After hearing so many bad comments about this film, I was actually surprised when I rented the DVD and actually liked it. I think the reason why so many people feel disappointed after watching it is that they are trying to make sense of Marc Lepine's motivations that lead him to kill all those women, may be even something deeper than what the media ever told us, which this movie does not reveal. If you are looking for answers, your best bet would be the book "Aftermath" written by Monique Lepine and you will find many answers to your questions towards the end of the book. This movie is solely intended to take us back to December 6 1989, inside the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and show us the evens from the students' point of view so we can actually feel how it was like to be in their shoes on that day. And in my opinion the filmmakers have done a very good job. The framing was very artistic, all the actors were fantastic, and I really liked how they developed the story. It is also shot in black and white to concentrate more on the dramatic evens, rather than blood and gore. I think I will buy it on Blu-Ray when I get my next paycheck.

Not worth even, a 2 rating! This movie is about a guy who hates women made for women who hate men. Typical Quebec-made for cinema. Story line goes over like a lead fart on a crowded bus!

Not bad but it could be better. There's a movie called 'we are Marshall'. This movie talk about a airplane crash with a football team in it. There were two sides on this movie, one side was about what really happened, the crash, the teammates, the data, the mesures that the Marshall U took after the crash, how they put the team again with freshman... the other side is what's called composite caracters, it means one or several personnages invented to recreate the general feeling. In We are Marshall it was a young couple in love, he died, his father already lost his wife and now his son and you can see through the movie, through a personnage (caracter) the sentiment of a town. Polythechnique is a déjà vu, almost a documentary with nothing that could make me feel attached to these people who suffered the lost of someone.

It has been 20 years since this shooting occurred. As a woman in engineering, I've never forgotten it, and this quiet, beautiful film in black-and-white portrayed the sudden senselessness of the event. I recommend the film to everyone.

As someone who was peripherally involved with the events of Poly (one of the 14 was a friend's girlfriend), and as a former Poly student myself, I was very apprehensive about this movie. After the massacre, I became quickly fed up with the anti-male message we were bombarded with, so my biggest fear was that Polytechnique (the movie) was going to drudge that back up and make it about what it wasn't: a story about violence made by men to women. I'm glad that the movie wasn't about that. I like that the shooter's name is left out, and that the story focuses on the human drama of those who went through it. I'll admit feeling very strong emotions of sympathy for Jean-Francois, the movie's male character. As a man, I could relate to his own feelings of helplessness and remorse. I love that the movie was shot in black and white, and that it was done with great tact and skill. I can understand why some people would feel that it has no plot, no depth, and no characters. They're probably not the audience this movie was intended to. I can say I heard what Villeneuve had to say, and I would recommend it to anyone who lived through the events at the time. Good job!

... and life, with all its issues went on as it did for all of us in Montréal after these events that should never been forgotten. Life should never just go on. Someone had to memorialize. This movie was our reminder.

Voyeurism was my worry... but instead, I came out of the theater with a new perception of the events... a better understanding of the depth of the shooters madness... a glimpse in horror... REAL horror. Filmed in black & white, in respect for the surreality of it all... in respect for the victims & their families. Another Québécois film production to be proud of. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo... Inner peace to all involved xox.

Extremely touching! It was very tastefully done in black & white & with respect for the victims & their loved ones. The tale of a tragic story I recommend that everyone go see.

I couldn't have done a better job myself with the subject matter such as this. The film was well done... and had many beautiful elements to it, a sad sad film. I think everyone should see it.

Having suffered a similar trauma I found the message was amazing. A great tribute to the females killed and to all females in the world and mankind in general. Ending is superb. Many messages. Not u'r typical Hollywood ending - much more meaningful.

Remarkably filmed. We could modestly or just get a glimpse of what it might have bin and felt during the happening. Visually symbolic, cracked from the inside, helpless people now cold and broken. The killers narrative, frightening beginning leads us to ending of frustration, man are potentially dangerous creatures and women should have the entire world for them... !

Very good movie. The subject is pretty controversial but some people don't understand certain things. Many say they wont see this because its sort of a disrespect towards the victims and the victims family. On the contrary, this is to SHOW everyone to never forget how we live and who lived. Either you love it or hate it. 8/10 for good acting and a good story.

It was very poorly done and the women who were massacred deserve more than this! It lacks depth, purpose, and even dialogue! We don't get to find out WHO, or WHY? We don't even get to find out a beginning, a plot an ending. What was this director trying to avoid? Jean.

It is the WORST movie I have ever seen. NO story... just a shooting!!! NO plot, line, theme, NO content. We know about the shooting. The movie made no effort to go even half an inch deeper than, there was a shooting. TERRRIBLE... waste of money and shows NO respect in the memory of those women who died. The director, who was at the movie seems stilll very personally tied to the event. Perhaps that is why he was unable to detach himself.

Magnificently directed, simultaneously subtle and powerful. The actors were very much on the ball, providing realistic yet slightly understated performances. A delicate subject matter here was brilliantly handled with just the right amount of sensitivity and respect for both the viewers and the victims.
