kids, but not too young. I think I like David Arquette in a more comedic role, nonetheless he was still good in this movie.

My husband had to practically drag me to see this and he picked our wedding anniversary to do so!!! However I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only did I laugh until my sides split but actually jumped out of my seat a few times. A definite go see for light fun entertainment on a hot summer afternoon. Delightful acting and special effects are well done.

Hi. I saw this movie and I thought it was great. So many parts were funny and at the same time so many parts were freaky. David Arquette may not be doing huge movies, but this movie wouldn't have been right without him. And the boy in the movie did an excellent performance. I suggest you go see this movie, it will scare you and make you laugh.

Yes, you have to dumb down to fully appreciate this movie. If you go into it expecting anything serious, well, you get what you deserve... But... If you like mindless entertainment and aren't expecting anything else, this bit of fluff certainly can entertain. As a spoof of 1950's vintage 'B' grade monster movies, this movie is darn decent. In that context, it deserves an 8 out of 10 in my book.

I'm tired of hearing people compare this movie to Tremors. Tremors was a great movie. It was a B movie, sure, but it didn't go out of its way to remind us of that. Tremors had genuine suspense and some not-half-bad actors like Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward and Reba McEntire... okay, so Reba McEntire was a bad example. Nonetheless, Eight-Legged Freaks has David Arquette, a true thespian if ever there was one. Anyways, the acting is unimportant. What is wrong with this movie is the fact that it goes out of its way to be cheesy, somewhat defeating the purpose. Old B movies were never meant to be cheesy, they just had low budgets and so could not hire the best directors, writers, special effects people, etc. This movie is saturated in special effects. Computer graphics are used almost as much as the latest Star Wars movie (not to knock Star Wars, by the way) The spiders look phony and are not scary in the slightest. In all fairness, the first forty minutes or so of the movie are actually pretty good. We get the setup, the introduction of the characters, then the first few incidents involving the spiders. Later, the film is just overrun with the monsters to the point where you start relishing the scenes without them. Now, I come to the worst point: the sound. Not only does the soundtrack sound like it was lifted right out of Home Alone, but the noises emitted by the spiders are just plain stupid. Aside from the mandatory roaring, hissing and squealing, the spiders sometimes sound like a baby coughing, or a baby giggling, or my favourite: the uh-oh. Just really bad. It doesn't even try to be scary and that's the problem. If anything, it is a lame spoof of B-movies, and if the first third of the movie wasn't so good, it probably would have received a 3, but thankfully it does have some mérit in the first act.

While not as good as the ultimate B-movie creature features such as Tremors and Romero's Night of the Living Dead, it is still twice as effective as Devlin/Emmerich's last monster outing, Godzilla '98. It seems the four year hiatus from the big screen has wisened them up quite a bit, and I think with Freaks they've learned from their past mistakes. Instead of simply creating a movie around special effects like in Godzilla, and trying to be a serious A-movie even with its bare bones plot and cheesy dialogue, the creators opted to put the characters first this time around, after the spiders of course. The dialogue is still B-Movie corny, but in an ironic twist, the characters often acknowledge that fact, and point out some well known cliches of a typical B-movie (and some A-Movies for that matter) For instance, when David Arquette inquires about what the spider-obssessed kid had found in the mine, the kid decided not to and said no one ever believes the kid. Which is true when you think about it. I actually enjoyed most of the characters in this flick, from the balding accident-prone deputy, the radio host with the fear of anal probes, the money grubbing ostrich farming mayor, the lovely yet tough and resourceful sheriff, and even David Arquette's everyman, armed with his manic catchphrases and a 12-gauge. What really makes this movie shine is the hilarious reactions that the townsfolk have when confronted with the eight legged monsters. Even the spiders are comical, mainly because of the little chirps and "uh-ohs" they emit when they're about to be squished. All in all, a very fun blend of action, comedy, horror, adventure and special effects. Also, if you're at all worried about the special effects getting in the way of your enjoyment, fear not. The special effects are perfectly integrated and blend well with the environment, and it's hardly distracting at all. I recommend this flick to anybody thirsting for a good, solid and fun summer popcorn flick.

