The message is interesting and worthwhile, but the story line is weak at times. Needs a re-write.

Very bad versus very good ratings... no middle ground on this one. I've just returned from this film and would like to include something. If you're an intellectual person, you'll enjoy and understand this film (mine's 124.) The less intellectual you are, the more likely your odds of finding this picture unlikeable. For movie buff types, perhaps you'll be able to dissect it's contents - but I wasn't able to predict the ending, which I thought was a clever way to end a film with such a monolithic topic. I thought the cast's performance was alright! Hollywood fills in the gaps, like any famous playwright would. Really glad I went out and saw it. A fictional take on very real events. Thank you.

It was a good movie. I especially liked it when the guy did that thing, and the girl did her thing. It was very nice.

This is a good movie to see if you follow what is going on in the world at this time. Very realistic behind the scenes information... is this a message in the form of fiction? Don't bother going to this movie if you are incapable of actually thinking.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Agree with most reviews here that the movie is not good. Too bad with a cast of Owen, Watts and Stahl, that the plot was so weak. A couple good parts of the movie were the locations in Europe and the shoot out in the museum. The 5 minutes of non stop actions were awesome.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Just a little less plot and a little more character development would have been ideal -- especially in the build up to the denoument between Clive Owen and Armin Muehler Stahl. The shoot-out in the Guggenheim is harrowing and the chemistry between Naomi Watts and Owen fulsome enough. But the entire package somehow disappoints: the corporate personality type is psychopathic. This is news? As we watch the beginning of the collapse of capitalism as we know it that will occur with Pluto in Capricorn over the next decade or so, it will be interesting to watch the collective unconscious surface such tales of malevolent greed and corruption. And they are not far fetched. Just look at the spread between what your bank pays on your savings and what you pay on credit card debt.

I'm giving this movie a 10 although realistically it should be an 8 just because of all the negative ratings from the brain-dead. This is a really good movie for the intelligent thinking person, not for those looking for non-stop fake Hollywood action although there was one long shoot-out scene that went on much too long and which was pretty unrealistic. In light of what is happening on the planet regarding the corruption in the banking industry and the wars in the middle east that are are about power and control just like what is portrayed in the movie, I thought it was a believable realistic movie, almost like it was made as fiction to try to get a message out about what is really happening. As for many of the negative ratings from the 26-35 year crowd, my advice is this: stick with the Batman/Robocop movies and don't bother going to a movie where you might actually have to use your brain.

I heard from my girlfriend that she wanted to see this movie I part because it was a thriller with an actual plot with believable relevance to the real world, and because some of the younger reviewers thought it was dull because it lacked the level of gun play they expect in almost all movies today. That was good enough for me because we all know that so many younger movie goers are brain dead violent video-game nerds who couldn't defend their life in a real life violent encounter if... well, their life depended on it. Lots of puffery, little substance. But that was not one of the shortcomings of this film. It actually had some fairly decent dialogue, and a few snappy insightful lines, and a story premise that didn't entirely rely on a bad guy / good guy polarity which so distinguish today's comic book action movies feeding premature North American movie going audiences. This is not a "spectacular" movie, but it is a pretty decent one that's at least worth the price of admission.

As mentioned earlier, a kind of a slow starter but it really does pick up and, again, as mentioned earlier, you have to pay attention throughout the movie and for those who don't find the movie entertaining the Gallery scene, IMHO, should more than make up for "whatever you don't like the movie earlier on" Owen and Watts are a cracking team :)

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I thought that this movie was lacking in plot development and character development. I like both Naomi Watts and Clive Owen (so hot!) but I was not impressed with their acting this time around. The only good part of the movie was the extensive shoot 'em up scene at the art gallery. That was about the most exciting part of the movie.

All right movie the end I say could've been much better I mean come on this isn't a t.v. show or a grade 9 video project for social sciences class your grown [...] men if your going to finish the film finish it in a big shooting or really nail biting scene where there trying do something and it's not happening until the last second when something spectacular happens where the heroes fix the problem and it doesn't it end at a happy note but it ends in that scene like a fade scene, but the move was good.

The only way I can understand people calling this movie "boring" is if they were expecting a nonstop "shoot-em up action" film with helicopters crashing down every 5 minutes. My husband and I really, really enjoyed this movie and were at the edge of out seats from beginning to end. I suggest you not let the "robocop" enthusiasts deter you from seeing this movie.

