I HAVE to give it an 8 because... Well it's Miyazaki! He's just awesome! But um... well story-wise maybe it deserves a 7. For some reason I was expecting so much more after Spirited Away (which blew me away) There were some long moments... true. But it's just the romance part was a little... odd. It got a little too cheesy and I guess I wasn't used to that, especially concerning Hayao Miyazaki. It's still worth seeing though. Beautiful scenery.

For all those who love animation, this is the best film ever made! It make a lot of difference from the boring digital Disney movies. The story is very original, well illustrated and simply spellbinding! A must see for anime otakus and animation fans! Miyazaki's best after Nausicaä and the Valley of the Wind! ^^.

I was looking forward to this movie when I saw the trailers in April. I was kinda iffy on seeing it in English but... I adored it. I loved the story line and even though the movie was two hours long it really didn't feel like it. Sure it left you hanging on a few things but many asian films do that anyways. It was funny and it didn't drag at all. It's funny and at times really serious and even sad. Howl was adorable and really funny and the old lady version of Sophie was a really lovable character.

Visually stunning, yet the story is not as interesting as Spirited Away. Nevertheless, it has been a while since there has been a good Anime, worth seeing, especially on the big screen.

Miyazaki continues to create incredible worlds, with a mix of magic, history, and futurism. His secondary characters almost steal the show with their unusual design. The artwork is just beautiful and the story is enchanting. Go see it now matter what your age.

Not one of miyazaki's masterpieces but the fantasy was enough to keep me thoroughly entertained. There were few twists and turns, and the ending seemed a weak throw-together. Still, we love studio ghibli!

This was one of the best movie I ever saw. Hayao Miyazaki did a great jod directing this movie. The anime is stunningly beautiful and the acting is incredible. Not to mention that following the rythme of a japennese anime is extremely hard because the japannnese talk very fast. I strongly recommend this movie along with the two other masterpieces by Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away & Princess Mononoke. GO SEE IT NOW!!! ^_^.

Howls Moving Castle is vastly entertaining, full of just about everything. Thoughtful messages; if you are interested in history, mythology and how we think, this film is for you. Funny, light hearted even in the face of evil, complex but well told, full of metaphors. Obvious reference to our history of wars, but the war machines are whimsical or even silly without playing down their horrible intent. Death and dying are figurative but danger and evil are real, as are trust, innocence, and forgiveness. Adults will enjoy it, but there is a message for the mature among us of all ages that denial ages us, makes us feel pain, makes us feel old, while trust and wonder make us youthful, make us experience beauty. A glimpse, a disturbing suggestion of how powerful people entertain themselves, relevant to today. Duty and loyalty are very evident, reflecting the land of origin and its history (Japan) But the fanciful and funny are always nearby, even in the most serious parts. The castle has a fascinating dial-a-world gadget, a new twist on the transformational and magical. The fate of the witch is to grow up and experience truth which includes her humanity, and we find out that we can have both heart and energy. See it!

One of the best animated movies that I have seen in a long time, excellent plot and characters. Billy Crystal as Calcifer was amazing, kept you laughing, yet at points you wanted to cry for the characters and the hardships that are presented in the film. I strongly suggest going to see this film, it has quickly became a favorite of mine.

Being a fan of the book, I was disapointed at the changes in the plot. I think the original story would also have had a lot of potential as a screenplay. However, the movie stands on its own. Miyazaki (along with his enormous crew of animators) has once again produced alot of stunning animation, a comical little group of characters, and an intensely moving plot. The war content does seems to have been increased quite a bit, no doubt due to current world events. The voices weren't he usual high pitched, mile-a-minute, japanese replacements, which was generally an improvement. Though personally, I think he should have skipped using Billy Crystal. I seem to remember Calcifer being more soft-spoken. But maybe it's just me. I think you will really enjoy the movie, especially if you have not read the book. But if you haven't, do read it, and its sequel (castle in the air), and then go on and read the rest of Diana Wynne Jones' books. She deserves some popular recognition at last.

I personally adore everything Miyazaki has done and Howl's Moving Castle is no exception. The visuals are superb, the plot exciting and the casting for the English voice actors was great. A real little gem hiding in the ocean of mediocre films out there.

Heart warming. I've always loved the peaceful music, the colour of the picture and the magical story of Miazaki's film. This one is just another masterpiece! Worth watching a second time!