This movie falls to the trend we've been seeing lately--the moviemakers are depending on the special effects to distract the audience from the fact that there is absolutely no plot or character development. Now, I realize this is a "summer popcorn movie" of sorts, but this movie is so shallow that I don't think anyone over the age of 6 could ever maintain the necessary amount of suspension of disbelief. This movie is crap. Avoid it like it was a giant spider coming to eat you. In fact, I would rather fight one of the spiders than be forced to see it again.

"Eight Legged Freaks is a modern take on the "big bug" B-movies of the 50s ("Them", "Tarantula", etc.) , only with better FX. In and of itself, and on its own terms, "Eight Legged Freaks" is a minor masterpriece, as it takes all the B-movie cliches ("Nobody ever listens to the kid! ") and either stands them on their heads, or truns them insde out. The performances by the enitre cast, are spot on for this kind of movie, and they are wrking with a script that can only be conisdered a work of demented genius. As long as they keep making movies like "Tremors" and "Eight Legged Freaks", the spirit of the B-movie will never die.

It's Drive-In movie night without the Drive-In! Classic B movie campiness abounds in this New Millenium take on an Old Classic: the Giant Monster Invasion flick! Run for the hills as Giant Radioactive Spiders invade a small desert town, hungry for humans! The story is minimal, but its better that way, more time for action! The acting is also rather weak, but you wont get an Academy Award for running from Monsters. So whats good about it? The Spiders! Wow, I work in computer animation and these are done so very well, amazing! Add a little bit of comedic voice (think Gremlins) give them personality and character, and they steal the film. Seriuosly they are worth the price of admission alone and you see them often, especially near the end. Overall I will not tell you much, but if you want pure eye candy enjoyment and the warm fuzzy feeling you get when watching retro rehash films then go see this movie. Eight Legged Freaks is un-pretentious fun, plain and simple.

Ok people, this is it... Gremlins meets Arachnaphobia... There are a bit too many jumping spider scenes, but asides from that, we lauged the whole way through... This is not a movie that attempts to take itself seriously, it's just out there havin' a good time, as should you. And remember, spiders with personalities can be hilarious!

One note : If you don't like Cheesee monster/Spider flick don't even think about it. Well, here we got our typical Biohazard stuff barel that goes into a pond and mutate a bunch of spiders type of movie. This movie is completly Comic Book style in every way. Some scene has so much spider doing thing in the screen that you can't see them all on the first screening, and the "Spider in a Tent" scene was too much for me, I just laughed hard and almost cry. If you want a see a movie with a lot of spiders (fully Comic Book Style) and have a good laught this is a good one, don't take any minutes of this movie seriously please it's just a funny ride (more than MIB2 IMHO)..

Wel it wasn't much as a "SCARY" movie, only a couple of unsuspected jumps. But it also has humor in it which I found out was quite interesting if you're bored and have nothing to do, watch it or rent it later.

First of all, don't expect a masterpiece because it sure isn't close to that. However this is a good movie and worth seeing (preferably on a tuesday or a wenesday...) I was expecting a horrible piece of trash (which we seem to be getting quite a lot recently) , but no, I came out and felt that I had seen what I expected from the previews. Althought this is as B as a B-movie can get, the special effects are great, the spiders are very cool and for once the crappy love story (which is typical from a Rolland Emmerich production) is kept rather short and simple. I recommend this movie for those whom hate (or love) spiders or for those who enjoy good old-fashioned horror movies. (And by the way... it's much better than Arachnophobia)

If you liked "Tremors" with Kevin Bacon (remember that movie?) then you'll like this one. It's got a bit of action, suspense, thrills and laughs. Not the best movie I've seen, but then again, with a title like "Eight Legged Freaks", I think the producers of the film were trying to ride on the coat-tails of Spiderman. If you must pay to see a movie (~10-12$ per person these days) , see something else. This one's a rental movie, especially on the 2 for 1 nights.
