I saw this movie long time ago. All the characters are absolutely well played, they are unconventional, funny, and with a life philosophy from which we can learn a lot. To add, there is some scenes really surrealist (like life is sometimes) that make you laugh to death.

One reason why the Coen brothers' movies are worth seeing again and again is because you find subtexts and hidden meaning every time. It is very much the case with Lebowski, as well as with "O brother" only there having used inspiration in Homer's The Odyssey it is natural and expected to look for and find hidden layers. In Big Labowskt, it is entirely the Coen mythology, it is so refershing to feel that the actors are so much on the same page with the authors, almost like they all just get together and have fun and goof off and don't even care if every joke gets through to the audience.

I saw the movie The Big Country (1959) featuring Gregory Peck and it seems to parallel The Big Lebowski in a strange kind of way. Gregory Peck is a winner, yet everyone around him is trying to tell him what to do or how to think. Some white trash cowboys start calling him The Dude, and from then on he is the Dude. Mr. Lebowski, who wants to be called The Dude, is a loser where everyone is trying to tell him what to do or think, yet he manages to work his way through a crazy world. But nobody ever calls him Dude. I liked both movies, and I really enjoyed The Big Country when I made the link with The Big Lebowski. The movie has Charleston Heston as a mean ranch foreman and Berl Ives as the head of a bad ass white trash clan. I can't help but think that the Coen brothers were influenced by The Big Country.

A brilliant Film. Appears slow to get going but stick with it and you will be rewarded. Real simple comedy wrapped around believable characters and a realistic story. Portrayed by formidable actors, this is a hallmark production of which I shall never become tired.

A film of great importance. Appears confused and pointless to a first or superficial viewing, but is anything but. The plot DOES make sense. Take the trouble to figure it out. Watching it makes me immeasurably happy. No other film like it for me.

My favorite movie ever. I've never seen anything this funny, and doubt I ever will. No matter how many times I see it, its still hilarious. You should definitely rent it. Or skip renting it and just buy it. It's defitely worth the 10-20 bucks you'll spend. GREAT.

Greatest movie ever. The Dude has a great performance, but Walter steals the show. Have watched it over 30 times and I still love it. John Tuturro has a great role as well. Must see for anyone who loves a stupid yet funny movie.

The Big Lebowski is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Another bull's eye for the Coen brothers. Right up there with Barton Fink, Fargo and Raising Arizona.

Another great film from the Joel and Ethan Coen. A film of mistaken identity. Great laughs. Great lines. Check it out.
