Not a feel good movie but a great one none the less. Great acting... it's hard to believe they are such good friends in real life!

I thought this was going to be a movie based on the slow degeneration of a couple's relationship through bad choices and different lifestyle ideals/values/desires. Instead, the movie begins with the degeneration and never seems to find a point to make. It was both depressing and boring all at the same time, which hits a new low for me.

I was waiting to see this movie from the first time I saw the trailer. I was completely captivated; it was so powerful and still brings me to tears every time I watch it. Having said that, I had very high expectations for this movie and left the theater disappointed. The acting was phenomenal, there was so much chemistry between Kate and Leo, but as for the plot and storyline... it just felt incomplete. In my opinion the trailer, which I am still in love with, outshines the film.

Wow... that's all I can say about this well-acted, thought-provoking movie. The characters seemed incredibly believable, maybe because we're the same age as the main characters and both trying to make a dream happen. Maybe it's because we're stuck in a city that we can't stand and need change and have the guts to follow through. I think there are so many messages in this movie that the average person will not see... and those people are the ones that call Revolutionary Road "unbelievably boring and contrived." They just don't get it. Both Winslet and DiCaprio did a phenomenal job - and the script was amazing.

This movie is definitely not for everyone. I thought it was a very realistic depiction of the 50s (Men are the bread winners who don't raise the children/the women don't work and stay home to raise the kids) I'm so happy I didn't live in that time period. The whole movie felt very repressive and conformative. The couple seemed to be living out the ideals that their parents drilled into them growing up - get married-buy a house-have children - those were supposed to be what makes you happy. When they realize these ideals are a complete lie and that path is not making them happy - they want to change but don't know how - thus they become trapped and take their frustration out on each other. This movie is also about the couples complete inability to listen and communicate with each other. An absolutely depressing view on marriage and having children - but it happened in a lot of cases back then and it is still happening today. This movie definitely stresses the importance of valuing what is important to you, to live for yourself (not always for others) - but also to share the same ideals as your spouse/partner and only have children if you really want them (not as a duty to false ideals) Superbly acted.

The script is unbelievably boring and contrived. Not interesting. Kate Winslet is an overrated actress at best. Rent it, but only if you are a devoted Di Caprio fan.

An excellent production that's success hinges solely on two things. The performances and on whether the parts their playing are compelling and interesting to you. I think by and large that's why this movie has met with such split reactions from critics and audiences. If someone doesn't understand the motivations of the lead characters, their frustrations, their deep rooted misery, and why they are in the state they're in, and then care that they are in that state, then the movie fails. But when you strip a movie bare of everything except the story and the characters, then there is nothing else for the audience to become entranced with, and therefore it is more vulnerable to critique. In Revolutionary Road there is no doubt that the performances are fantastic. I have never been a DiCaprio fan, but there a couple scenes in this picture that almost had me sold on him, and there is no doubt his exclusion at the Academy Awards in favour of the ghastly overrated work of Richard Jenkins and Frank Langella was a terrible snub. And Winslet, well this woman is possibly the greatest actress to ever grace the screen so of course she's fantastic, energetic, and very articulate. The supporters are all very strong, in particular the sharp-tongued Michael Shannon. For me the story was mostly very successful, I had a few issues, and I felt DiCaprio's character was not as sympathetic as the movie needed him to me be. But overall I liked this film a lot, but didn't love it. Roger Deakins cinematography was boring, especially after a decade working with Joel & Ethan Coen, and doubly disappointing considering this is a Sam Mendes picture. And on the mention of the director, I wish that he had a more active role in this film, it seems like he was happy just to let the actors flush out the scenes and shoot it capably. He had a few instances where you could see flashes of his former brilliance, but for the most part he was an inactive participant. I understand the need to let the actors have control of this film, but consider Darren Aronofsky's work this year in The Wrestler which is also largely a performance vehicle, but he still manages to put his stamp on it and make some very bold directorial decisions. So anyway go see Revolutionary Road, and keep an open mind about it.

