User's review

At first it was my temptation to believe "Barry Lyndon" was Stanley Kubrick's censure of worldly ambition in the person of an absolutely egocentric character, something like Jack Torrance of "The Shining". Suddenly the fate of their baby Brian and Lady Lyndon's undaunted humanity and love for Barry, even after his cruelty and deception, show the real villainy concentrated and symbolized in Barry's stepson, the aristocratic monster Lord Bullington, for whom Barry is too much of a commoner to enter the privileged sector of society. This reminded me of "Eyes Wide Shut" and the threat of "dire consequences" for Dr. Bill Harford when he tried to encroach on the fabulous party of the social elite (who incited his discontent with his wonderful marriage)
