Jonathan Rhys Meyers was really good in this movie about deceit and gain to Fortune.

I found the acting really really poor and that put me totally off this film. Its almost like they are kids handed the script on the day and doing all first takes. This genuinely would have been just as good made with child actors. If you wanna experience a poor school play, go ahead and watch.

Written and directed to perfection and superbly acted, Woody Allen's latest drama is shocking! Match Point is so well thought-out, so brilliantly layered that the audience cannot predict the devastating ending! With all the recent nonsense coming out lately, it is nice to see that Woody Allen continues to impress us with his genius. He is truly a gifted filmmaker!

An intense Woody Allen drama/thriller set in London rather than the usual New York City. The London environment seems to have inspired Mr. Allen as this picture is beautifully shot, wonderfully acted and exceptionally directed. The story covers similar themes to those in an earlier Allen drama - Crimes and Misdemeanors - but never the less Matchpoint is fresh, original, and modern. An exceptional Woody Allen picture, even filmgoers who do not normally take to movies by Mr. Allen could very much enjoy.

Good movie, with great story line. Actors appeared to be quite woody. Good to watch if you've not go anything else to do.

It's a great movie, from the beginning to the end, it didn't feel like a 2 hour movie at all. Its one of Woody Allen's best movies.

Existentialist crisis? Dostoevsky influences with Crime and Punishment a visible influence on the films major theme. Still, Allen has completed much finer pieces of film, yet this is a fantastic work even with the weak eye on Continuity, but there are always "flaws". Highly recommended.

Definitely a winner! The best movie I've seen in a long while. Normally I'm not a Woody Allen fan, but he came through on this film. It had all the elements I look for in a great movie - good character development, storyline and intrigue. I loved the unpredictableness in this movie and the ending was definitely a surprise. Some reviewers have complained about the length of the movie. Obviously they were not that into it because I found as the movie progressed it got more and more interesting and I didn't want it to end. I strongly recommend Match Point!

Best movie of the year and best film-noir I can remember. I can't really say too much other than go see it. It is really well done, Scarlett is beautiful and the ending really stays with you.

If you are thinking of having an affair, you will think twice after seeing this movie. Passion makes people do risky things. Great British scenery. The ending was a surprise to me - a Hitchcock type movie.

This movie is brilliant!! Its those kind of movies where there is a lot of passion and I seriously wasn't expecting this because when I got into the movie theater, there was only old people! I really say "GO SEE THIS MOVIE! "I cried!!! It's absolutly fantastic!! I can't get over it!!!

Dark, intelligent, out of the ordinary. This movie is like living in a Ralph Lauren commercial for two hours (in a good way, strange as that may sound) Slow? Only for the slow. I loved it.

More great work from Woody Allen. The dialog is great and the ending is not typical of Allen's work, but works. A great watch, even if your not a fan of Woody Allen.

This movie is very well done and addresses the issue of how important luck can be in one's path in life. Scarlett is smokin' hot, and the London backdrop is a nice change for a Woody Allen movie. A great movie!

The ending was great, but the film was painfully long at times for no apparent reason, and the main character was so pitiful, even before his major flaws appear. Thank god the women in this film made for good eye candy, or else it would have been even more painful.

Man, I just didn't see it coming. Great film. It IS a bit long, and as another reviewer pointed out the male lead is supposed to be Irish but sure doesn't sound Irish... but who cares. When you walk out of a film hating one of the characters and feeling profoundly sorry for another, it's a well-done piece of work. Woody is just a cruel [...]

I enjoyed this movie however I think they could have really shortened it up and deleted some scenes that seemed superfluous or just too lengthy to make its point! I love suspense movies and this one had the same "feel" as Derailed with Jen Aniston. You just weren't sure til the very end what the outcome would be! Very good looking main characters too.. which never hurts the eyes and they had chemistry which is so important in this genre of film.

Not much really to say... This movie was brilliant, go see it as soon as you can! One of the few movies I've seen this year where I didn't want my money back at the end! Truly well executed movies are so rare nowadays, its important to see the ones that are!! Woody Allen sets a great mood through the music (the soundtrack is equally brilliant) and all the actors are great (Except Scarlet Johanson, but she's still not that bad) Go see it!!!

I was plesantly surprised after viewing Match Point. Woody Allen is a genius! The casting was superb and the story line was excellent. Scarlett Johansson plays an excellent temptress in a Woody Allen classic about love, marriage, relationships. All loose ends were tied up perfectly at the end. This is a "must-see". Especially recommended to Woody Allen fans. It's been a while since Woddy has come out with a movie and he did a fabulous job with Match Point!!!

You know when you have a good film when the comments run to both extremes from 10/10 to 2/10. The direction was superb... and post-movie discussibility factor was high. There was a lot more to the plot than meets the eye first blush. I liked it.

It was quite honestly a very poor movie. I felt as though it would never end. Definitely not Woddy Allen's quality filmography. The content was plain, and the plot barely developped.

