Not a great movie. I saw it because it co-starred an actor of whose work I'm a particular fan (Nicholas Lea - Tom McLaren), but I was expecting much better than I got in light of its budget and hype. Lea turned in a fabulous performance, as did the gentleman who played Montgomery Clift, but for the most part the acting was lukewarm. Bill Paxton, who is quite credible in good-guy roles, is paper-thin as the villain, and Chris O'Donnell is just painful as the emotional infant who wants to play with the big boys to assauge his own guilt. The story was riddled with inaccuracies, and while I think we're all happy to suspend disbelief for the sake of a good story, it would have taken nothing from the story and only minimal effort to get them right. The fact that they didn't tells me that the director just didn't care. Robin Tunney can do better, but I will say that she did a good job of showing her character's emotional growth through the movie, which is more than can be said of O'Donnell. I rather liked the action sequences, and the suspense factor was very well-done, but I agree with whoever said that the film suffered from too many plots and not enough development of any of them. Ultimately, three people die unnecessarily in order to save one, and it's hard to see that in a good light when the whole thing was entered into with such irresponsible tantrums by O'Donnell's character. Had his character been a little older, a little wiser, and a little more stable, it would be possible to see that as heroic, but instead it just seems like a horrible waste. The movie is worth a viewing - preferably on the big screen for full visual effect - but it has radical flaws.

"An avalanche of FX" said the French press... A fair action movie, you need oxygen at the end! A little implausible too, "if something can go wrong, so it does" - but I'm not a climber and I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. Ouf.

Serves its purpose as an entertaining, thriller type film. Thought Robin Tunney character was flat and not convincing as a climber. Bill Paxton had the best acting role with a little "evil Bill" I liked his survival program and idea of gutting Nicholas Lea to mark their position. It's easy to find fault everywhere and of course it is outrageously impossible plots (like getting nitro from the Pakistans) etc. However a movie doesn't have to be technically perfect to be enjoyed, most films are way exaggerated. Bottom line it's definitly worth a look and I did find myself on the edge of my seat much of the time. It delivers.

Very impressive movie, excellent special effect. Some guys gave too low marks, which almost made me not to see it, and which would definitely be a mistake. [...] Go aheard and thrill!

I thought it was a great film that kept you in your seat wanting more in each scene. The suspense & scenery combined with a great story makes this a must see. Great dollar & entertainment value.
