It's a good movie. The book is definitely way better. I thought that Calista Flockhart did an amazing job.

I think that the movie stayed close to the original in terms of meaning. The cast was wonderful and made for a very entertaining production.

I enjoyed the movie, as it is a great cast. I never read the original, so I can't say if they butchered Shakespeare or not, but the production made for pleasant entertainment.

This movie shows you that true love can win in the end with a little magic dust.

Obviously don't base your english 100 research paper on this film. You will get non of the messages between lines from watching it. The director cutted lines quite ruthlessly, overdone in my opinion actually, for almost half of the lines were gone and the rest reshuffled like heck. Some places were carried overboard, such as the mud fight that turned Shakespeare's comedy into a slapstick. The actress who played Helena is a definie miscast, for Helena is supposedly tall and pair and sweet while she is... well, just see for yourself. The actors were quite decent however, and the final play of Pyramus and Thisbe very funny. Very pretty picture indeed and good music too, but lacks a lot Shakespeare's charms.

The movie should have been translated to modern-day English. As a teaching aid it was okay, but for entertainment purposes I would not watch this.

You have to be a fan of Shakespeare's works to truly appreciate this movie. And, of course, you have to also understand old English style of speaking! Visually beautiful, you have to be willing to lose yourself in the passion of emotion. Only if you give yourself up to the grandeur of love and what love does to a mortal's mind, will you truly enjoy the movie. To get an even richer enjoyment, I suggest you read the original play or the movie-tie-in adaptation.

Not a very good movie! The first hour seemed never ending. After the movie got a little more interesting but it didn't make it a good movie.

It's for those who like old English and Shakespeare's plays. It has nothing to do with the movie Shakespeare in Love. It's not even hard-hitting... you won't keep thinking of it afterward. I even wonder if you'll identify yourself with any character. Feelings also lose their strength... being canned in words of limited scope. On the good side, costumes, scenery and music are very nice... if you like opera and classic costumes like me! ^_^ Don't expect intense passion. There won't be a Jack and Rose like Titanic... nor William and Murron from Braveheart... heck... not even a Leia and Han... ^_^ All in all... it's not for everyone. ^_^ Guys kept being shushed at by their girlfriends..^_^ You get the picture...^_^
