Clearly made for the stage, its theatrical form is respected in the movie. The dialogs are intelligent, fast and witty. The tragedy underneath the comedy is humorous but dramatic, There is no hope for the characters, most of them lovable but self destructing. A TV repairman plays a mirror of the spectator. A Bergmanesque camera and emotional tension. The tragedy reamins near but somehow unexplained, dramatic tension beautifully achieved. Bujold in a short but unforgettable role. In summary, dramatic, intelligent, a must.

My favourite type of movie - driven by great dialogue and a superb mix of characters. I loved it. Canadian movies are the best!

My favourite character is Eli and Ted Levine's portrayal of the younger brother is really wonderful!
