"Jedem Das Seine", or "To each man what he deserves" as the sign read on the workplace wall, symbolizes an important moral question which is faced by this movie. Do the oppressors and the oppressed really get what they deserve? Faced with impossible moral dilemmas, such as to whether it is nobler to die today for a cause or to live until tomorrow to struggle (in perhaps a relatively insignificant way) against oppression, each man in this movie attempts to resolve in a different way. Or, is it better to give up a fellow prisoner to save oneself or some other prisoner? Fortunately, the movie focuses on some of the best treated concentration camp prisoners which saves the viewer from seeing much of the worst brutality which existed in those situations. In german with english subtitles, it is well worth the effort.

Excellent movie. Beautifully complex and interesting. I went and saw 'Smart People' just before this and that was a waste of time and money. I'm glad that I went and saw 'The Counterfeiters' after.

This movie is fast paced, quickly moving along in a storyline fashion. It was comprehensive, poignant and highly emotional right to the end. Knowing that it is a true story made it all the more interesting. It was fascinating to watch the counterfeiters try to perfect the dollar and the pound. The side story about the prisoner who felt it wrong to be enjoying beds/food/bath while others were starving to death or worse, being gassed, added to the tension already felt by those who were just trying to survive. No matter how many times I see movies about the holocaust I am not any less shocked than the time before. This movie not only reminds us of the horror of the concentration camps but worse, it demonstrates the inhumanity of the guards. The realism is this movie is remarkable. The Germans sure do go the distance when it comes to detail in their movies.

Truly, one of the better movies of our time. Excellent acting. Anticlimactic. Non holywoody. Best of all - a true story - which is simply amazing. Even a "scum of a person" can become a saint under some circumstance.

Too long. More and better editing would have made a huge difference.

It's hard to imagine how this story could be done any better. Brooding menace throughout. Riveting. Depressing theme, but worth seeing nonetheless. Both my sister and I thought it was excellent.

Well done German film. A great history lesson although a sad reminder of the Nazi brutality. The performance of the lead actor is worth it.
