This is the best movie that Adam Sandler has ever done! Great acting, great story and great directions. The movie was very intense and even somewhat scary. The movie leaves off with a message for everyone.

One of my top 20 alltime. It is a beautiful love story with stellar performances by Sandler, the divine Emily Watson, the fabulous Hoffman and brilliant directing by PT Anderson. I understand that most typical hollywood movie goers aren't gonna like it, but some of us don't like typical hollywood movies and this film is for us. Poor ratings for this film are from people who wouldnt know a good film from a hole in the ground.

There are a lot of details in this movie that can easily be viewed as distractions - or even worse, as flakey, art-for-art's-sake pretension. The majority of people I've spoken to who have hated this film - because it's a film that elicits an impressively bipolar reaction from audiences, love or hate - seem to hate it because of the admittedly weird fluff with which the director chose to pepper the storytelling. I'll admit to this fact: If I hadn't known to pay attention before even stepping into the theatre, I may have felt the same way. So here is my warning and advice to all you viewers lucky enough to be going into this experience for the first time:Pay attention. The psychadellic, groovey '70's lightshow that mysteriously punctuates scene transitions? Watch how it changes along with Adam Sandler's character's development? Those Weird, inappropriate burst of anger? Keep in mind what happened a second before. Imagine the times you felt that way yourself. It all adds up in the end, and taken in context, is one of the most moving and romantic stories of new love you'll see on the screen. See, the trimming in this movie, the excesses, are necessary because of the character. Adam Sandler's character is chock full of weird neuroses, and as such, the film's style reflects the character. But pay attention: It's a story about loving oneself as well as getting the girl, and how they're a symbiotic relationship. It's about learning to channel your faults into something that benefits you, when those faults can very easily destroy you. It's about letting go and holding on at the same time, and it's worth your time... and attention..

If you are a regular movie watcher you will not understand this movie. This is for people who can open their minds to different ideas and concepts in life. I actually sat and watched this whole movie without movie, 'cause I enjoyed it soo much... best movie I have seen in a long time. Adam and Emily did a great jobs in both of their roles. Especially Adam, who brought out the characteristics of panic attacks, anxiety, depression all in one. I think one of his best roles yet... the love aspect awesome, cause it's not some oh I love you jump on me have sex type of thing... its soo honest clean and pure... very nice movie.

WOW! This movie has become my all time favorite movie of all time. The people who gave this movie low ratings are the ones that do not understand movies. They are the kind of people that only have the intellegence for "Dumb and Dumber". This movie is so smart that you wonder what kind of person could put it together. Only a genius like P. T. Anderson. This movie is very Dark and Lovely at the same time. The music is outstanding, the cinematogrophy is very unique and is it touched by a rainbow of color and light throughout the film which make it more quirky and "punchy". Even if you say you dont like the movie, it will be one you will never forget, which tells you right there how powerful it is. So dont waste your time if you're a dumb kid looking for an annoying spoof like the other Sandler movies. But if you like movies... real movies like "Magnolia", "Forrest Gump", and "Dancer in the Dark" check this one out. It's the Best Picture of the Year!

You call this a movie? There's no plot... no ending... just one sick man... not even worth renting it for a cent... Adam Sandler, come on you can do better then that... Writer, Director WAKE UP! According to me, this movie stunk. Of course this is just my opinion so if you like this type of situation then don't hesitate to see it and make your own opinion.

WOW! This movie was amazing. Although it was very different from the kinds of movies Sandler usually participates in, this was profound, thought provoking, and truly mezmorizing. There were so many hidden layers of meaning that made it so much unlike the regular 'hollywood" movie. For someone who wants to immerse themselves in a dynamic world, watch this movie. For others who like light puffs, this may not be very interesting to watch.

I can see why this movie wouldn't appeal to the masses. It's a story about a person suffering from social anxiety disorder and feeling depressed about life in general. Nobody wants to watch a depressing full of humiliation movie. I, on the other hand, suffer from the same disorder, and I was amazed at how authentically Sandler acted the role of an SAD sufferer. He did things that nobody know about except for people who have the same disorder. I was impressed by how the director knew about all of those SAD behaviours and embarrasing situations. He must have done his research well. Music was a big aspect in the movie's greatness, and so were sound effects. I really enjoyed the tunes of the music, and I really got engaged more because of the sound effects. Last, but not least, I can understand how those cut scenes that were filled with rainbowish colors didn't appeal to the masses either. They are art, and a very refind kind of art that very few people appreciate. That doesn't mean in any way that people who don't appreciate that kind of art are dumb. But, I'm just trying to say that this kind of art is known to have less popularity than say the art of doing scenes in the Matrix. I hope my review enlightened those of you who haven't seen the movie yet, and gave an idea of what to expect.

Punch Drunk-Love is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my entire life. The musical score (IF you want to call it that) was TERRIBLE. It gave me a headache. I wanted to take my shoes off and throw them at the television, then grab a gun and shoot myself. The film just was not fun. It was extremely boring, moreso than an "Animal Planet" Documentary on the life of the Water Buffalo. The colors that were supposed to look "cool" just looked stupid. This is not the 60's. Television has changed- you could've found something better to tie in the scenes than stupid flashy colors. The camera handling is awful... Often times going down long corridors and making very dizzying movements. This film was hard to watch... and the Masochistic-ness of it made me cringe. [...] Don't waste your time. This movie was NOT funny. It was not fun. It was not even in the "okay" category."Tron" was a better movie than this. Save yourself from the torture and rent a good movie- such as "The Recruit"...

Just a message to all of Adam Sandler's fans, if you are expecting the usual funny stupid humour that he usually does, do not rent this movie, because you will not enjoy it. I love Adam Sandler movies and I just absolutely loved this movie, I knew before I watched what to expect. I thought it was a brillant movie, the director has made some great movies and this was one of them.

