Good movie and well played by all the cast. The violence is graphic and the Aussie accent is sometimes difficult to catch. The choice of music is interesting. Recommended.

I thought it was very moody and indeed it was good to see something a little out of the ordinary for the setting. I am an avid listener to Nick Cave (writer) and this definitely relates to his music. The whole exposition of the movie I was wondering who was going to "have" the Captains Wife, a common theme in Nick Cave's music. Of course there is cinematic beauty to this mixed with some brutal imagery. The buildup was good and I hope to see another movie written by this musical genius.

Deserves to be considered a classic in years to come. It is uncomfortable yet mesmerizing, incredibly brutal yet beautiful, intelligent and simple; it should leave one with many different feelings as well as topics of conservation after a viewing, such as capital punishment. So much more could be written about it...

Brilliant scenery and imagery. Interesting to see a time and place in history (colonial Australia) not often depicted in movies..

Brilliant, a western that holds no punches. Delivers exquisite acting by all cast. Not for the faint of heart.

What a pointless boring movie... you sense that the director wants to get away from the gunslinging by adding romance and slow moments... very bad choice. I should have left before the ending. Dont go see this one unless they pay you.

If you enjoy the Serio Leone Spaghetti Westerns you will also enjoy this movie. A main character of very few words who lets his actions speak for themselves, set in a harsh landscape. Guy Pearce is very good in his role, but eclipsed by the acting of Danny Huston (Pearce's charater's brother)and especially Ray Winstone who is brilliant as the captian. It is a very deliberately paced film, and people who crave the MTV quick flash cuts etc will be squirming in their seats. Far less action that I thought, and visually violent. Enjoyable.

The proposition is a gorgeously shot, brutal tale of morality set against the wild and beautiful landscape of the lawless australian outback. Well written by nick cave, and strong performances all around. Although this slightly surreal, almost sergio leonesque, western is punctuated with shockingly graphic violence, the soundtrack, characters, landscape and violence harmonize into a poignant and poetic allegory.
