I thought there were some really pointless scenes and a lot of the movie just wasnt top notch. Some good acting with some extremely bad doesnt make for a good overall movie.

Very interesting, well done... Its heavy, but it makes you think about it. For me it talks about irresponsibilities mainly, from all sides... it worth to see!

With all due respect to Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt, I just don't see how this movie created so much fuzz when it came out. After reading the explanation of this film on Wikipedia, I am still not convinced about its central idea. Besides being incredibly boring, there is no themed connection between the four plots. Overall, this movie lacks everything a movie should have (except for famous actors)

The movie is too long by 20 minutes to half an hour. Very slow moving at the beginning. There are some loose ends I wish they had tied up. I give points for effort on something new and refreshing. I liked the international feel to the story.

A great job at interweaving for story lines concurrently, that don't necessarily happen in that order, each thread is very interesting.

This movie was so over rated. What was the point of the Japanese girl... Now I know why it was called babel, cuz it makes no sense what so ever... You'll find yourself asking "what? " the whole time, if you dont turn it off by the 3 scene.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's interesting how one event can have such an effect on 4 different groups of people around the world.

This movie should be original but it isn't. If I didn't already see movies like 'Traffic' or 'Crash', then I would give this movie a much higher rating. It is a good movie none the less and worth seeing. It's just nothing you haven't seen before if you've watched either of the other movies I mentioned.

Very intense, very dark, very well acted and very much a repetition of Crash, but on an international scale. I have read a lot of the reviews and most of them could not figure out the Japanese bit. Well, here's a take... The girl's mother committed suicide with the rifle because the father was sexually abusing the girl. He took it hunting and gave it away as a method of atoning, somewhat, for owning the rifle that killed his wife. It fits for me, and brings the Japanese section into play more so than just a superficial connection to a rifle and hunter. To me the film was real... I have spent over 30 years traveling to third world countries in my work, and thank God never once had an illness or significant issue with regard to safety, etc. This movie brought it home to me how lucky I was. For those who like the typical Hollywood film, it will not be a favorite, for sure... You have to pay attention, and have empathy for the players. The lives of children, less fortunates, and the fortunates all over the world can be connected, albeit with a slim thread, but nonetheless, with impact.

The script was good. The actors were all equally good and the nonwestern actors just as soon as the holywood stars. No actor stood out in my opinion as exceptional in this movie. It is the script and the Arab family that makes it.

It wasn't all that is was cracked up to be. Some of it was really weird and pointless. I don't think it deserved an Oscar or any other award. It deserved the award for worst movie! i didn't like it neither did my mom. The plot of the movie was weird and confusing to.

What an excellent movie, I couldn't leave my seat. I love the irony in the movie. The Americans were left behind by their American fellows in a so-called “terrorists” country, but were saved by the people in such country. A Mexican nanny loves her baby-sitting kids so much that caused her dream of living in the States. The Japanese girl thinks she couldn’t find love but in fact love is with her the whole time. If you enjoy watching a movie without thinking, this is certainly not the right film for you. This movie leaves behind a lot of messages, but you have to find them with your heart..

I fully understand why "Babel" would appeal to a certain audience: explicit subject matter. With that said, this film is pseudo-intellectual and chiefly superficial in its messages; just because we're shown people in pain and suffering doesn't mean it has to be a good film! As a generalisation: Have implicit messages/meanings become so difficult and abstract to the average North American? So there is a problem, yes everyone knows, move on, offer more... This ever-present, overly emotional theme carried throughout was over the top and by "emotional" I simply mean: Emotional to the point of pornographic. Human interconnectivity is a beautiful and poetic element in art (and life itself), but how many times does this film need to explain itself? "Syriana" was a beautiful film dealing with human interconnectivity, Kieslowski's "The Double Life of Veronique" as well, but they MOVED ON beyond that point, didn't trying to fully understand everything and everyone (especially with other, non-western cultures), they didn't dwell and beat us over the head with a singular idea, but instead allowed us room to breathe and reflect, not spoon feed us our ideas...

