Sweet and thoughtfull, following the path of Orlando, The Scent of The Green Papaya and Forrest Gump. The materialization of a nation's historic period, real or virtual, trought its characters does hit the spot. Plus the beauty of VietNam's passages, local and ameresian beauties makes this film a jewel. I watched it on video but defenetly it's a theater-must-see.

A very sweet, sad, heartbreaking but sometimes slow-moving. Harvey Keitel lacked any personality. (I still think of him as in "The Piano"....) The singing girl was very sweet and the little sales boy with the missing box was the heartbreaking part. The point of the impact of intrusions and colonization into their culture was missing. It assumed that we had all had history lessons and so I felt cheated. But overall the vignettes made their point and I left the theatre feeling rather sad for the lost Vietnamese culture.

It is confusing...for those good at parallel thinking! It's all about discovering life. Never stop learning, regardless how old you are. It's about seeing beyond. It's about reading between the lines. It's about knowing where you belong in life. It gives a Walt Disney feel. The movie itself is not ground-breaking. Nice sceneries... a few metaphors here and there... Nice if you like nice moments. ^_^
