The first review...

This is a hard hitting drama about struggle of displaced Israeli immigrants in NYC. Everything is there - the hardship of foreigners trying to make it in the promised land, the wayward father forced to face his past, the sense and confusion of war, the love-hate congregation for the mother land, the retired woman army officer turned barmaid plus single mother, love lost and lost found, etc... In addition, the Hebrew dialogue and the haunting singing are refreshing. But somehow something is not there. Perhaps the main character Moshe is such a hard edge, unsympathetic bustard is hard to believe he’d go soft... other than for the sake of making the redemption story arc works. You want to root for Moshe and yet you don’t.
