[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
In a time where concerns about africa, its welfare, its economy and the health of its inhabitants is a popular concern due in part to the contributions and efforts of pop stars and movie stars of the likes of bono and Angelina Jolie, this movie comes as a delicate symbiosis of the beauty of an unforgetable love story and the sensibility of a certain few towards the lives and well being of people in africa. Interestingly, the topic at hand is probably even more relevant as the current struggles of the pharmaceutical industry (Merck for instance) with the popular conception of pharmaceutical companies being greedy conglomerates with no respect for human life and a thirst for money. (Merck for instance has just been found liable for the deaths of a few due to undisclosure of a potentially increased risk of heart attacks and strokes in certain susceptible individuals) Regardless, the gathering of all these elements into one movie is delicately done and beautifully portrayed. Ralph Fiennes masterfully embodies the unsuspecting diplomate concerned solely for wife's well-being. Similarly, Rachel Weisz sparkles as the pure, tortured soul unrelentless towards her pursuit of ideals in morals that are simply too few for our times. I am happy that such a movie was made, and am equally happy that efforts are being made towards the betterment of our world as a whole.