I also like Clive Owen but nothing about his performance was inspiring. The whole 'bring down the evil big company' has been done to death (substitute international banking for oil/pharmaceutical/tobacco/Walmart, etc) I'd say this is a OK movie if you don't want to think and just enjoy another decent suspense about good guys vs. bad guys.

It was a fantastic movie. I give it a 10/10. Clive Owen does a fantastic job and Niomi Watts also does just I find it missed a little bit of romance between Clive and Niomi, other then that I loved it I would recomend this movie.

I am fascinated by the divergence of views of this movie. I don't think there is an absolute value for any film but for me it was a very good movie. I didn't go because I expected anything; I went because articulate reviews in this forum both damned and praised the piece. I couldn't resist testing the waters. By the way if you want to see Owen's finest performance see Children of Men.

Normally I'm not so harsh, but this movie was terrible. The acting - horrible; the plot - atroscious; and don't get me started on the sound track. I laughed through much of this movie, loud and hard. It's like everyone involved in the movie were trying to make it a really heartfelt thinker/thriller, which it definitely wasn't. Clive Owen should attempt smiling, it might help his acting. The other girl in the movie should just consider not acting anymore.

Excellent international political thriller. Seemed complicated at the beginning but the pieces come together and all makes sense at the end. Very well written (I especially liked the interrogation scene) and beautifully shot. I don't know why this movie hasn't done better at this point - perhaps it didn't get enough theaters.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I like Clive Owen so when I say I hated him in this movie that does mean he really did a bad job, the story is really not that confusing more like just boring. At no point in this movie was I ever cheering for the good guys or even care if they got the bad ones. And don't get me started on the ending. I give it a vote for best cop out ending of the year. Nothing is resolved, the do I go bad or stay good the main character is fighting thoughout the whole movie is not done anything with. Sorry just a very long not well done film.

As a Clive Owen fan, he can do no wrong, except for King Arthur. The movie was smart and thought provoking; perhaps too much so for your typical North American audience. Not a great movie but good for an evening out.

I did not find this movie too original; it is a type of story that was told a thousand times already and, quite often, in much better ways. The acting was not bad but they didn't have much to work with. I would recommend it as a DVD rental, when there's nothing else on TV.

The International is a wonderfully intellectual film with a strong political message. It is not an action film although some scenes are pretty exiting. Calling it an "action thriller" is like calling "Romeo and Juliet", with a few artistically fine and essential sex scenes, a porn film. People who are looking for a "Bruce Willis" style action film should just stay away. I rate this film excellent. It is visually stunning and succeeds in bringing a critical political issue, the fascist aspirations of the world of international banking, into the light in an artful way.

Clive Owen was lackluster, Naomi Watts was acting like she thought she was on Law and Order; beautiful cinematography, a few awesomely graphic sound effects. The story is not at all hard to follow if you are a film buff, at times the plot seemed all too obvious. A few good moments undermined by a letdown of an ending. People who are into conspiracies and pulp fiction suspense novels would like it.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I am really surprised this movie didn't get more positive reviews here. Then again, maybe the crowd is just waiting to see the next Crank movie (shudder) I agree with those who say that most North American audiences don't seem to grasp a taut, well-made European political thriller. They just expect action/violence per millisecond. This movie was truly brilliant on so many levels... the first film in a long time where I actually wanted to race home to write down a quote from the movie, such as "A man sometimes finds his destiny on the path he took to avoid it". Yes boys and girls, the dialogue and writing was that good, very atypical for an action-thriller. The shootout scene that took place at the Guggenheim was phenonemal, well-choreographed but never veered from gritty realism and the brutality of the situation. It was the small moments you had to look for, like when the hitman Clive Owen was chasing down suddenly is forced to become his ally, and he asks "are you okay? " when Owen's ear is nearly shot off... the look on Owen's face is priceless. And the cellphone ringtone that goes off in between shots fired while the museum patrons are cowering in fear is great black comedy. I'm so glad I didn't base my decision to see this film on the dismal reviews here. I would've missed out on a great thriller for our time. I am now officially looking out for any and all Tom Tykwer movies.
