User's review

A rare gem of a film in the summer which is usually dominated by Hollywood garbage aimed at today's generation of the young and mindless. I notice in the few reviews posted here, that members of the 50+ aged audience gave 'Door in the Floor' a high rating while those under 25 trashed it. This is a film for adults dealing with complex relationship problems, a theme that is dark and difficult to digest, even for mainstream adults. How can teenagers possibly understand and evaluate it? I can fully appreciate the story which is quite common in the world of artists. Those who saw Jackson Pollock a few years ago do not have to be convinced of the abnormal life that exists in the creative community. Other than the captivating psychological drama I also enjoyed the relaxing ocean beach setting, a refreshing change of scenery from the usual fare of city violence, loud soundtracks and special effects. Thank you Tod Williams and John Irving for the intelligent treat!
