I should start by pointing out that I am not in the target audience for this movie. I'm older than most people who would be in the audience (and I'm a guy) I also don't care for dancing. I can only really appreciate when it's off-the-hook amazing. So that said, I loved this movie! The first Step Up was very weak, acting poor, dancing mediocre, plot was drivel. The second one seems to be what they wanted to do but couldn't because of lack of budget. Way better dancing, way less cheesy, much more exciting, and I wish I was a teenager so that I could be immersed in this culture because it is damn cool. My wife loved the movie too, and she likened the style to what Michael Jackson was doing over 20 years ago and this is a culmination, or a grandchild of sorts. I totally agree because there's old school in this movie, there's break dancing, popping, a little krunk and overall top notch moves that are not dated. Beats the lame ballet jazz of the first one! The characters were much better, though the script was still weak (but let's face it, you go to a movie like this for the dancing not the life-changing storyline) The trailer did not do this movie justice, which was a pleasant surprise. Sure, there are plenty of ridiculous scenarios, but the pace of the film is good and they just did a great job on it!
