User's review

A violent film without a captivating plot or character development. A silly attempt at playing with ideas from Spaghetti Westerns, Kung Fu movies, Samurai warriors and Japanese gangland anime cartoons. Stupid minimal script with pathetic attempts at humour. No suspense, no drama and no plot. It's saved only by incredible artsy Japanese settings. But If you're hoping to see an evolution in spectacular acrobatic fighting like in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, forget it. The only spectacle in this film is blood spraying from severed body parts. Maybe that's why it was released just in time for Halloween, in good company with all the other blood-splattered slasher movies. Despite the vacuous message it delivers, Tarantino deserves a passing grade for stylish cinematography..