I appreciated the concept of this movie and the fact I can somewhat relate to it. It had the ingredients to be a wonderful film (great acting, situations I could relate too)but there was something missing from it. When it was (FINALLY) over it left me feeling nothing whatsoever, nothing for the characters and nothing for the movie in general. These are the reasons why I would not recommend this movie.

I thought this film was just swell, if not miscast. Both leads did a great job but Kate looked about 10 years older than her husband and Leo couldn't seem to step beyond his cliche. The supporting actors stole the show and I thought this was a great examination of married life.

While not simple entertainment this movie actually manages to put across a message important to each and every person in the audience. I don't recommend it to anyone who hasn't spent at least 5 years in a fulltime job else you just won't get it.

Very well played by the Titanic couple (Winslet-DiCaprio) Throughout, you feel a unnerving tension, never knowing exactly where the story will take you next. It's a great drama, one of the best out there these days. At the very least worth 8½.

I found the storyline of this movie to be quite disappointing. It really didn't have a profound message to give. I definitely thought I would have a stimulating and insightful time but I left the movie feeling confused because it didn't shed any new light on the subject matter and it all just seemed like endless series of arguments. The cinematography was bleak and uninteresting as well.

If you don't want to walk out of the theatre feeling depressed and traumatized, then you should avoid this movie. The ending was very gruesome and bloody. The rest of the movie was one pointless bickering that doesn't really say anything new and creative about the emptiness of suburban isolation.

Fantastic film if you adore the two leads, Kate and Leo. Michael Shannon was an unexpected scene stealer. Definitely emotional and intense. I recommend it to everyone over 15, except for pregnant women.

I was truly surprised at the intense chemistry that still prevailed between Cate and Leo even after all these years. Perhaps the movie tends to show darker sides of the plot but leaves the audience to think afterwards. Can the average American family drift away from the dream, even if it destroys what they always longed for?

First things first, Leonardo DiCaprio was robbed of an Oscar nomination for his incredible role in this great drama. How on earth the members of the academy found Brad Pitt's performance in Benjamin Button better than Leo's electric performance in Revolutionary Road is beyond me. That being said, this movie is good and worth seeing if you love a good drama packed with issues. Kate Winslet also delivers an incredible performance and totally deserves the awards she has won for this movie as well (although she was snubbed for an Oscar nomination for this movie) And another unbelievable and memorable performance found in this movie is Michael Shannon, who steals two scenes in this movie next to acting giants like Winslet, DiCaprio and Kathy Bates. That's no small feat! Sam Mendes has directed another fine drama, and he also should have been nominated for an Oscar, but I certainly do understand that the Best Director category was a very competitive one this year. The acting is top notch, but the pace and storyline progression is somewhat weaker than a lot of great dramas out there like Slumdog, The Reader, and Frost/Nixon. Even Benjamin Button had a more solid pacing, and it was over 30 minutes longer in length. So, Revolutionary Road is a good movie, a good drama that is worth seeing, mostly for the incredible performances in it.

This movie was very well done. It had believable and likable characters, a good plot (this is rare nowadays), excellent dialogue, a good score and amazing acting (kudos to Kate, but also to Michael Shannon who stole the show!) At the beginning, it felt like watching a Broadway piece, with a married couple bickering. Not very tempting you might think, well, it does get better. That's really all I have to say.

Probably the most negative movie I have ever sat through. The people were so grumpy at each other the whole movie. Save your money unless you want to feel crappy after wards. I gave it a 5 only because because Kate and Leonardo are both good actors.

Very good Movie... more like amazing and very captivating... everyone can easily fit their life in it and imagine how it is while seeing alternatives in a movie. Its very hard for people to actually believe that that is how most peoples life is especially in the 30s and 40s, and I guess this is the right crowd for the movie... the ones that are or went through this experience can really appreciate it. Amazing acting... Music went in Flawlessly!!! So intriguing I loved it... you just gotta like these kind of movies to like it... If your an action fan... this is not your movie to watch :)

The movie was very well done, the cinematography was beautiful. Love the story, the way they presented the routine of life and their anxious, all most crazy driven environment that they had to live in. Their costumed seemed a bit of for the 50's look they try to do.