This is a brilliant movie that will appeal to every age group and interest. Don't be put off that the director is Japanese, as the themes are universal -- plus the animation is just wonderful and transporting. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves life and is open to an "expanded universe of experience." I plan to see it many times.

It was grate you shod see it!! Out of all Miyazaki's work the mane couple stace together and they kiss to wow. This movie is one of miyazaki's best I say, its cute, funny and charming. Of cores there is the oh so famous music and huge tears but insted of making the mane couple fall in love instantly Miyazaki shows a littil bit of grothe in the relationship.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] A wonderful movie that takes you places that no one has been before. Spectacular scenes of the journeys Howl and Sohpie explore together and true love breaks their spell and leads them into happiness. A must see movie that will make you want to leave your seat and get you into the action.

Really great movie!!, very cute love story. The Art is Amazing!!! It's a really unique story to tell. Awesome. However the only thing is the beginning is very slow. There could have been lots of things cut out. But once Sophie was finally in Howl's castle it got good, there was alot more action. Besides the beginning, I would almost have to say I like it more than Spirited Away. Go See It!!! Suppot Anime!!! :) :)

Howl's Moving Castle is a very immaginative, cool, funny, and a fanatasy. I certainly adored it, especially Howl in the movie. I appreciate Myazaki's animation and how he makes the characters just too... beautiful! Anyway if u loved Spirited Away as much as I did, then U HAVE to watch this movie!

Given that the film has been out in its Japanese version for nearly two years -- and given what we know about cultures and social pressures in the countries where it has been seen -- one needn't speculate too long why Howl has become a cult figure in Korea and Japan. After all, who wouldn't idolize a beautiful, perfect hero who could swoop in and rescue a subservient, powerless, anonymous young girl from a life of servitude, monotony and duty? Who among the audience wouldn't fantasize about being liberated from such an existence? And not just liberated, but allowed to fly above the mundane, workaday world, to right wrongs, to conquer evil, to be seen as outstandingly beautiful, and most of all to win the grandest and most devoted love the world has ever known? Howl is both seductive and chaste. Can there be any nubile young Japanese girl today who remains immune to his magnetism? Thus it's certainly no surprise that Japan and Korea have served up an abundance of budding hentai artists whose preference it is to depict Howl/Hauru (and Sofi and Markl) in all their splendour and shape-shifting perfection. The Howl/Hauru character steals a little vanity from the Peter Pan legend, but his unique twist is not so much that he doesn't want to grow up, but that he doesn't want to grow ugly. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder in this work, and the bottom line is that it does go more than skin deep, and it moves countries and people beyond their normal experience. Howl is so beautiful that he looks like a woman -- earrings and all. His character has spawned a legion of imitators (mainly female), and there are even Hauru earrings for sale to complete the look. The harlequin jackets seems also de rigeur in Hauru wanna-be circles. Each of the characters has the ability to transform, Sofi from youth to aged crone, Markl from winsome child to bearded gnome, the Witch of the Waste from imposing beauty to multi-chinned hag, and of course Howl from delicious, slender, rock-star waif to muscled, menacing bird of prey. Landscapes move and shift, and one of the many wonders of Howl's Castle itself is the fact that the front door is actually a portal in the mystical sense; it can be changed to open on different localities at the twist of a dial. Director Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away) again creates a world apart from our own, yet jarringly resonant of the terra firma we know. Castles are set in towns that look like a cross between Prague and Paris (actually the setting was based on a town in Alsace); climbing, winding, cobbled streets look just like Clovelly, a picturesque town on the Devon coast in England (when they are likely modelled after writer Diana Wynne Jones's Bristol) If you don't love this picture, something's out of whack! [ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I liked it. Only three little things bothered me about it: 1) Christian Bale's voice. Didn't suit Howl. 2) Howl's eyes. Freaky, childlike. Just plain off-setting. 3) "Some" of the story line just doesn't add up so you are left asking questions afterwards as you are getting into your car (for instance: if they were the Witch's blob servants, how come they are working for Suliman after the Witch gets nullified? Ah well, still, I'll buy it when it comes out.

It was a good movie, but I feel it could've been better. There were some holes in the story, but other than that, the universe is magical and full of little surprises... :) I love Miyazaki's works, but Spirited Away remains my favorite.
