Helen Mirren was marvelous, we all know that. But as I went into the theatre, I wasn't expecting the actual footage of Diana and of the crowds that were woven into the film. The effect is wonderful; it brings us back to that time in the world, connects us to that situation in a very real, fresh way. What's fascinating about the movie is that you get to see (more or less) what the experience was like for the royal family and how closely Tony Blair was involved in the Windsors' thoughts and actions at the time. For anyone interested in the topic, this is a must-see.

I don't want to sound all conspiracy like, but I thought this movie was just kinda... meh. I mean I love Queen Elizabeth and everything, but this movie just didn't do anything for me.

Helen Mirren is a wonderful actress. All other acting in this movie was well done too. I didn't feel the movie was slow-paced or boring, I thought it was intriguing and made you think of the situation. Well done!

DVD: "Queen"
In her Oscar winning role, Helen Mirren gives the performance of a lifetime. Her Queen Elizabeth II is: stoic, stubborn, obsessive - compulsive, rigid, obsessed with protocol - but not without at least a little bit of a heart. She never liked Diana and is reluctant to accept the importance of the dead princess to the British people but, from the urging of Prime Minister Blair, she comes to realize the long - lasting legacy that Diana will leave behind.

It was an amazing film showing the other side of the castle goings on. It made me believe that the Queen does have a heart.

Helen Mirren was undeniably good. I don't think that the movie was as good as it was made out to be. I actually thought it was a little boring.

I have been going to the movies all of my life and this certainly is a masterpiece in my opinion and I would recommend anyone who wants to seee a wonderful film, not the junk they turn out of Hollywood to see this movie. Michael J Wareham.

Saw this 3 or 4 times, and well worth it each time just for the sets... I wonder how realistic they were? Loved the footage at Balmoral, particularly the kitchen scene... Couldn't believe how antiquated the kitchen was, so delightful, showing a strong sense of tradition. I've never been what you could call a royal watcher although I've always admired the dignity and good works of the monarchy. But this movie inspired me to learn more about the queen's position and duties, and it was eye-opening for me. The movie did a great job of depicting the amount of responsibility the queen has, and at how well she handles it. Helen Mirren's portrayal was exceptional. At times it was hard to believe she was acting, and not the real McCoy. One aspect I did not like was the way Prince Philip and Prince Charles were depicted as such buffoons. Most unfair from what my research has shown. They may not be as admirable as the queen, but certainly they cannot be as bad as the movie showed them. Altogether an absorbing film.

There's a movie somewhere in this story but it hasn't been made yet. However HM as HM is perfect. In fact why doesn't she just take the gig --- save a lot of taxpayer loot.

Hellen Mirren is THE QUEEN, Fantastic performance. However, as the story goes, I expected to see more about The Queen's life than Blair or Diane. It is a good movie. Worth watching.

No matter what your political opinions are on the Queen, this movie deserves to be seen if only for Helen Mirren's performance, who portrays the Queen with dignity, class and grace. This movie was so personal and from the point of view of the monarchy- I must say I wasn't bored at all.

A very good film, must see. Good actors play. My son said the Queen looks very much like original when she visited us 2 years ago. I believe him, since he saw her (Queen Elizabeth) very closely.

I am not a diehard fan of the Royal family but you would have to be living under a rock if you didn't hear about the Princess D tragedy. It was interesting to witness the aftermath through the eyes of the Queen and to see what she was going through along with the rest of the Royal family. I loved the main actor... She provided a riveting performance and I was really impressed.

They did a fantastic job of matching physical characteristics of the people they were portraying! They certainly gave a convincing story of what might have happened between the people involved. As always one never knows for sure unless one was behind those closed doors!

Why people are raving about this movie I have no idea. It played up to all the stereo types and is I think just rubbish. I am no fan of the Royals but why not keep it real? Also why all the fuss about Diana she was only human and had many faults like the rest of us something that seems to escape all the people who seem to think she was some kind of saint, which is very for from the truth. Its not any surprise to me that Americans buy in to this drivel as having lived in the USA for 40 years it has always amazed me that they have such a fascination with British royalty. Which leaves one to wonder why they threw all that tea in the harbor..

Superb acting by Helen Mirren as the Queen-uncanny how well she portrayed her, as anyone who has ever come into close contact with the Queen will know. The portrayal of Tony Blair was also very good. The rest of the actors made me feel as if I was watching a PBS mini-series. I appreciated the flashbacks to 1997 - I could remember many of them well - as well as the fantastic shots of Scotland where I spent my early life. The newsreel inserts of Diana, Princess of Wales, made it all the more interesting. The Royal Family always came accross as dysfunctional when I lived in London and I think its an accurate portrayal. Pity they don't make a movie about DIANA-now that would really be interesting and a Blockbuster-but then, I guess since we will never really know the truth, any ending would be purely speculation. I digress... back to the main point! Give Helen Mirren an Oscar for this performance!

To begin, this was a powerfully human film. There are no plot twists, explosions, double-crosses, or sex. What it does have is a provocative character drama, superb acting on all sides (special mention to the actress who plays the queen mother), and a refreshing take on the monarchy. Helen Mirren is a stunning force in the title role and is vigorously refreshing in such an uptight character. She completely embodies her character and plays it with a human fragility that is made up of her internal struggle of painful uncertainty and resolved dignity. The film is as emotionally beautiful to watch as the Balmoral landscape.

Not much I can add that has not already been said. This is an excellent production with excellent performances and a gripping story that most of us lived through. For political junkies it is also a fascinating look at the interplay between the Prime Ministers' Office and the Palace insiders. A must see!

This film lifts the curtain into the lives of the traditional ways of the British monarchy and their struggle with the media, government, public, and essentially modernity. Their public reputation is diminished as they deal with the death of Diana, although it's difficult to buy the film's sentiment that the monarchy almost comes to ruin over this. An interesting film that deals with a broader issue of tradition coinciding with modernity.

Very enjoyable. A real insight into events that week. Helen Mirram deserves the Oscar for her performance... only why does she think the Queen walks like she is still riding her horse?

Wow, Helen Mirren did an amazing job! If she does not win the Oscar for this role, their voting system is corrupt. Okay, the movie itself was very slow. I was not aware that the whole movie revolved around the death of Princess Diana, and the royal family's reaction to it. So the entire film is basically a week in the life of the queen. It gives you wonderful insight into the reasons for some of their behavior & the protocol they have to follow. So the movie is interesting at times, but overall it is just too slow & not very entertaining.

The buzz around this movie is based more on how much like the Queen, Helen looks rather than the actual movie itself. The resemblance is uncanny but as a movie, this one blows alot of turd. It's okay, not really going anywhere, the Queen is too stoic and not interesting. The emphasis should be on a movie about Diana who is a more charasmatic character with depth. This feels more like a PBS production than a large studio release. The only scenes that buster up some emotion are from newscasts and images 9 years ago.
