Making the best out of a difficult situation. A movie you can go and watch with the kids. It doesn't matter what life deals you, it matters how you deal with what comes your way.

A refreshing movie... heartwarming; encouraging; filled with HOPE, love, acceptance, healing and a sense of what is best for a troubled world. PLEASE KEEP IT IN SAINT JOHN and show it again and again. Advertise it far and wide and often.

This might not get the attention that Juno does, but it still is a very good movie worth seeing. Refreshing not to have all the bad language. Great ending!

Bella tackles the issue of abortion without taking sides, without being "judgemental," and without even mentioning the "A" word. Tammy Blanchard portrays the terror of an unplanned pregnancy in a captivating and meaningful manner. Truly, it brings the viewer face to face with the question of what is the value of human life. If you are only interested in flashy tinsel town special effects you probably will not like it. If you are looking for a movie with deep meaning and relevence, go see "bella."

A down to earth movie that moves the heart. This is a story which brings together so many morals which are too often forgotten in Canada's (and North America's) society today."Bella" brings "beautiful" back its meaning.

The screenwriters take a number of potentially argumentative topics, give lip service to both the negative and positive aspects of each, add a laconic score and send the audience home with a feeling that all is truly well with the world. Played almost entirely in flashback, the film's topics are relevant and the performances are fine. However the large holes in the plot ensure that this film will not stand up to repeat viewing.

Wonderful movie... just go and see it, you won't regret it. Definitely beats out many of those stupid Hollywood blockbusters. The acting was superb, and it just shows that you don't need alot of big names stars to make a good movie.

I really enjoyed this movie, took me by surprise... love the cultural aspect and how we look at circumstances differently. The family strength and connection was beautiful and the friendship between the 2 main characters was a wonderful gift.

Painfully slow and predictable. I suspect it was backed by the Christian right. Don't waste your time or your money. The worst movie I've seen in a long time.

An example that Hollywood can be saved. Eduardo Verstegui demostrate that when there is talent you dont need to exploit the bad side of the men.

It's a "pro-life" movie? No... not just this... it's a movie where the desire of life is reborning. It's more then worthy to see it.

There are so many intertwined stories here about love, food, culture, chance, regrets, family, friendship, ambition, and loss. I was hearten and gratified to see a film with out of the ordinary characters (the kind of people you find yourself listening to in a public place, who leave you wondering about their lives) I have to see it again.

The script is excellent. Hollywood has crappy scripts; this movie proves that. Bravo to the actor Eduardo and Blanchard, excellent job.

Very touching... I did not want it to end. It was unbelievable how much it moved me. The story line would speak to so many women (and men) who have, perhaps out of fear, made such a horrible decision to abort an innocent life. I like the way they presented Jose as the wonderful gift of adoption. Excellent work by the director/writer and the actors!!! It is sooo nice to see a movie without any cursing, blood, sex and violence for a change. It would truly be nice to see more of the same. Maria Costanza Maynard Mississauga, Ontario Canada.

Bella is very sentimental -- and satisfying for it -- falling just short of melodrama. Its earnestness is beguiling and embodied in Tammy Blanchard as Nina. She is the emotional centre of the film and ably supported by brooding Eduardo Verástegui. The family themes are delightful, especially emphasis on cooking and loving support. Even dastardly adopted brother Manny is cajoled into accepting that his love for his brother transcends any rift. Bella's plot is contrived and yet, if one has suffered tragedy in life and seen it balanced through a loving gift that transcends pain, one can accept the heavy handed treatment of redemption. Bella is a morality tale. It could have been a great movie if the sentiment had been subtler. As it stands, it is as heartwarming as a cuddle on a beach can be. Friendship can redeem passion, and start life anew. Director Alejandro Gomez Monteverde overplays this in the last scene, but it is still gratifying, and a comforting message for those who suffer yet hope.

Excellent movie! It is a simple story about normal people’s life, facing real life situations. It shows the importance of family, prayer, love and respect for life and make you think about what is really important.

A wonderful movie that depicts the importance of a loving family to offer support during times of successes and failures. Great acting; the ending was a little abrupt, but causes you to think and use your imagination.

13 April 2008 Sunday morning I'm still feeling changed by the film Bella, the next day. Deeply moving, I remain in this impression that whoever's hands molded this story, they seem to have some knowledge about how Story goes into the human heart -- with such care, and respect. Even healing. Potentially. For me this film was a humble, noble effort, full of honour. The flocks and flocks of geese that flew overhead this morning, returning at last, reminded me again -- with their strange honking cries and flappings -- all our cries below, captured and scattered out. A good storyteller can do that. Many thanks to all behind Bella.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I was so disappointed in this movie, espcially considering that it was voted People's Choice at the film festival. I found it both trite and depressing. Furthermore, the ending scene was so badly executed (the prominent sign," no dogs allowed on the beach"!? Was what stood out the most. To me, the themes did not exemplify the values of family as at least one reviewer commented. Instead, the movie was an exploration of people who quit and give up, wallowing in the past rather than awakening to the possibiliies in the present--not that movie's need to be didactic or offer a message of course but perhaps they need to offer at least some hope. I did not find the main characters even remotely interesting or convincing. The best acting was evidenced in the supporting roles. There were a few nice moments and scenes but my favourite song from the movie's trailer was cut from the actual movie. It was truly a waste of our time and I wish I had not seen it. The trailer is the best part of it but it definitely does not live up to its promise.
