Worth to see, especially for a history student like me. But not an everyone-likes-movie for sure.

Very good movie. Navy was always considered the elite of Russian (and many others) armed forces and the elite of the Navy is submarines, after watching this movie one can understand why.

This film is interesting, in a National Geographic kind of way. The story was good, characters interesting and likeable, but not a whole lot of sizzle. Great film if you are into Russian nuclear submarine program. My wife hated it.

While this flick was mostly filmed in my home town of Halifax it has alot to be desired. Neeson is by far the best presentation in the flick, but he had no competion from Ford. See this as a last resort.

This has to be the baby brother of crimson tides but 30 years later. The first is much better.

A sad story, great movie and wonderfull actors. Tragic event, insanity of the superpowers and celebration of the humanity of a "little man". I'll never forget the female voice singing without music a song of sacrification. Not for the homeland or politics, but for the comrades and brothers...

Don't expect to see an action-packed film and war scenes - this is not what it's all about. I highly recomment this movie. It's interesting from a factual and historical point of view, as the story has been kept secret until 1989, at the fall of communism. Keep in mind, when seeing this movie, that it takes place during the cold war, and that the tensions existing between nations, especially between the USSR and the U. S. , were threatening to create a war at any given time. During that period, the main activities were mostly espionnage and the creation of more and more nuclear weaponry. The mission of K-19 was actually to go into the northern Atlantic in order to be detected by U. S. intelligence, so that the States would be aware of the newly built nuclear submarine. When K-19 left for its mission, it was not up to par yet, as the Russians felt rushed to let the Americans be aware that they had this new technology. There are some very shocking as well as moving emotional scenes. The tensions between the two captains brings another interesting dimension to the plot. The one somewhat distracting thing about the movie though, is that at times, some characters have hardly a Russian accent, and at other times, a strong accent. Aside from that though, this movie is worth seeing.

This movie was very well done. I think one of the problems is people don't know what kind of movie they are going to watch. It's 1961, there was only the cold war, there were no battles fought, so don't expect any. I like the single view they give us. You board the submarine with the crew, and almost exclusivly stay there. No jumping to the Pentagon for reactions. And not even a lot of jumping to Moscow for reactions. So, instead of all that "action" people are looking for, this film dares to show you what it's like to be alone in the middle of the atlantic in a nuclear crisis.

I had a tear in my eye watching this movie. I couldn't say a word for 20 minutes after the movie ended, but there were also some people in theatre behind me who concluded that "the movie wasn't really exciting, was it? " So the movie is not for everybody...

An exceptional brave movie about exceptionally brave men. In the genre of Das Boot. Likely to be Harrison Ford's crowning achievment. Don't expect the academy to see it that way. Thank-you Mr Ford for showing us the courage of the human spirit. A beautiful movie.

Not a great war movie, nor a great submarine film (there have been much better as noted in other reviews) The acting was just passable, if you ignore the accents. But the film isn't bad because it is based on a true incident, and so gives some insight into Cold War interactions between the USA and Russia, and the lack of preparedness on the part of the Russians. Not a very good film, but interesting nonetheless. A tossup between seeing the action on a big screen and saving $$ by waiting for video.

I saw K19 just the other day full of doubts and bad reviews swarming around in my head. After the movie the movie in my mind silenced its critics. It is a terrific submarine movie, different than anything else we've seen from the likes of 'The Hunt for Red October' and 'U571'. It is a great action thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole time. My only problem was Liam Neeson portraying a Russian. It didn't quite go for me, Harrison however was great as the gritty and patriotic captain.

Honestly I hate movies dealing with war, but I was forced to watch this movie. In the end this movie turned out to be great! It made me sad, laugh, and then cry (which I dont normally do when watching a movie) id recomend this movie to those who would want a taste of the real world.

I usually don't go for war movies but this was very good. It wasn't your typical war movie. It was well put together and the scary thing is that this is based on true facts. I would recommend going to see this.

As much as I love Harrison Ford, in this movie I hated him. The movie was very slow, and very long. The only good thing I can say about the movie is he got everyone to work as a team, and at the end he made the right decision, not one of this best movies.