Good story, great acting, 1/2 hour too long. Dragged to the point of fast forwarding. What happened to a nice to-the point film? Because we can have people sit through movies longer doesn't mean we should. (JFK long, GOOD. Babel long, BAD)

I loved the intermingling and fluidity of the different lives of the characters and I loved the use of the different languages, countries and cultures. It's like a trip around the world without ever leaving your seat. Also, I'm very appreciative of the editing -- with inexperience in this department, this film could have been very confusing. However, the editing was solid and the transitions were added in all the right places making the story clear and show what was intended.

A very good movie with scenes in parallel. The story was touching, and the acting of the performers were good. I like the scene in Japan, the deaf girl performed very well. I must also say that the movie is a little bit slow.

For me the best movie of the last decade... well scripted... well played.. Brad Pitt has never been better... great story telling about our global world today... the title tells all... babel like the famous tower in the bible... direction impeccable and the mixture of known actors with unknown and amateurs is so well handled... a near masterpiece, , and will see it again and again... It was the lamest most pointless show that I have ever seen, and who wants to see some [...] naked Japanese 12 year old? It also promotes the stereotype that middle eastern countries are immoral and terrorists. Oh yeah and a technical error, The kid was shooting at the other side of the bus, than that woman got shot on.

Don't waste your money. Difficult to figure out. You have to think very hard to see the connection. I don't call that entertainment. The only connection I saw was lies, deception, cold blood murder where the guilty gets away with it, teenagers reacting to stress by expressing sexual misconduct. Unfortunately this is all part of our reality, which we'd rather forget. Please remind me what was genius about this movie! Not worth seeing. The only thing good were some of the actors: Kate Blanchet, not even Brad Pitt and some of the young actors.

Babel was a tower built by a united humanity to reach the heavens. God, observing the unity of humanity in the construction, resolves to destroy the tower and confuse the previously uniform language of humanity, thereby preventing any such future efforts. As a result, this story is sometimes used within a Judeo-Christian context to explain the existence of many different languages and races. That being said, this movie was really well done. It's a film about language barriers. (Not Brad Pitts wife, Cate, getting shot by terrorists, like some people may have perceived from the trailers) The film was great and well acted.

We were a group of four friends, all of different backgrounds and religions and we all loved this movie. We "understood" the misunderstanding. It was well done, and left a lot of the conclusions to the spectator's own mind, which leaves you wondering for days after. Definitely recommended for those that liked Amores Perros or Crash.

TERRIBLE movie... what was with the 10 year old boy [...]? How did that contribute to the movie what so ever? I dont get it... I can deal with a cliff hanger movie... but in all the interconnected plotlines, not one conclusion let me satisfied... Get past the hype, this movie is disturbing, brutally long and takes a true critic/intellectual to fully appreciate this movie... so if you are that person and can handle watching the 10 year old beat off to his sister, then waste $10 to see it.

The way the movie is put together in different, interrelated stories. Its like sometimes happens in real life. Garcia Bernal's scene when he ilegally crosses the border and the surrounding situation is so good. The conflicted asian girl is also a masterpiece specially as it relates to her artistic abilities.

This film is overrated at best. It reminds me of the film Crash from a few yrs ago but at a much slower pace. Its too bad since the acting was top notch. I knew what was going to happen before the film showed it to the audience. The story lines were weak. Glad I rented it and not seen it at the movies.

I was very excited to see this movie because of all the hype and once I saw it, I dont think Ive ever been so disappointed about the outcome. I love Brad Pitt but after this movie his respect rating just went down 5 notches, save your money people. I dont know why the rating for this movie is so high it should be at 3 at the most.

Contrived and predictable from the beginning. Poorly directed, slow too much footage that should have been cut out to tighten the story. It might have been easier to film the bible. The Japaanese stuff was completely useless [...] what did that have to do with anything at all? I have seen all this kind of story and style done before and not nearly as boring. I would not even rent the DVD.

Extremely boring & overrated [...]. I don't understand the excitement. There is little to no chemistry between Brad & Cate, the plot is disjointed and uninspiring and the simplest actions seem to take forever... get to the point already! I came away from this movie feeling depressed & somewhat bewildered. A long, boring look at the bad side of human nature.

Thought provoking is the only way to describe the theme. The scenes in Morocco, Mexico and Tokyo are breathtaking. The twists and turns of the plot are clever. The Japanese part of the film could have been shortened, especially the disco scene. The unanswered questions at the end are frustrating. What was on the note? Why did the Japanese mother kill herself? Was it the same gun? I could watch this movie again.
