Boring. Pointless. Slow. Depressing. All around awful movie.

Like most ensemble pieces, I always found it difficult to know the characters and where the films are going in the first 30 minutes. Luckily the next 30, you get to know them and understand them... The ancient city of Paris is going through changes, with new faces, old faces and faces in transits... As with changes, something’s gotta give. Will this ancient city survive its classic virtue?.. The ending is particularly effective. Romain Duris is finally getting his heart-transplant. As he takes the taxi to the hospital, we are treated to a tour of the city. Now, he is pessimistic about the operation, but he smiles at the sight of the city’s famous landmarks. Pure poetry!

With a track record of films like “Chacun cherche son chat” to “L'Auberge Espagnole ” to “Russian Dolls”, Cédric Klapisch has become the French Robert Altman. They both specialize and excel in telling a multi-layered stories in one film. The difference might be Altman is more French than Cedric is more American. Altman tends to portray his characters as unlikable and ugly whereas Cedric makes his characters likeable but imperfect. Another difference is Altman is dead and Cedric is still very alive and kicking... Vivre la France!

I was delighted when I heard that Paris was coming to the theaters here since I had seen it in Europe and I was desperate to see it again. It is typical Cedric Klapisch - Romain Duris as the main character is a pretty good sign - but if you're familiar with him you'll definitely love it and for newcomers well Paris would also be great. I feel a particular relationship to this movie since I have lived in Paris and it does bring out some nice memories of the city, and I guess it makes the whole experience more personal. Even if you've never been this will allow you to see the city in a beautiful way, and props to Klapisch for that - his love of the city is definitely transferred onto the screen. Beautiful and sad.
