A distinguished lawyer nearing the end of his career (Charles Laughton) takes on one last case, and it proves to be tough. A wealthy widow has been murdered, and the wife (Marlene Dietrich) of the accused (Tyrone Power) may hold the key to solving the crime, especially when she agrees to testify not in her husband's defense, but for the prosecution.