Dissappointing. Something irked me about this film that I couldnt't quite put my finger on, and then I read it in another comment - this film has a real mysogynist streak that put me off. Thematically, this film is just a rehash of Woody Allen's previous movie "Crimes and Misdemeanors" from 1989 - rent it to see how bad this one is. The scenery is fun to watch, and the lives of the rich vs average are interesting, but the film is predictable and the dialogue is forced - a total waste of Scarlett Johanssen. Allen's vision has shrunk into mediocre has-been status. Sad but true.

This movie plays out like a very bad adaptation of a Shakespearean play. I spent the first 10 minutes laughing at the wooden acting and plummy accents - and doens't get too much better as the film progresses. The story is interesting - if somewhat predictable and sometimes patronizing. Worth renting but not seeing in the movie theatre.

To elaborate, once the ring bounced off the fence I thought, surely there's going to be some amazing twist and the plot isn't going to go the way it's been hinting at for the last boring, plodding, wincing hour. I debated whether to wait and see if the un-obvious would happen, but I physically couldn't stand waiting because it looked like, yes, the obvious would happen. I love most of Woody's films, but this one is depressingly terrible. I liked Rhys's and Scarlet's lips though - like giant inflated tyres coming toward each other. The one redeeming feature.

Insightful... and an excellent story. Also, surprisingly stylish. Allen tells the story in a way so plainly obvious that you just have to sit back in awe. Really touches the extremes of human emotions. But more than anything else, it's a story telling a moral tale, in a rather blunt, but compelling fashion.

Loved the movie, wasn't too keen on the male lead but he performed well. Loved a look at life by the rich in England. Allen is good at his craft aside from what we may think of him otherwise.

A very clever theme and plot with superb acting and a nice twist in the ending. More like a cross between Ingmar Bergman and "Room at the Top" (Sillitoe) than most other Allen endeavours (with an added tip of the hat to Russian classical writing) So, it IS a "cousin" in style/plot to "Cries and Whispers"... but an entertaining one!! (Particularly if you can't stand British snobbery! )

Wow!!! What a sleeper!! I didn't expect anything like this. Match point, a tennis pro, a love triangle, who expected the story it became. I loved it, my wife loved it and our friends loved it as well. 4/4. This is a whole new direction for Woody Allen. I think he succeeded beyond what I would ever have expected of him. Scarlett Johansen? She's sexy whenever and wherever she goes. I think she's had more ambitious roles but nevertheless I think she's done an admirable job. The acting was very good, the story a bit weak but all in all a very enjoyable evening with a twist. Definitely go to see it.

Interestingly enough, prior to seeing this movie I commented to my partner that the reviews on this site were either REALLY good or REALLY bad, and he responded that there's no middle ground when it comes to peoples' taste for Woody Allen. I am actually a Woody Allen fan, and count Annie Hall in my top 10 movies ever, but I hated this one. At the end of it, my partner said "10" and I said "2". While I liked the scenes of London, I thought the script was weak, the dialogue not up to Johanssen and Rys-Meyers' level, and the characters totally unbelievable. At the end, I found myself not caring about any of them, or what was (predictably, I might add) going to happen. This combined the worst elements of The Talented Mr. Ripley with the cheasiest, most implausable elements of Michael J. Fox's 1980s hit The Secret of My Success. Not good. I was really disappointed.

Not a typical Woody Allen film, that's for sure! Loved to hate the main character. Loved the parallels with opera (nice opera sountrack to the movie)and the backdrop of London. Overall, kind of dull and felt long. More or less forgetable movie.

Not your typical Woody Allen film! Very dark. Rhys-Meyers is excellent as the conflicted social climber and Johansson is absolutely beautiful as the sexy "victim". I'm glad the movie ended the way it did because then it would've become one of those typical "hollywood" movies that I wasted 2 hours sitting through!

Hugely overrated. Woody Allen brings the softlens to upperclass English mansions, and pure wooden stereotypes to his characters (the kind Oscar Wilde satirises, Wooden Allen takes as gospel flesh and blood) He has no ear for the cadences of English as it is spoken in England, makes his characters use words and expressions that belong in New York, certainly not in the British Isles ("gotten"!! ) The main male character is supposed to be Irish and has not the slightest hint of Ireland in his accent or imagery. The acting is awful (Scarlett Johannsen included - though she is given very little to work with), the plot close to farce and totally predictable. Mr. Allen is now working out his guilt in English landscapes rather than those of New York. I suppose we should be thankful for small mercies. While this director repeats himself endlessly and shamelessly, at least we no longer have to hear him ranting on to himself and to his shrink about love and death. The screenplay Oscar nomination for this movie is the most ridiculous choice since Mel Gibson's blue bum's beat out 'Sense and Sensibility' for the best film about a decade ago. Buy a tub of ice cream instead.

Yawn. Predictable. Lousy dialogue. You could tell Scarlett was cringing when delivering such dross. I'm surprised at Woody Allen. He should stick to comedy. Pretty venues though. Scarlett deserves better... in all respects. She has "it", no matter how crappy her script.

An excellent psychological drama. Let yourself fall into the story and get to know the different characters. Once you are in it, you will not know how it will end. Bravo to Woody Allen! Not an action packed movie, just a great love/drama/treachery story! I loved it!!
