Good but I expected better. Too much empty poetry and you could guess to much of the investigation that they were on. But I didn't fall asleep so it gets a 6 on chemistry alone.

I absolutly LOVED this movie! I was captivated from beginning to end. This is definitely a chick flick and makes the 'ol heart go pitter patter. I taped it and it will be one of the few that I will cherish.

Todays, human race knows which we are missing some of our humanhood behaviour cause of machine-life. But this movie remeber us that the love's fire is still living somewhere inside of our body. The possession rember us the value of the life one more time. Don't miss it. Anoushirvan Mohammadzade student of pharmacy Ankara, Turkey.

Although it was a little fancy for me, this movie was well written and acted. Definitely not for everyone, though... as the man who was sitting in front of me SNORING would attest to!

Labute is one of my favorite filmmaker and here he does deliver again. This film is romance at his purest form. The cinematography, the acting, the direction and the period costumes make this film one of my favorites so far this year. I am all smiles since seeing this film.

Definitely worth seeing. With this cast, it must be good. I noticed there are some comments that the book is 10x better. Well this message to you all: The movie was good enough for me to go out and buy the book, which I am reading now. So far, the movie is standing up..

I can understand some of the negative comments people have made towards this film, about the supposed lack of chemistry between Paltrow and Eckhart but I believe it is intentional as a reflection of the state love and relationships in these modern times... The fear of getting hurt and the reluctance to enter into a potentially fruitless union. It is in the love story between the two victorian lovers, conveyed with an acheing beauty we don't see much of in hollywood films that I believe we are meant to feel. As the two contempoary researchers delve deeper into the victorian lovers past they are swept up in the rapture of thier burning love that they yearn to experience themselves. It is always the issue of trust however that holds them back, or has one or the other sometimes both simultaneously bolting out the door. The lackadaisical attitude towards love and intimacey is a continuios repellant but just a shield that the modern day couple affront each other with. But in the end they are aware that unlike the lovers in the past they in the present have the freedom to live the life and love of their own choosing. And well if nothing else, I have been turned onto an amazing writer. A. S. Byatt.

I had read the book and now seen the movie too... Neil LaBute has done beautiful work with cutting back and forth between the two romances... and while it is a little hard to accept Paltrow and Eckhert as scholars, the movie is worthwhile... and as for LaBute being sued for inappropriate use of Byatt's work, we'll see about that...

If you like romantic films, this one will put you to sleep. If you're not a romanticist, don't even bother. Very slow and very very boring.

This movie was a complete waste of intellectual time. Gwyneth Paltrow does the same thing to this movie as she did to Dickens's "Great Expectations" - she demonstrates how tragically pathetic the idea of making a piece of outstanding literary fiction into a film. If you have read the book, ditch the movie, for not only does it mess up the entire story and plot of the text, but it also fails in its film editing. Go see something else. If you enjoy this movie, its probably because you have never read the book.

This movie was an example of what happens when people take a complicated literary novel and try to turn it into something palatable to the average Hollywood fan: they make it SUCK! As I've read the book, I especially found it to be a travesty as they managed to entirely remove all nuance and meaning from the text in translating it to the screen. Even if I hadn't read the book, however, I would have been disappointed as the movie is short, quite dull, uninteresting and totally not compelling. Plus, some of the production values are shoddy, in particular the editing. Why does Gwyneth Paltrow have a lovely tan halfway through? Why do they cut in a scene that was clearly supposed to go with one twenty minutes earlier in the film? Why? What were they thinking when they made this brutally awful flick?

I thought this was a charming movie. A tale of the modern blending with the a drama of the past. I do like Gwyneth Paltrow and her posh accent... a perfect English rose. The American was quite refreshing to watch... nothing brash or vulgar, just a proper"Gentleman".. with sticky fingers... The Victorian love drama... reminicent of a Thomas hardy novel... Altogether.. a wonderful movie for those of us who enjoy a misty eyed story...

Excellent would not be enough to describe this movie... in this time of non-sense and empty action american movies, this proves that there are still those who, whether actors or film makers, who don't just care about how much money will go into their pockets.. (note that this film is produced by a few americans, who have become the exception of the artless greedy so-called american film makers). and mind you, it's not all about a sappy love story, rather it's more like a bronte classic... In short, this film is a masterpiece, reminding us of how fine art should be..

This has got to be the worst adapted film version of a book I have ever seen. If you did not read the book, go for it and you might just enjoy the film. If you have read the book - FORGET IT. Roland is supposed to be British - not American. And the American jokes were of bad nature. Maude is supposed to be excentric, with a turban, always wearing green. The love between them does not happen so quickly. What the hell happened to Val's character in the book? This is to say that they entirely ruined the book and if I were A. S. Byatt, I would sue them.

I saw this movie the other day and thought it was going to be one of those cheezy love stories where everyone lives happily ever after. But actually I found it quite good. Gwenyth Paltrow was excellent. It was extremely well put together. It's a definite movie to go see on the weekend. I give it two thumbs up.

This movie was very breath taking, I don't usually love the sappy movies, but this one was very good, Paltrow and Eckhart have a chemistry... Go to the movie and see for yourself one great love story, it's about time.
