Dying Midwestern tells the story of Jim Lessin, a fledgling politician in a small town under the control of an uncontested political family known as The Boulder Clan. During a brush with death, Jim experiences a vision in which a mysterious figure convinces him that it is his destiny to save the town by defeating the corrupt incumbents in an upcoming election for Mayor. Determined and desperate to succeed, Jim turns to the help of an inner-city criminal with a grudge, for "campaign financing." But complications arise with the criminal's personal agenda and the involvement of his partner: an in-debt gambler trying to go clean.
