I think Ben Affleck is a great actor, certainly in the kevin smith directed movies. Now I also think Affleck is a good director! This was a good movie. Good Story. Good acting. Nice twists. All the actors did a great acting job.

WOW... apart from the thick Boston accent of many characters in the film this movie leaves you with a sense of "What would I have done in such a situation" it's a movie that has you analyze yourself and your values all during a gripping ensemble cast including Ed Harris, and my favorite, Morgan Freeman... run, dont walk to rent Gone Baby Gone.

I truly thought it was an amazing movie, wow makes you think, if you have children or want to have, make sure you are responsible enough. Awesome movie.

Great film, asks some very tough, pointed questions about what is correct and what is wrong. What would you do? Who was the good guy? Very entertaining while giving you things to think about long after the screen has rolled the credits.

Too dark a story for me. Made me feel sick.

Ben Affleck did an amazing job adapting the novel to the silverscreen. It's an interesting take on urban poverty and the behavior patterns that low-income citizens abide by.

The Best movie I've seen in years! Finally a movie that is not "Hollywood-like". Great job by the Affleck brothers!

I loved it. Definitely not a fluff action film. But that's why I liked it. Anyone who likes to grapple with serious issues will love it too. If you go just to be entertained, then forget it. This is a challenging film. I've never seen Casey Affleck before, and I was pleasantly surprised. Kudos to Ben as well for interesting use of camera angles. Looking forward to a second endeavor.

Unlike some, I liked that they casted a somewhat unknown as the lead. I feel it drew you more into his character without Hollywood to distract you. The entire movie is a must see. If you have ever lived in a working class neighborhood you'll see characters in this movie that you either knew or knew of growing up. I feel like they grabbed the cameras and just started filming people in their neighborhood. The story line is full of truth and irony and makes you think; is doing the right thing always the right thing to do?!

I found there was a measure of violence that was gratuitous and the strong language excessive. The plot was good and left the audience having to think things through. I found the violence and language offensive and would not want to view this movie if had I known that.

I really enjoyed this film! Excellent plot twists that kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Casey Affleck grew on me throughout the film. This is one you will remember for a long time! Definitely an Oscar contender.

One of the worst movies... Affleck brothers should quit acting and specially directing!

A twist on film noir and perhaps America's best film this year at time of release. Similar to last year's 'Departed' except the film adds warmth to edge-of-your-seat action and it's multiple plot twists.

I liked the story but I found it a little bit boring at times. Maybe there was too many long dialogues. "Patrick's" voice and acting drove me nuts the whole time. They could have chosen a better actor. The ending makes you think.

Whatever you've heard about Ben Affleck's efforts to make "a really good film" in his directorial debut will not diminish the surprise of how good this film actually is. It's a solid story, very well-acted all around, and the dialogue rings extremely true. Definitely one of the better films released in the last few years and certainly worth seeing.

I liked this movie, although I might have seen the trailer a bit too much for all the events to be a total surprise. There was something really simple about it. It seemed really close to the ground. All the same, there were some hokey parts to it, and some of the big actors reek too much of Hollywood. All in all it made me feel that my rating of Eastern Promises was too harsh, if that makes any sense!

I really enjoyed the film. The movie is sort of split in 2 halves which took some getting used to but good performances and who new ben afleck could direct. A must see movie on a lot of levels.

I expected much from this movie, but was severely disappointed by the plot. The acting was good, but I couldn't focus and ending up goofing off with my friend at the back of the theatre for the second half of the movie. Not even worth renting, in my opinion.

Good but not fantastic. Ben has done very well with the screenplay & directing on this movie for sure. Casey is good & believable to a point but he can be a little hard to understand with the odd mumble thrown in there. Reasonable supporting cast, including Ed Harris but no other real standouts here (incl. Freeman) Have a feeling this may do better internationally & on DVD simply for the absence of hype and even more so if it gets an oscar nod for adapted screenplay come March. Thought provoking & interesting realistic-style storyline that will for sure have you talking about the show afterwards. Definitely worth the $$ at the show or at home. Well done Ben!

Fantastic, fabulous, exquisite... deals with a lot of the hard issues that society needs to see sometimes. Broke my heart and was a great discussion piece... you can debate the rights and wrongs of this movie, and it'll make you reflect on your own views... what would you do. Full of suspense and you can get really confused if you dont pay attention to the film. If you like intelligent movies, this is the one for you. If you dont want to think or you dont want to deal with societal issues, and prefer mind-numbing entertainment... you won't like it. Actors were superb, especially the mom of the kidnapped kid... and Ben Affleck is a great director.

Fundamentally flawed and unsatisfying production. Dark to the point of tedium. Impossible plot components. My lowest grade for a movie so far. For me this would not be a rental if I knew about it in advance.

Excellent movie, Affleck did an impressive job of directing. If you liked Eastwood's "Mystic River" you'll like this one alot also. Of course, [people] who loved transformers and Saw IV (LOL) probably don't have the attention span for this kind of movie.

What can you say about a movie that's practically perfect! The storyline was superb and kept you guessing until the end. The acting, especially Ed Harris and Casey Affleck, was fantastic. Ben Affleck's directing is the real star of the movie. It's perfect. Every closeup is not too close, every emotion is just right, every sentence is brought about with the right amount of passion and pain. We walked out of the theatre and everyone was discussing what they would do in the same situation... it brought about intelligent discussion and was thought-provoking. Everything a movie should be...

This movie is one of the worst I've seen. I left before it was over. Heard the end had a little twist but not worth sitting thru. If you don't like offensive language don't go. Probably not more than 5 to 10 seconds between the "F" words. In fact there was so much you could hardly understand the dialogue. I just got tired of it. I can overlook some language but this was way over the top and not required to get the point across. To me it showed a lack of good writing.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Nothing is as simple as it seems in Ben Affleck's directorial debut. That's the biggest appeal of this movie: the plot---detectives hired to find a missing child, but end up getting more than they bargain for; the characters---human beings with equally human motives, not drawn like black and white cardboard characters; and an ending that you didn't see coming.

Very captivating that by the end gets you thinking about more than the movie but about social issues like child protective services. Casey Affleck's performance as a young private detective is believable. The storyline does evolve into something that is a little over top but nonetheless it is worth paying ten bucks to see it.

The story and its challenging message are profound, complex and riddled with twists and turns. There is no black or white here - no all-good or all-bad to get wrapped up with a nice neat bow. There is layer upon layer of intrigue, mystery and tragic paradox. This movie is extremely well done. Affleck's use of sound and silence are quite striking and deserving of an Oscar nomination, along with his direction and screenplay. I'll be very surprised if the film doesn't get several Oscar nods and some wins. My biggest criticism was the Hollywood youthful good looks of the detective couple set against the backdrop of what society judges as ugly and crass. Yes, they are the archetypes of our best intentions struggling to find their way through the darkness of human desperation and misery -- I get it. But I thought the contrasting stereotyped attractiveness of the couple was overkill, distracting and an unnecessary cop-out. I found it surprisingly refreshing to see real people in real bodies on the screen, rather than the usual "beautiful people" and well defined images. After some courageous choices that broke away from the usual, it's too bad Affleck couldn't quite leave the stereotypes behind. Still a must-see film!