The best Hollywood movie ever made. Some people say this movie demonstartes, why Soviet Union finally collapsed. Nothing can be further from the truth. Actually, this movie demonstrates, why Russia was never conquered - neither by Sweden, neither by Germany, neither by China or Japan, or any other country. By watching this movie Americans can finally realise, why Russia won the Second World War and stopped Nazis almost by herself.

I thought the movie was well worth going to see. I enjoy movies based on real events. It is scary when you think about what happened in that movie. It makes you think, what else has gone on in the world that we don't know about. The movie was well done and it moved along and didn't make you bored through any part of it.

Not bad. Could be better. I was expecting some action between USA and URSS but it never happens. The story revolves around the K-19 submarine and a problem of its reactor. The team up of Neeson and Ford is great though. (as we all expect from these two) Not to be seen for those who want action.

Worth checking out. A little too dependent on melodramatic speeches and soaring background music, but the story is true and pretty gripping. A mixture of improvised plumbing and high-tech nuke in a world of paranoia and bureaucratic bumbling. I disagree that it's pro-American... or pro-Russian. Russian central planning really was a mess. Why pretend otherwise? The characters were doing their best in a lousy situation. It thankfully stayed pretty much away from comparing the two superpowers and even handled Russian paranoia with a certain amount of sensitivity.

As a National Geographic film release I was expecting a lot out of this Movie. With Great Actors such as Neeson and Ford it held promise. Neeson is no Russian I tell you what and Ford appears to be uninterested in the film. The Accents were atrocious. What is weak here is the Screenplay and the Directing and the Acting. The ending was especially putrid. This film sort of resembles the latest issues of Geographic; Shiny paper and Shiny photos dolloped with a healthy dose of melancholy malarkey. The Russians must be outraged with this Hollywood treatment of their Cold War incident. I think U-571 is on par with this dreck. And that's not a good thing. If you want to see a great sub movie, rent the original cut of "Das Boot" in German with English subtitles. You'll really feel that stinky closed in sensation of sharing a bunk with other men that haven't bathed in months. Unless you are in one of those cheap theatres with your feet gummed to the floor eating a Taco chip and Hot Dog Combo.

I like the actors in the movie, lot's of action but most was all in one area the sub! I'd prefer the hunt for red october it's has more of a story line. This one does not, very slow going right through. Not a blockbuster, it will be on dvd and video shortly!

This movie belongs in the category "great war movies". For once a story was told more or less as it happened and was not embellished with lots of "Hooray for America" scenes. The story wasn't contorted and diminished as in "Enemy at the Gates" by phony sub-plots or mindless diversions. It was a great story in and of itself that was materfully portrayed by the cast. Also, the movie was great because it didn't rely on special effects to carry the story. The actors could have read their lines in an empty room and it would still have had the same effect! Besides, it was filmed in Canada.

Story of hapless Soviet submarine and crew driven to near disaster during 1950's cold war arms race. Soviet crew is forced to find the strength and courage to avoid nuclear meltdown and World War III. Sound pretty good, but film fails to deliver on promise due to poor script & lousy acting and a ending that tries to be ironic but simply falls flat instead.

The performances are quite adequate as the hype assures us, but overall the movie was uninspiring. Harrison Ford is the hero who must make tough decisions that his short sighted staff cant understand. Personally, I would have offd him right away. Im sick and tired of heroes in supposed historical movies. Is it really necessary? Otherwise the movie was adequate, considering the marginal story, directing without style, and the utterly useless ending.

It was THE most BORING movie I have seen in YEARS. There's no WAR! The movie is about a completely incompentent crew (who speak English even though they're Russian?) add to that lousy effects, and a serious lack of interesting characters (I personally was waiting for them to slowly die off)

Very engaging film. You care about the men on the ship, you care about what is happening to them and you care about what could have happened, and what could still happen, to all of us should a nuclear accident occur. K-19 quickly grabs you and drags you to the edge of your seat where it leaves you suspended, hanging on to the tension that continues building from the moment the ship's missile launch mechanism doesnt work in test right through to captains final orders. The writing, the directing, the acting, the cinematography, the special effect are relentless in moving the audience into and through the emotional wringer that is K-19. Definitely and Oscar contender in several categories. Congratulations to all involved.