This certainly a dark movie about the break down of a marriage. The performances are great but it is depressing to watch these two people bring out the worst in each other. Overall a good movie but it didn't wring any real emotion from me though.

This movie just isn't that great. It has some pretty good acting, and the theme is good, but it just doesn't put it all together, and then it ends. It's a movie about life choices, and the monotony of peer pressure and the paralysis of living too normally. Which is good, but unfortunately it didn't win the day. I think I don't like Sam Mendes as a director, because I didn't like American Beauty either.

Beautifully sad movie. Really plays out the line "how do you break free without breaking apart? " and you realize that just sometimes it takes more backbone to live up to your responsibilities than to your dreams...

I was expecting a little more from this movie than I got because of all the talk about it. I thought the acting was great and all, but I found it a little depressing. I am expecting my second baby and the movie was very dark and deep and not very uplifting. I'm going to a comedy next. I would wait for it to get on video actually, I should have gone to marley and me instead. I'm not saying it wasn't worth watching, just maybe to rent and not to pay the high movie prices.

*For Pregnant Women* Read this review This was one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. I felt that the misery and darkness was never ending. I know that the acting was excellent, but it's really not worth spending the 2 hours watching such a depressing movie just for the acting. I actually had to leave because I felt that my baby could pick up on the negative, dark energy and noise of the movie. Definitely not a movie for expecting mothers to see.

It was really obvious that the actors were acting which made it hard for me to identify with them. I found this movie slow and boring with annoying miscommunication between the spouses presented as yelling matches. Although some aspects were presented well, overall I would rather have seen something else.

This movie is a real masterpiece. I thank the makers. It's Hollywood at it's very best and it was a real relief to me that such good movies as this one are still being made. How this was not nominated for best picture, actor and actress, I'll never know. Way to go Sam...

First a question: What is the meaning of the intro sequence? Why is it there at all? The good: The acting is wonderful. It was really interesting to see DiCaprio and Winslet reunited once again and perform at their best. It's really a pleasure to see them work together. They make it look so easy. Artistically and technically the movie is just about perfect and I expected no less of a Sam Mendes movie. The not so good: I thought the movie was good until the halfway mark and then it started to go round and round in circles until the end. I feel there is an underlying theme and purpose to this movie but the problem is that what's at the surface (the incessant communication difficulties between husband and wife)is so prevalent and repetitive that it gets annoying and completely drowns the underlying meaning (the universal search for truth and significance) in a sea of bickering and general negativity. Seriously, nobody in this movie seems happy to live. Nobody is happy to have children (watch and listen carefully), in fact they are portrayed as being a nuisance most of the time. Is that really how people were in a typical American suburb in the 50's? Is that how young couples made love in those days? Yes, even the sex/love scenes are painful. :( The end is very predictable. I could see it coming after 60 minutes. I thought the mad mathematician was one of the most interesting characters in the whole movie but his blunt rudeness got to me after awhile. Ever since American Beauty, my #1 movie of all time, I've made it a point to go see any movie by Sam Mendes but I have to say that this one really pales in comparison. It's not bad per se but such great actors deserve better lines and a more believable and interesting scenario. See it anyway when it's cheap just for the joy of watching DiCaprio and Winslet.

I think the hype for this movie was way to high. After I actually watched the movie I was somewhat disappointed, and think I was expecting there to be more. I also did not like that the complete movie is depressing, without any type of hope of positive direction at all. I think they both did an outstanding job in the film, however the story line lacked in depth, in my opinion.

Solid acting - I think Leo deserved a nomination as well. Coming from someone who is in a happy marriage, this film is still very relevant; you don't need to be like the characters to sympathize with their plight.