Adam Sandler really excelled in this movie by P. T. Anderson which finally focuses on a single character, a moderately successful business man dominated by the women siblings in his family, who's looking for masculine independence. However women are not the problem. The music symbolism, from a console player he appropriates lost on the road nearby, presents the love theme that helps him discover his life in the business world is what's leading him to disaster."Punch Drunk Love" makes it clear that love is short lived when it relies on money, making a dangerous combination. Maybe Anderson's most interesting picture.

I couldn't believe that I paid $10 to go watch this movie. I wouldn't even go for free after watching this. I'm a simple type of person so I like movies that are not too complicated. What kind of romantic movie is this when the guy says something "you're so pretty I want to smash your face with a sledge hammer." Unless you like that then you would like this movie. This movie is just way out there. Very big disappointment since I'm a fan of Adam Sandler. He's trying to be like Tom Hanks but I rather Adam sticks with comedy.

I think that this movie was THE WORST MOVIE ever!!! With all the flashes of color, how were you supposed to follow the plot? Oh wait THERE WAS NO PLOT!! I just used the color times for bathroom breaks. You people are psycho if you think this movie was even half good. It was a true low in Adams Sandlars career. He used to be great but now I just can't see him the same way. Thinking about that movie makes me want to scream, shout, vomit, gag, and sleep all at the same time. I think this is one of the greatest movies ever made. The emotions you feel when in love are so well portrayed in this movie. ANd the symbols, tricks and hidden messages used in the movie are great. The piano, the suit, the music, etc. The editing, the directing, acting. Such a great movie.

I went to this movie, hoping that it will lighten up my mood a bit... boy, was I wrong. This is just stupid, a waste of time and money. I came out more depressed and with a headache to boot. Moreover, I don't think intelligence have anything to do with understanding the movie, don't listen to those people who think otherwise. They're just in a world of their own. The truth is, this movie has so much intelligent detail embedded in the production that none of us could catch it all. The way sound is used makes you feel the main character's alientation - his world is by turns empty and overwhelming. I thought Adam Sandler was great.

Unusual and ground-breaking works are often mistunderstood and disliked by the masses (see, now cliche, artist Vincent VanGogh, etc, etc) Over time we will see that this film is very important. This movie is fantastic. You DO need a high IQ to appreacite it. I am sorry to say that, it sounds pretentious, but it really is true. Don't go to this film with typical expectations. See this movie with an open mind. The film is more about character development than it is about plot development.

First of all, I don't want to hear all of the people giving it a 10 going "Go watch Billy Madison" or "You need a high IQ to watch this film." That is just degrading. I went into this film with an open mind. I didn't expect a typical Adam Sandler movie and I do like independent films. I don't want to be classified under "Stupid American who likes mindless films." As I said, I went into this with an open mind, and was very disappointed. The lens flare was like "clever" than "extremely annoying." I do think some of the shots were planned with care, but overall I was not impressed with the filming aspect. Scenes just didn't cut at crucial times (When they walk in Hawaii for over a minute not exchanging dialogue... not up against a beautiful background... just filler) I didn't even find the acting amazing as everyone said. There was no character development, all were flat. At the end of the movie nothing was learned, nothing changed, and nothing even made sense. I know there doesn't have to be a plot, but there was nothing... that's the best way to describe it. I don't believe that I am even spending more of my time to write this review. I was extremely PO'ed when I left the theater, a feeling I seldom get from a movie. Please save your money and if you can see it for free, then just save your time.

I found "Punch Drunk Love" some what disappointing. PT Anderson's last two movies "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia" were captivating. Both movies presented characters that were provocative and interesting. The plot was engaging and complex. I wonder if Anderson wrote "Punch Drunk Love" while flossing his teeth one day because it was definitely not as indepth or interesting as his past movies. Clocking at only 1 hour 45 minutes, "Punch Drunk Love" seemed to have sold itself short. Adam Sandler's perfomance is like a sedated Happy Gilmore. There's still some anger and violence left in him but since there's not much motivating him, the charcter fails to be compelling. Emily Watson's character appeared to be just filler. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I was just really hoping for another masterpiece like "Magnolia".

I expected to love this film. What I will say is that I like Adam Sandler more after seeing this movie, which isn't saying much. It is and isn't typical Adam Sandler fare. He is playing the same sort of character, except he's playing it straight. The total acceptance and even "oh isn't he cute' attitude to a character who is a violent sociopath is scary. Their love is not redemptive, when they are in bed I was cringing. In fact after meeting her his violence escalates. Furthermore, the writing is awful. I could not get past just how terrible the writing is. I like off beat/quirky/experimental films, ones that are in fact intelligent and innovative. This is not one of those films. This film is confused and throughout it seemed that I was supposed to be in awe of how brilliant it is when it just isn't. Yes it looks good and some scenes are great to watch as isolated scenes, but they just didn't all work together. All flash and no substance. Yes, I get the significance of the harmonium, but throwing in a quirky symbol does not make something intelligent. Anybody can think up quirky symbols. Using it fully and expanding the symbol along with such basic elements as plot, character etc. In all directions does.

Have you ever seen what you considered to be a good movie, but not enjoyed it? That was my reaction to this one. I didn't like it at all, but when I look back at it objectively: the story was different, the acting was good and the filming was, for my taste, above average. The problem was I hated the characters, and the story made me uncomfortable. This is a very black and somewhat disturbing "comedy" and it is certainly not standard Adam Sandler. As you can see from the reviews people either love it or hate it. (two of my colleagues thought it was amazing, so what can I say)
